Chapter 46
“Ezra, where in the hell did you get those cookies?” I closed my eyes as I already knew the answer. It was right there in front of our faces this whole time.
“She said she loves to bake, but only for the people that she loves. I thought she was just trying to show me how much she cared about me.”
Ezra sat there staring at Tate completely stunned like the rest of us.
“How long have you been eating them?”
“A couple of weeks, maybe a month. I was starting to get sick of them, but I was trying to be nice. So, I gave the ones she sent home with me to Tate. I figured what she didn’t know wouldn’t hurt her.”
“Let me get this straight, a witch has been baking you cookies for a month. She told you that they were only for you, and you ate them.” I glared at him from across the table.
“Well, yeah, but she wasn’t just any witch, she was Jacie. I’ve been with her since I got to Moonlight. I trusted her, we all did.”
“Aunt Violet, we need you.” I yelled to her, and she gave me a curious look.
“What’s wrong, baby girl?”
“Your son is an idiot. His girlfriend has been feeding him spelled cookies for the last month. To top it off, he gave them to Tate this morning.”
“What do you mean? Why would she spell him? How do you feel, Ezra?”
“I haven’t really noticed anything. When we first left school, I missed her. I didn’t want to leave her, but she was going to come visit me. I noticed yesterday that I was kind of relieved to be away from her. I need some space to breathe.”
Aunt Violet nodded and crossed her arms, “Do any of you have any idea why she would need to put a love spell on Ezra? If you have been dating this whole time, what changed? Something had to happen to where she felt the need to use a love spell.”
“I don’t know,” I shook my head. “I’ve been so busy with my mates. I didn’t see her much. When I did, she was always with you guys.”
“What were you thinking, Ezra? Haven’t I taught you anything? I am a witch, and I can confirm that witches are the most manipulating supernatural there is. You know better than to eat or drink anything that a witch gives you if she tells you not to share it.
“Yeah, they are manipulative, like when they sneak into your dreams and don’t tell you that they are real and your mate. They would rather let you think your crazy.” My Uncle Gavin yelled.
We all started laughing, “My Aunt Violet used her telepathy magic to visit my uncle in his dreams for years before they met in person.”
“Ezra Gavin Green, this is serious.” Aunt Violet shot my uncle a look before turning back to face Ezra. She’s even having a hard time holding back her smile.
“What is it with cookies? Oh my goddess, the vampires. They said the girls that locked them up refused to give them blood, but she gave them a cookie.” I looked around at the boys and I could tell that they were thinking the same thing.
“Why would Jacie want to hurt me or Dawson? We weren’t super close roommates, but we were friends.”
Ryker shook his head, “She’s been there the whole time, she knew everything. We just got used to her being there, and we trusted her.” He closed his eyes and ran his hand through his hair.
“The investigation into Creed, everything Bella.” Ryker shook his head. “We never thought about not talking about it in front of her.
“That means she’s probably the one that spelled Rowen and set Creed up that night.”
“Oh my goddess, how did we miss this? She was doing everything right under our noses. She does know everything, including everything about my magic.”
“So what I’m hearing is she placed a love spell on Ezra to keep herself in your circle, so she could get to Bella.”
“That’s what It sounds like, but if she was just after me, why wouldn’t she just go after me while I was asleep? We were roommates, and I slept in my room most of the time. Well, when we first got there anyway.”
Aunt Violet gave me a look, “We’ll get to that lecture later. Let me go mix up the reversal potion. I can tell the spell on you is starting to wear off on its own, but the potion will help to get rid of it faster. Especially now that both of my boys are in love with her. I don’t think any of us want to sit here and watch Tater steal your girl. Zadie, come with me. You can help.”
Aunt Violet and Zadie left. The boys and I just sat there for a moment. “Why would she do this?” I finally asked.
“I don’t know,” Ryker and Drake both shook their heads. Ezra looks completely beside himself.
“Ezra, this isn’t your fault. We all trusted her. I had a feeling that something was wrong when you told me that you would reject your fated mate for her. I should have paid more attention. I knew something was wrong.”
Ezra slightly nodded his head but kept his eyes down, and just stared at the table.
“We’ll get through this the same way we always do, together.” Ryker put his hand on Ezra’s shoulder.
I have a feeling there’s more to the story, but Ezra’s not ready to say yet.
My dad and my Uncle Gavin came over to our table.
“Don’t worry boy, you’re not the first one in the family to only think with his dick and be used because of it.” Uncle Gavin laughed. “Mom can fix this one easily. The problem is figuring out why she did it, and how much of a threat she is.”
We all nodded, “I thought she liked me. She always wanted me to go to parties with her and even let me borrow her clothes to wear.”
“I should have known something was wrong with her. She never wanted to talk about her family or home life. When I asked her anything she would just generalize everything. She would never say my mom or dad, it was always my coven or just her. I just thought maybe she didn’t get along with her family, so I never pushed it.”
“She did the same thing with me, Ezra. I asked her about her coven once, but she just said it was like living in a pack. She never told me anything about her family.”
I looked up at my dad and Uncle, “wait a minute, my friend Reese said he could tell which coven the witch that spelled Rowen is from. I completely forgot to ask him before we left.”
I grabbed my phone and sent Reese a text. “Hey, I’m sorry to bother you, but you never told me which coven placed the spell on Rowen.”
My phone buzzed almost instantly, “hey beautiful, sorry about that. I couldn’t get a reading. The witch that spelled him doesn’t belong to a coven. She’s a lone witch.”
I read the message to everyone, “did Jacie tell anyone exactly which coven she was from?” Ryker asked.
We all shook our heads no. I sent another message to Reese, “How well do you know my roommate Jacie?”
“I’ve partied with her, but I don’t know her that well. She seems friendly and outgoing. I need to go to a meeting with my parents on Friday. I’ll be close to your pack. I can stop in if you want. I’d like to see you, and I can fill you in on everything with Rowen.”
“OK, that sounds good. Just let me know what time and I’ll be here.”
I filled everyone in on the messages and my dad scrunched his eyebrows, “Who are his parents? I bet their on the witches council and going to the same meeting we are.”
“Oh, I don’t know, but Jacie made a comment that the only witches that can tell which coven spells are from are the Priest, priestess, and their heirs.”
“OK, we can confirm that with Violet, but it sounds like your boy Reese is high up on the chain of command. I bet they are going to the same meeting we are, and I think you should come too. The boys were already planning on it. I’m starting to wonder if the link that we're missing has something to do with rank.”
“It’s possible,” I nodded.
Aunt Violet came back with the potions and gave Ezra his and then dropped Tate’s in his drink.
“It should be out of your system by tonight, and luckily Tate didn’t eat the whole box of cookies. I throw the rest away.”
Ezra didn’t say anything, but I can tell he’s deep in thought.
“Ezra, spill it. We all make mistakes, and like you three told me. You need to tell us everything, so we can figure it out.”
“I don’t think this one can be fixed.” He looked around at all of us. “I messed up bad, and I know why Jacie started using the spell. I just didn’t see it coming.”
“What happened?” Aunt Violet asked as she sat down at the table.
“I met my mate. I was going to break up with Jacie, but the next thing I know I rejected my mate.”
