Chapter 50

-Jianna-

I opted to stay in bed while James gathered some necessary supplies before heading out again. I wanted to come with him, but I just wanted some time alone with everything happening.

I recapped everything that had happened, and I still can't believe that after all this time, I had a past that was taken away from me. I hid underneath the bed's covers and tried to remember anything from my past. But it was all still a blank slate. I tried to push away the recurring memories that filled my mind. But the harder I tried, the more blurred it became.

I felt overwhelmed and disappointed. I was devastated because I wanted to remember anything; even a sliver of my past would be enough, but nothing. I am disappointed that I can't fully commit myself to James because of the fact that a vast amount of my memory is missing.

I knew James would wait, but what if it never returned? And I knew that it was selfish for me to hold him back.

Lost in thought, I heard a soft knock at the door as I lay there. I hesitated before calling out, "Who is it?"

"Ma'am, it's the front desk. I have a message for you." said the male voice on the other side of the door.

"Why didn't they just call me? Must be important." I thought.

Not thinking that it was anything weird, I opened the door. "I'm sorry I took..."

And then black.

When I woke up, I was no longer in the hotel room. My heart started racing as I tried to understand what was happening. My head was still in a fog when someone came into the room.

"Do you know how long we've been looking for you?" said the man.

My eyes were trying to adjust to the dim light in the room. I can only see a silhouette of a large man standing in front of me and another sitting in the corner of the room.

"Wh...Who are you?" I asked groggily.

"You don't remember?" asked the man in the chair. He had an accent I can't place.

*"Come può non ricordare nulla? Il dottore ha detto che a quest'ora dovrebbe aver riacquistato la memoria." * said the man in the chair to the man standing up.

My head ached, and I felt disoriented, but I could understand what he said.

"They're Italian. Good. At least it's a language I can actually understand." I thought.

The man standing up walked over to me and pulled out a chair, sitting in front of me.

"Your father has been looking for you." said the man.

"Father? What father? I don't have any family." I replied.

He snickered. "That's true. I suppose."

He sat down to go to my level and held my chin. "You have no idea how valuable you are." he continued.

I tried to pull away from his grasp, but his grip tightened. My heart was pounding in my chest, and my mind was racing with fear and confusion.

"What do you mean valuable? I don't understand." I said, trying to keep my voice steady.

"You may not remember it, but you were one of the most sought-after assassins in the underworld, and then that little Stronzo came along." he declared. "Your father will be here soon. He'll be able to tell you more."

"NO! WHAT YOU CAN DO IS LET ME THE FUCK GO!" I yelled. "JAMES! JAMES! HELP ME!"

"Yell all you want, *Rosso .*" he grinned. "No one knows where you are. No one can hear you."

I slumped to the floor, dejected, but I refused to cry. I looked at him, *"Faresti meglio a sperare che non esca da questa stanza perché ti ucciderò, cazzo"*

He looked back at me, his eyes wide but then hardened, and he glared at me. *"Non vedo l'ora." *Before injecting me with something.

Then everything turned black again.
