90. Getting The Truth Out!
Author's POV
"I am sorry, I didn't know that he was your husband"
Rowena apologized to Mira, she was in panic.
Mira chuckled.
"Relax! It's okay... I am not going to tell him anything."
Her team sighed in relief.
"You are so good, Mira... We love you."
Genie smiled.
Mira smiled and noticed Damon talking to Mariana. They were discussing something serious.
When they were done, Mira went to him and Damon smiled at her.
"Order me, wife!"
She blushed.
"How did you know that I am here to ask for something?"
He chuckled.
"You always order me around, what's new in this?"
Mira slapped his arm playfully.
"I don't! Can we go out for a walk and have some ice cream?"
Damon smiled at her.
"Why not? Let's go!"
She grinned and was about to turn when Mariana came towards Damon.
"Damon, I am so sorry to disturb you but can you check on this thing?... It's urgent."
Mira's stomach churned when it gave her Deja Vu of familiar events. She took a deep breath and tried to assure herself that Mariana isn't aware of their plan, she is not doing this on purpose.
She looked at Damon nervously, waiting for his reply.
"Later, Mariana... I am taking my wife for an ice cream date."
He replied casually.
Mariana raised her eyebrows amused and nudged Mira teasingly.
"Ohh, romantic night!... Sorry to interrupt you, you guys can carry on."
She chuckled and walked away from them.
Mira sighed in relief, realising she was overthinking. She knows that ice cream is a small thing and it doesn't matter if the plan gets cancelled but it's about priorities and importance, which one partner gives to another. It's respect to the wish.
Damon held her hand as they walked out of the building and got on the empty streets.
"This area is so calm even though it's an office building."
She looked around peacefully.
"Yeah, it's on the peaceful side of the city. Most of our properties are away from the crowded places..."
He answered while admiring her peaceful face.
Mira wrapped her hands around his arms and rested her head on his shoulder as they walked in peace.
"If I ever meet your mother, I'll tell her how good a man you are... Rare and real!... She should know that she has birthed a gem..."
Damon kissed her head.
"I hope she understands your words."
She frowned at the hidden sadness in his tone.
"I will make her understand..."
She smiled softly while pecking his lips.
Damon brought ice creams for themselves and she sat on the bench by the street.
"Rudra and you look quite close?"
He asked, trying to understand their bond.
She nodded.
"Yeah, he was always my safe place... My family is so pissed that I don't call him Bhai but Rudra. They always tell me to give him respect but he never believed in that... He loves my free spirit nature and always encourages me."
She was looking proud while telling him about Rudra.
"He says, his sisters are Durga and Tara. Mira is his brother!"
She laughed.
"We always had a fun childhood, scratching and pulling each other's hair. He taught me how to use guns and ride horses. He always treated me as a brother and protected me as a sister... He is still pissed that Dil didn't let him touch her..."
Damon looked at her with a smile when she was telling him everything so excitedly.
"But he is still powerless in front of an old man so he doesn't have the power of decision making in our house... Once he inherits my father then he will change things. I want him to rule."
Damon nodded in understanding.
"Don't you miss your father?"
"I do!"
She nodded.
"I am waiting for the day when he will wake up... I want him to tell me that I won... I didn't let him down... His Mira fought back and survived. He has to know."
Damon could see the pain behind her voice.
"He will be proud of you, fire... He will!"
She was in her own thoughts when she heard gunshots. Her ice cream fell from her hands when she realised that they were getting attacked.
Damon quickly hid her behind him and pulled out his gun to protect themselves.
"Mira, go and hide behind the bench... Go!"
He ordered.
She quickly hid behind the bench and saw Damon fighting alone. She noticed one man pointing a gun at Damon and he was distracted by other men.
"Damon!"
She screamed in panic when the man pulled the trigger. Damon looked at her when she stood in front of him to take the bullet.
"Mira?"
Damon frowned at her and quickly pulled her away.
The bullet hit and Mira was stunned when she realised whom it had hit.
"Rudra!"
She rushed towards him.
Rudra came in between when he saw that the bullet was going to hit Mira.
"Are you fucking crazy? Why would you do this?"
She looked at his arm where the bullet had scratched his arm.
"Then you want me to see you getting hit?"
He asked her while groaning in pain.
Damon tackled all men and rushed towards Rudra.
"You, okay?"
He checked his arm.
"Yeah!"
Rudra replied madly
"Why are you getting attacked like this and why is Mira at the target?"
"Let's take you to the hospital and then we'll talk about it."
Damon declared.
They took him to the hospital and Rudra was sitting madly there.
"Rudra?"
Mira called him nervously.
"Why were you there?"
"Damon called me for your success party but I got late. But forget about that, is this how he is protecting you?"
He snapped at her.
"You were at the gun point, You are staying away from him, he doesn't care about your safety or what?"
"He cares about me... He just wants to know what happened to me, it's my fault that I am not telling him anything."
She defended Damon.
"Nothing is more important than the relationship between husband and wife. Your past shouldn't be the problem here and it definitely shouldn't create distance between you two. Why is it so important for him?... It's a fucking past!"
He was irritated.
"And please don't defend him in front of me, you did the same for that dead bastard and we know what happened... Your choice in men was always wrong, Mira... Can't you just find a normal man and settle down."
"I love him!"
She argued back.
"And Damon is a good man, he has proved it in every step of our life... He is getting attacked because he has enemies, he is a mafia and you know how it works... It's not his fault... And I do believe that he deserves to know my past, it's me who doesn't want to see him in pain which I have gone through..."
Rudra rubbed his face.
"I don't know what to do with your dedication to the men who pretend to love you... I just want you to be safe..."
He scolded her.
"Try to stay alive until our father wakes up, can you do that?"
She sighed.
"Rudra, it's not that___"
"He will decide what to do with you and I'll make sure that this time he doesn't get manipulated by the love he has for you... You don't know what's right for you so we have to take it in our hands."
He stated.
"I don't like Damon, Mira... I am not pleased with your sudden marriage with this man which he had planned very cunningly while playing with two of my sisters... It's all because of that old man"
He was frustrated.
"He never fails to destroy the life of my loved ones."
Mira could understand his frustration and anger.
"I know you are mad and you have all the rights to be but Rudra, Damon is a safe place for me now... He is not a bad guy."
"How do I believe you after whatever has happened?"
He asked and she gulped.
"How, Mira? Do I need to remind you that in what state I found you?"
Mira looked down in guilt.
"You don't need to remind me, I will never forget."
"Then stop drowning in this foolish thing called love... For your sake!"
He sighed defeated.
"I can't see you in pain... I can't see your beautiful smile turning into tears..."
Mira wiped her tears.
"Let's go home... You are hurt."
She dismissed the topic. She knows that as a brother he is right in his place and he has all reasons to doubt Damon's intentions because he doesn't know him and Damon has spoiled his image by playing a marriage game. It's obvious that Rudra will doubt him.
Rudra sighed while grabbing his jacket and took Mira home while looking at Damon challengingly.
Next morning Damon was in his office, thinking about the last night and glancing at the door because he knows that Rudra is going to come to him.
The door got opened without knock and he smirked.
"How is your arm now?"
He asked Rudra when he entered inside.
"You don't need to care about my arm"
He snapped at him.
Damon smiled.
"Take a seat..."
Rudra rolled his eyes at his smile and sat in front of him.
He was irritated by Damon's cool and friendly approach.
"Stop faking it, Damon... I know you are not different from your father... I just don't understand why you are faking this good behaviour."
Damon chuckled at his words.
"I am not faking it, Rudra... I never fake myself, especially around women... I know that my father has a different image in your mind and it's true, he was a monster. I have seen him torture my mother our whole life. She was treated like some object and was hurt everyday."
He talked and Rudra frowned.
"As a kid, I used to just watch and cry because I was helpless... My mother endured all the pain in front of me and I couldn't protect her, it has hurt me deeply... That time I decided that, I won't be like my father. I'll never become the monster my father was. No woman will ever see the monster in me, they will be safe with me... No matter who the woman is and what she has done, my hand will never rise at her to hurt her. It was my promise to my mother..."
He sighed.
"My aim was to create a heaven for women around me. You will see my sisters thriving in their lives because they deserve all of it."
"Still you married my sister by deceiving her!"
He accused.
"I know but I never intended to hurt her..."
Damon assured.
"When I first saw Mira, she slapped me... That day she captured my soul. There was an urge to know her more, test her limits and explore her but she was forbidden fruit... There was no way to make her mine because she herself has created a strong flames of solitude around her which would have burnt me if I had tried to touch her..."
"So you used Durga!"
He scoffed.
"The most innocent girl in all this!"
"Durga was my responsibility, Rudra... Yes I am guilty of using her in my selfish games but I never hurt her, she wanted Yang so I helped her and she is happy and away from your golden cage. I freed her and you can't deny this."
He explained.
"I had to use her to manipulate the wedding because getting Mira directly was impossible. She was a widow and she was restricted from getting married again. She herself wouldn't have agreed and even if she would have agreed then your people would have shamed her for thinking about the second marriage... I had to create a situation where Mira would agree to the marriage without getting shamed and accused of anything which will scratch her dignity. I created a situation where your family will apologize to her for all the pain they have inflicted on her. A situation where your family will fall weak in front of her and vice-versa. I gave her the power to take the demands in her own hands and as a smart girl she did..."
"You married her for only one thing."
Rudra looked at him disgusted.
"I didn't go against her will, Rudra... You can ask her!"
Damon said confidently.
"I have never crossed the limits where Mira would be ripped away from her dignity... I am not that kind of monster."
"Agreed! If you would have crossed your limits then you would have been dead by now but now what, Damon?"
He asked sharply.
"Why does her past matter so much to you?"
"Because I have seen my mother dying everyday in her miserable life, she had no one to share her pain with. She couldn't say anything to me because I was a kid... I have seen it affecting her sanity and I also know that Mira has also suffered from something gruesome. I know that she will never hurt anyone like this until she is hurt to the extent where she is forced to kill someone... You tried to cover up but did you check on her mental health? You left for abroad after that and she must be dealing with her traumas alone... She fought back and survived that doesn't mean she is not mentally affected, Rudra. She is too young and she didn't cry after that. Can you imagine the trauma she is suppressing inside along with tears... The anger she holds inside her is because of her suppressed emotions, she is emotionally disturbed."
He scolded him.
"I don't like when women cry but when Mira shed her first tear for me, I was happy... She needed to let her emotions out... I want to share her pain, I want to make her feel safe and secure with me. She needs to know that she has someone on whom she can rely... I know her past might hurt me too but I deserve to know in order to protect her."
Rudra sighed while rubbing his face in a dilemma.
"It's her choice, Damon... If she doesn't want to tell you anything then it's my responsibility to protect her interest."
Damon realised that Rudra had started believing and trusting his intentions towards Mira, he was close to hitting the bullseye.
"You protect her interest and what about her life?"
Rudra frowned at him confused.
"What do you mean?"
"Someone from Mira's past has come out active... They are trying to hurt me and blame Mira for my murder... Maybe they want to hurt Mira... Last night's attack was proof..."
He informed.
"I need to protect her and for that I need to know the truth. I need to understand who that person is!... You have to tell me the truth."
Rudra's body is filled with goosebumps.
"Mira was___"
He struggled to complete the sentence.
"I am sorry, I can't.... I don't even know what exactly happened that day... Only Mira knows the complete truth..."
"We have to know, Rudra!"
Damon said frustrated. He thought he must be aware of the truth.
"She might not tell me but she will tell you... You have to force the truth out of her... We need to protect her from her past."
Rudra nodded.
"I'll ask her... She will tell me."
Damon's heart started hammering when he saw the hope.
"I'll make sure that she tells you everything and I hear it. Come with me!"
Rudra looked at him confused when Damon took him with him.
