Chapter 93 Echoes of Memory

Chapter 93 Echoes of Memory
No one moved. The sanctuary had settled into silence again, but it was no longer the same silence that had filled the room moments before. It felt alive. The symbols beneath Rowan's feet continued to glow faintly, their pale light pulsing like a heartbeat beneath the ancient stone.

She stared at them.

"I didn't do this."

Her voice barely carried through the room.

"I don't know how."

"No," Fenrir said quietly. "You didn't."

His eyes never left the markings.

"They recognized you."

Rowan looked at him.

"What does that even mean?"

Before Fenrir could answer, pain exploded behind her eyes. She gasped, staggering backward.

Corvin caught her before she hit the floor.

"Rowan."

She couldn't answer. The sanctuary disappeared. Cold, crystal clear water. She stood barefoot on the surface of a perfectly still lake that reflected a sky filled with unfamiliar stars. There was no wind. No sound. Only endless light stretching to every horizon. A child laughed. Rowan turned. A little girl, no older than seven, ran across the water as though it were solid ground. Silver hair danced behind her while brilliant white feathers drifted around her with every step. She stopped several yards away. Her eyes... They were Rowan's. The little girl smiled.

"You took longer than I thought."

Rowan's breath caught.

"Who are you?"

The child tilted her head.

"You already know."

"I don't."

"You used to."

The little girl looked over Rowan's shoulder.

"They're waking up."

"Who is?"

Instead of answering, the child reached out and gently touched Rowan's forehead. The world shattered. Images flooded her mind. Cities built from living crystal. Mountains that floated above oceans. Creatures she'd never imagined. Three figures standing atop a mountain of white stone. One wrapped in golden light. One cloaked in shadow. One... Hidden. Their faces blurred no matter how hard Rowan tried to focus. Then....... A scream. The mountain split apart. The sky cracked open. Darkness poured into the world. Someone shouted her name. Not Rowan. Another name. Older. Powerful. She reached for it. It slipped away like smoke.

"Rowan!"

Her eyes snapped open. She was back in the sanctuary. Corvin knelt beside her, one hand supporting her shoulders. Jess stood frozen. Fenrir watched with an expression Rowan had never seen before. Hope.

"What happened?" Corvin asked.

Rowan struggled to catch her breath.

"I..."

She pressed trembling fingers against her temples.

"I remembered..."

The words refused to come.

"It disappeared."

Fenrir nodded as though he had expected exactly that.

"The seal is breaking."

Jess frowned.

"What seal?"

"The one placed on her."

Silence settled over the room.

Corvin slowly stood.

"Who placed it?"

Fenrir's expression darkened.

"I don't know."

"But whoever it was..."

"They weren't trying to imprison her."

"They were trying to protect her."

"Protect her from what?" Rowan asked.

Fenrir looked toward the open sky.

"From herself."

Miles away, within the Council Citadel... The Elders stood in absolute silence. The ancient observatory had awakened for the first time in thousands of years. Constellations long erased from the heavens burned once more across the domed ceiling.

The oldest Elder slowly lowered his head.

"It is confirmed."

Another Elder whispered,

"Then we no longer have a choice."

"No."

The oldest turned toward the chamber doors.

"Send every hunter."

"Every Watcher."

"Every ally."

"Find her before she remembers."

Far to the north... Beyond the frozen sea... A woman stood alone on a cliff overlooking black water. Snow drifted around her without touching her skin. She opened her acient, silver eyes. She smiled softly.

"So..."

"It's finally time."

Behind her, dozens of figures emerged from the mist. Not vampires. Not angels. Not wolves. Something older. They bowed their heads.

"My Lady."

She looked toward the southern horizon.

"I've waited a very long time."

She took one step forward.

"Bring her home."

The figures disappeared into the storm without another word.

The woman remained at the edge of the cliff, watching the horizon with quiet certainty.

"For this time..."

She whispered into the wind.

"No one dies alone."

Far away, Rowan looked up at the same moon without understanding why tears suddenly filled her eyes. She had never been to the northern sea. She had never met the woman standing upon those cliffs. Yet somehow... Her heart already knew her. And somewhere deep inside her soul... A forgotten name strained to be remembered.
