Epilogue
One Year Later
The Barrett estate was filled with life, laughter, and warmth. It was the twins’ first birthday, and the garden had been transformed into a magical wonderland with twinkling lights, pastel-colored balloons, and flowers. The scent of freshly baked cakes and savory treats prepared for the celebration filled the air.
Raven stood in front of a large mirror in her bedroom, adjusting the delicate lace dress she wore. The gown hugged her figure in all the right places, a testament to how well she'd recovered after giving birth. She had lost some of her confidence after having the babies – her body had gone through so many changes, and she had hated looking in the mirror for a long time until Mason wouldn't allow her to anymore.
The thing she was most self-conscious of was the scar from the surgery she had had to have after the babies were delivered. Mason bought matching lingerie and sexy sleepwear and refused to let her question how stunning she was. Every time he saw her hesitate about wearing something she used to like how she looked in it, he would drag her to the bed and dress her himself amidst a lot of laughing when he tickled her into submission.
And, every night, he kissed along her scar and called her his warrior princess. Now, a year later, she wore her scar with pride. The doctors had done a good job of keeping it as discreet as they could, and now that it had faded, you could hardly see it.
Every day, the babies smiled and babbled up at her; when Mason burnt the pancakes on her first Mother's Day, she was proud of what she had achieved.
Now, she looked in the mirror and smiled at what she saw. She felt beautiful again, like her old self but… better. Her hair fell in soft curls around her shoulders, the strength she felt within herself, a new confidence and certainty at her abilities made her glow. The sight of her reflection holding her daughter, Andrea, filled her with pride and gratitude.
Andrea cooed softly, her big blue eyes wide with curiosity as she reached for her mother’s earrings. Raven laughed and kissed her on the forehead.
"Are you two ready yet?" Mason’s voice called from the hallway.
"In a minute!" Raven replied.
Mason appeared at the door, holding Alexander in his arms. The little boy was dressed in a tiny suit, his dark hair styled like his father’s. Mason looked as dashing as ever in a tailored navy suit, but it was the adoration in his eyes as he looked at Raven and their daughter that truly made her heart melt.
"You look stunning," Mason said, his voice filled with awe.
"And you look handsome," Raven replied, standing on her tip-toes for a kiss.
Alexander squirmed in Mason’s arms, and Mason laughed. "Looks like someone’s eager to get to the party. Are you ready for this?"
“I am so ready,” Raven smiled and handed Andrea to Mason and took Alexander from him.
"We shouldn’t keep everyone waiting. Especially the celebrants."
They made their way downstairs, where friends and family had gathered. Julie was by the cake table, fussing over the placement of candles with Emily laughing at her eye for detail. Blair was chatting with Justin, who had given in to Raven’s constant teasing and admitted they had been dating for some time. A few of Mason’s business partners and Raven’s clients were scattered around the garden with each holding a glass of wine, smiling at the cheerful chaos around them.
The party was everything Raven could have hoped for. Andrea and Alexander were the stars of the show, receiving endless affection from everyone when Raven noticed Blair sitting quietly by the fountain, tearing a napkin apart. She walked over, careful not to startle her.
"Hey," Raven said, sitting beside her sister.
Blair turned and smiled faintly. "Hey."
"Are you okay? You seem... distracted," Raven asked gently.
Blair sighed. "I’m fine. Just thinking about Mom."
Raven placed a hand on Blair’s. "It’s okay to miss her. No matter what she did, she was still your mother."
Blair nodded, her eyes misty. "Thanks, Raven. It means a lot coming from you. Everything she did to you… we did to you."
“You did what she raised you to do, Blair. She tried to make you someone you’re not and jokes on her; she lost because I have the sister I always wanted,” Raven smiled. "We’re family, Blair. And family sticks together."
Blair nodded but still looked like she had something on her mind.
"That's not the only thing bothering you, is it?"
"Raven,” Blair hesitated. “I'm pregnant.”
"Oh my God, are you serious???" Raven exclaimed, excited. "Why aren't you happy about it?"
"Well, I haven't told Justin about it. I don't know how he'll react. What if he doesn’t want the baby? He was never exactly the family man, remember."
"Are you talking about the same Justin or someone else? Look over there?" Raven said, pointing to Justin who was playing with the twins. "He comes here every single day just to play with them; he's had baby fever since the twins were born. Remember how he was so scared to hold them at first, and then cried when he first carried them?"
Blair laughed at the memory.
“I remember, but what if-”
“Blair, when Charles had the heart attack, Julie said he seemed different. I wasn’t there to see that, but when I got here… after Mason’s accident, the first time I saw Justin, I could see it.”
“See what?”
“Justin. The real Justin, not the party boy he always thought he was meant to be. Now, he’s the best uncle, the first one to volunteer to babysit every chance he gets. Now tell me why he wouldn't want to have kids of his own. Take a look at that man over there. See how happy he is? You can’t fake that kind of joy.”
"You're right, I'm probably just worried over nothing."
"That’s why you were thinking of Lenora, wasn’t it?” Raven sighed when Blair nodded. “Your history, who you thought you were meant to be, you have overcome it. And every day you hold your precious baby is another day you have overcome. Just because she raised you a certain way doesn’t mean you have to stay that way. The both of you are gonna be great parents, and Aunty Raven will be here for you every step of the way."
Blair hugged her tightly, whispering, “Thank you.”
"No need to thank me. I'm more excited to see how pregnancy treats you."
"You're crazy, I swear."
“Looks like you’re going to get to tell him now, he’s on his way over.”
Blair let out a squeak and clutched Raven’s hand.
“I can’t tell him… you tell him!”
“Nooo, you’re going to be a grown-up and tell your boyfriend you’re having a baby out of wedlock.”
“You-”
“Good luck!” Raven cheered, sauntering happily passed Justin. “Congrats!”
Justin looked confused, but a moment later, everyone looked at them when Justin cheered and laughed. He hugged her and lifted her from her feet as she giggled.
“I wonder what that’s about,” Julie asked.
“Another bun in the oven, I would think,” Emily said.
“How do you know?”
“Why else would he be kissing her stomach,” Emily turned Julie’s head back to watch them.
“Awww that’s adorable!”
“I thought this was meant to be a party!” a familiar voice cheered from behind them.
“Oh my God! Damon?” Julie was on her feet in seconds and ran to him, launching herself into his arms. “I can’t believe you’re here!”
Mason, jaw dropped, looked at Raven.
“Did you…”
Raven shook her head.
“Nah, that was all me,” Justin announced. He and Damon shook hands. “Australia looks good on you!”
“It’s a lot more relaxed, I love it. But, I want to introduce you all to my plus one, Heather.”
As everyone else surrounded Heather, Damon joined Mason and Raven. He looked at Justin with a tinge of annoyance in his eyes.
“I wasn’t sure I should come Justin threatened bodily harm if I didn’t… and I wanted to finally meet the twins.”
Damon held his hand out to offer to shake Mason’s hand. When Mason took it, he pulled Damon into a brotherly hug.
“You’ve got perfect timing,” he said and handed him a stinky Alexander and pretended to hear a phone ringing. “Should've come back sooner, you wouldn't have to be on diaper duty!”
“Bastard,” Damon laughed, turning to Raven. “Um, can you show me how these things work?”
“How are you doing?” she asked as she led the way to the blanket they had laid out as a changing station. “Is everything okay?”
“Yeah, I’m good. I'm enjoying life to the fullest,” he said, referring to Heather.
“I'm happy for you, glad to see you found someone you love.”
"Love?" Damon asked. "Who said she's my girlfriend? I said plus one."
"What? But she's pretty, what not to like about her?"
“She’s just good enough if you know what I mean,” Damon winked at her as he followed her instructions on how to change a diaper. “Enough about me. I’m happy, you’re glowing, the babies are amazing, and Mason is in Mason again. What could be better than all of that?”

A short time later, Mason found Raven sitting under a willow tree, watching the twins play with Julie and Emily. He sat beside her, taking her hand in his.
"You’ve been quiet," he said.
"Just taking it all in," Raven replied. "I couldn’t have imagined this. The twins, us, everyone is happy."
Mason kissed her hand. "We’ve been through a lot, but we made it. Together."
Raven leaned her head on his shoulder. "Do you ever think about what could have been if things had gone differently?"
Mason thought for a moment. "I used to. But then I realized that every twist and turn brought me to you. And now, I can’t imagine my life any other way."
Raven smiled, her heart full. "I love you, Mason."
"I love you more," he replied, pulling her into a kiss. "Now that everyone’s here, you ready?"
"Definitely. I get to have you to myself and a good night's sleep… Does Justin know he’s babysitting?"
“I just told him, he was thrilled… Come with me." Mason helped her stand up.
Mason clinked his glass to get everyone’s attention.
"Thank you all for being here to celebrate this special day with us. Andrea and Alexander are so lucky to have so many people who love them. And Raven and I are grateful for every one of you."
There was a round of applause, and Mason continued.
“There have been a lot of dark times, but I look at all of you, and it’s turned into something beautiful,” Raven added.
"Before we wrap up, we have one more thing we’d like to do-”
Justin cleared his throat loudly.
“Seriously, man? You have twins, you do need tips on that. You can at least wait-”
“Do you have to say something about everything?” Blair snapped, laughing.
“It’s nothing like that. Follow us!”
Raven and Mason led the way around the house to a nearby garden. There were chairs, an arch, a red carpet-
“Oh. My. God.” Emily clapped.
“What? What’s going on?” Justin asked.
“We’re getting married!”
“Well, yeah, the giant rock on your finger made that… oh, you’re getting married now? Like, right now, now?”
Everyone laughed and took their seat, Mason insisted Damon stand by his side as his best man. Before Justin could join everyone else, he stopped when Raven took his hand.
“I need someone to walk me down the aisle…”

Later that night, after everyone had left and the twins were with Blair and Justin, Raven and Mason sat on the balcony of their bedroom, wrapped in a blanket together.
"I still can’t believe we pulled it off," Raven said, admiring the ring on her finger.
Mason chuckled. "I want the whole world to know you're mine."
Raven leaned into him. "You’re stuck with me now."
"Good," Mason said, kissing the top of her head.
As they sat there, watching the stars, Raven felt a sense of peace she hadn’t known in years. The journey had been long and filled with challenges, but it had led her to this moment, a moment of love, family, and a future full of promise.
