Chapter 8
Kelvin's POV
I broke into a cold sweat. I quickly pulled my self together. I thought of the best way to avoid the accident. We moved and the car followed closely. I guessed the driver's intention.
"Victor", I called but I only gut a hum in response. Nevertheless, I continued. " When you get near that narrow bend, match the brakes instantly. The driver's intention might be to corner you at that sharp bend and cause an accident. He will definitely fail of you do so".
"Yeah. You have a point".
Everything went as planned. Victor matched the brakes and the driver of the other car passed us and stopped in front. His intentions clearly ruined. We didn't run into his car. Victor wanted to step out and get the idiot. But I thought otherwise. I held his hand before he opened the door. " That person will have weapons on him. And we don't have any. We can not risk it. He wants our lives and will be more than glad if we threw ourselves at him now ".
Victor wasn't convinced. " We need to know who ever is behind this ", he answered his eyes filled with worry.
" No need. I already know who is behind it".
"You do?", he asked in surprise.
" Yes". I knew it was Silas. He is always up to no good. We have been rivals for so long and I knew he wanted me out of the way.
"He is leaving", Victor said. I looked and saw the other car driving away. He went further and took a right turn in bid to return where he came.
" Let's keep going ". Victor didn't say anything and neither did he obey my instruction. I met his eyes and knew quickly what he was thinking. I didn't wait for him to voice it out. " I am fine. It's okay. Just drive let's go home. Okay?".
Silas's POV
I dropped my phone and banged the table in anger. "That damned bastard. He got away. How manage?". I banged my fists continuously on the table. An idea occurred to me again. I quickly called my mum.
" Mum, it's time to take a step further. Tell your husband that I want to return home. I want full rights as his son. A legitimate son at that. And after that, I will be made the president."
"Silas, that's a little too brisk. It will spoil the plans. You need to go slowly so that you can get everything in the end", replied my mum.
" Relax mother, I know what I am doing. You just need to watch. Just do as I say and things will go well. Let me attend to other things ma". I ended the call with confidence that mum will do as I said. She had full confidence in me. I was tired of being considered an illegitimate child and Kelvin a legitimate one. Throughout my stay in school, I had borne the ridicule. I was not going to take it anymore. We were sent out of the house ten years ago. I swore to get back. I smiled as I imagined the look that will be on Kelvin's face when I return.
Kelvin's POV
I opened my tired eyes. It was morning. I had my bath quickly and put on my clothes. I haven't been home for a week. I went on a business trip and returned the previous day. I looked at my image in the mirror and I felt like I have added some weight. I smiled and went down for breakfast. My smile disappeared the moment I glanced at the breakfast table. There was pin drop silence. Some servants even held their breaths. Seated on the table was Silas! How did that happen? I wondered what happened in my absence. Dad sat at table as well. I took a deep breath and tried to relax.
"Good morning Dad", I greeted and sat down, completely ignoring the unwanted visitor.
" Morning ", dad replied and continued his breakfast. It was a simple breakfast of tea and sandwiches.
" Hello brother ", Silas greeted me with a smile.
" Hi", I responded without raising my head. Dad drank some water and glanced my way and said, "Silas will be staying with us from now". I raised a brow and asked," staying? "
"Yes, staying. I hope you guys get along", he finished. The last statement annoyed me. What did he mean by get along? Silas was clearly the troublesome one. Well, I knew my self too well. As long as he doesn't cross my path, we are fine. I had not forgotten the accident he planned for me.
" Kelvin, you look great. What has dad been feeding you?", Silas asked smiling. I knew he wanted to start a conversation. But I was not going to give him the chance. He definitely has something up his sleeves. I looked at him and said, "Silas, I am eating. Simple table manners demands I don't talk while eating ". I quickly resumed eating.
" Okay, we will talk after that" came his reply. "I am going to work", I said immediately. I thought that will keep him silent but I was wrong. He still continued, " That's great. It will be nice if I come around, won't it?".
I sipped my tea in silence. I wondered what he was up to. The silly idiot still kept talking. "Dad, don't you think it will be great if I went with him? So that I can see how things are done in the company". My father stood up calmly and glared at him. Dad was done with his breakfast. He adjusted his shirt and buttoned up. He walked out silently . I had already lost my appetite. I beckoned to a servant nearby. " Tell the maids to please make me noodles. And quickly too. Clear the table after. Thank you", I finished and have him a little smile. I left Silas there and walked upstairs.
I came downstairs after having my breakfast upstairs. I smiled in satisfaction. Silas was no longer in the sitting room. Maybe he is gone for good. I came outside and saw Victor already waiting for me beside my car. I flashed him a smile and opened the door. To my greatest surprise, I saw Silas seated in there and smiling at me like an idiot.
