Chapter 17 Another argument with her mother

During dinner, Amelia was especially obedient. She ate whatever Damien served her without complaining it lacked flavor. However, her appetite seemed not so good. She only ate a small bowl of rice and said she was full.

Ms. Linda, while cleaning up the dishes, asked Damien.

"Young master, what's wrong with Amelia? She seems to be in a bad mood."

Damien's eyes turned cold, feeling puzzled as well. Could it be because of the scolding he gave her at noon? But upon careful recollection, he couldn't remember saying anything hurtful.

"Give her a bowl of soup later, maybe her appetite isn't good."

Ms. Linda nodded.

"Okay, I'll stew it now so she can have it as a late-night snack. Oh, by the way, Madam called today and said there's a gathering tonight. She wants you to represent the Kingsleys."

Damien gathered his eyebrows slightly. These high society gatherings were ultimately just opportunities for matchmaking.

Even though Ms. Linda was only a servant of the Kingsleys, she was trusted by Madam, so she knew a thing or two about the affairs in this prestigious family. She glanced towards the bedroom and let out a soft sigh.

She didn't know what her young master was thinking. Actually, Madam and the Chairman didn't have high expectations regarding his partner's background. Young master could have just brought Amelia home, avoiding the need to attend such gatherings.

Of course, since the young master didn't do that, there must be a reason behind it. Ms. Linda didn't have the right to ask. She just worried about Amelia.

It was common for wealthy young masters to keep mistresses outside. It would be a shame for Amelia, who was such a good child, to become a mistress.

Amelia's petite body sank into the soft chair, holding her phone in her hand.

The phone kept ringing, but she couldn't find the courage to answer.

This was the only time her mother had called since she left home. Amelia had deliberately avoided any contact with her family, not replying to messages from her father or her brothers.

Mom's phone call came in and the long-term fear made her unable to ignore the call. She dared not answer the phone.

Once the call was connected, Judy's familiar roar came from the phone.

"Amelia, are you dead? Can't you see the messages Dad sent you? If you have the guts, never come back. Even if you die outside, don't let us handle your corpse. You're just a girl, but you sure have a temper. Can't I just scold you a little? You run away from home? Who are you threatening? Are you threatening me? Can you really threaten me? Even if you die, we will all be fine, it won't affect us in any way."

Amelia tightly held her phone, tears streaming uncontrollably down her face.

Mom's words, saying that it didn't matter if she died, felt like knives stabbing her heart, causing her to tremble uncontrollably with pain.

"Are you mute? Can't you hear me?"

Amelia choked, trying to make her voice sound less sad.

"I... I'm fine, I... won't come home for now."

"What did you say?"

Judy's voice suddenly raised, causing Amelia's grip on her phone to almost slip, she held onto her phone tightly, straightened her neck, and repeated herself.

"I will find a job, and won't come home for now."

Even through the phone, Amelia could feel Judy's anger, it made her tense up all over.

"Finding a job? You, a person who didn't even go to college, what kind of job can you find? Come back to me right now, don't embarrass me outside. Our family is a respectable family, don't do those disgraceful jobs."

Amelia cried, she really couldn't imagine a mother speaking to her child in this way, this humiliation and disdain almost made Amelia lose control of her emotions.

"Is it that a girl who didn't go to college can't have a decent job in your eyes? You wanted me dead, right? Then just treat me as dead."

Amelia yelled until her voice was hoarse and threw the phone with force.

Damien pushed the door open and saw the fragmented phone by the door, as well as Amelia, hunched over with her knees pulled up, trembling and crying.

He walked over, squatted in front of Amelia, and gently touched her head.

"Was it a call from your home?"

Amelia buried her face in her knees, trembling all over, and her suppressed sobs intermittently came out.

Damien looked at her, took two steps forward, and gently embraced the girl.

"It's okay, I'll help you sort things out, and I’ll go and talk to your family."

He thought that Amelia's estrangement from her family was because of the child, she didn't dare to go home or answer their calls because she couldn't face them. The pain was caused by him, and he felt guilty and pitied this girl. He came to help her resolve these issues.

But Amelia in his arms shook her head vigorously.

"No, it's not because of the baby. It's not because I'm not a boy, that's why she never liked me since I was little. She just said... she won't even handle my corpse if I died."

This is not something a mother would say.

He knew Amelia's family background might not be good and her life must be very difficult, but he didn't know it was so difficult for her in that household.

He held Amelia's hand and said softly, "Then don't go back, I will take good care of you here."

Amelia looked at him, feeling even more distressed. How long can you accompany me? She was always afraid that she would get used to Damien's care and would be reluctant to leave when the time came.

After all, he was someone she had to leave.

"I'll carry you to bed, you rest for a while, don't think about those things for now, okay?"

Amelia didn't say anything.

Damien placed his arm under her legs and carried her gently. Amelia was very light, with a slender figure. She seemed even thinner now that she was pregnant. Damien gazed at her; it seemed that she needed to eat more.

After placing Amelia on the bed and tucking her hair behind her ears, he said seriously, "No one can hurt you here. Just rest assured and no matter what happens, I will take care of it, okay?"

Amelia forced a bitter smile. Why should Mr. Kingsley solve the troubles in her family?

Damien noticed that this girl didn't speak much, but she was stubborn. If she didn't say anything, it meant she didn't agree. He sighed helplessly and gently touched Amelia's head, not saying anything more.

He went to the cloakroom to change his clothes and when he came out, he saw Ms. Linda standing at the door, instructing her.

"Pay attention to her, her mood is not good today."

Ms. Linda nodded. She had heard Amelia crying just now but didn't dare to go in when young master was in the room. She was a little worried now.

"Young master, what happened to Amelia? I heard her making a phone call just now."

Damien didn't say much, just advised, "Pay attention to her mood. If she starts crying again, call me."
