Chapter 51
Chapter 51
“Mathew, how did you find me?” Aaron rubs across his eyes. The headache comes and goes. This has him very worried. It would seem he has moments of forgetfulness.
“You have disappeared sir. I thought it best to watch the hospital. Today it paid off. Where did you go sir?”
“I am not sure.” Aaron reaches for the cup of coffee.
“Where is Miss Annie?”
“You are aware we are together?” Aaron looks surprise.
“Yes sir. Don’t understand your questions.” Mathew looks curiously at him.
“Sir, I am your on and off driver. We all were together when someone hit me over the head. When I finally wake you were gone. I am not completely sure but I think it was Zac and another man he called Adam Blake. Do you remember the accident in Switzerland? That’s where we heard that name too.”
Aaron shakes his head.
“Sir, we were busy with an investigation about Zac’s doings. He has managed to steal from you. I am just not sure if you had found the missing millions.”
“Do you know where my office is?”
“Which one sir, the general one or the hidden one,” Mathew stood looking serious. “I think I should take you sir.”
Annie slowly stood up from the kitchen table when she saw her mother and father entering. She just stood looking at them both.
“Mom” she finally asked.
“Did you hear anything from Aaron yet?” Hanna switches on the kettle. “Sit down Thom. There is no point in standing around.
“Hello Annie,” he said hesitantly.
“Hello sir.”
“Annie …”
“Sorry Mom, no nothing. What is going on?”
“How is the headache?”
“Dull but okay I guess.”
“I met Aaron’s mother just now.” Hanna said while placing the cup of coffees in the middle of the table. She was worried but it was time for some truth telling too. Their whole lives were turned upside down.
“What did she say?” Annie watches her father playing with an electronic device. He keeps moving around the kitchen.
“Is it safe, Thom?”
“Yes, for now.” He said quietly.
“Mom, what the hell is going on?”
“We need to have a meeting in private, away from the places we all knows. She wants to tell us some very important information.” Hanna said carefully. “We don’t have much time. Where is Aaron? He needs to be there too.”
“He is gone. He won’t answer my call.’ Annie said worried.
“Do you think he has the headaches again? I know it is making both of you forgetful.”
“You seem to have an idea what’s going on here mom,”
“I do, but Aaron needs to hear this too. We don’t have much time.”
Aaron found himself getting into the vehicle. His coordination wasn’t very stable. His thoughts was a jumbled mess of fragmented pieces of information. Nothing makes sense.
“Mathew,” he said.
“Yes sir,” the driver looks at him through the rearview mirror.
“My head is killing me.” He admits rubbing the pain from his temples.
“You need me to get you some pain medicine?”
“No, I think the pills are messing with my memory. Things happens and I forget.”
“What does miss Annie say? Where is she anyway?”
“I don’t know.”
“What were you doing at the hospital?” Mathew asked worried.
“I don’t know.” Aaron tastes the dryness in his mouth.
“I did background checks on Zac and Adam Blake. Maybe you might learn some things from that information. There was an odd-looking doctor. I was curious so I followed him to this mansion. The place was almost in ruins but I discovered a lonely woman being trapped in there.” Mathew said. He keeps talking to make his Boss focused.
“What do you mean, trap?” Aaron opens the back window. He hopes the cool air would bring a bit more clarity to his thoughts.
Annie was worried. Her headache was now just a dull throbbing. Her mouth tastes dry. She needs some pain killers. As she stood to reach for the pills in the cabinet, and throws a couple out onto her hand, Thom suddenly slapped it out of her hand.
“Why did you do that?” she asked puzzled.
“Who gave you those pills, Annie?”
“The pharmacist at Grand Central Hospital.” Annie looks confused.
“Don’t drink it.” He said urgently.
“What do you know?” the suspicion clearly in her eyes.
“Annie, that is part of the reason we need to talk with Aaron’s mom. We need to find him. The woman doesn’t have much time.”
“I am confused. Didn’t she die when Aaron was just a boy?” the throbbing headache really muddles her thoughts.
“I know this doesn’t make sense, Annie.” Hanna looks very worried.
“Mom, I trust you.” She stood up needing some fresh air. She slipped out the back door going to stand in the middle of the garden. Keeping her body motionless, she tries to gather her scrambled thoughts.
“What the hell is going on here?” she asked herself softly.
Aaron slowly climbed out of the vehicle. He needed to quickly balanced himself as he was getting dizzy. Once the feelings have past, he slowly focused on his surroundings. This single building stood in the middle of nowhere.
“What are we doing here?” The place didn’t look familiar to him.
“This is your secondary office building, sir. Just before you left for Switzerland, you created this office space. You warned me never to let anyone know about this.”
“Did I tell you why?” he rubs over his eyes. The headache seemed to have passed for now. He quietly wonders what would trigger it again. They seemed to be a constant part of his life.
“Zac was your right-hand man but his behavior in Switzerland finally made you understood, you can’t trust him. You call me to do surveillance on him and doctor Grace Stevens.”
“What did you discover?”
“It’s all in the files, sir.”
Aaron watches his driver unlocking the ordinary looking door. The man then handed him another set of keys. The moment he was in the building he realized how deceptive it looks from outside. It was quickly clear he has a very organized computerized team in place. He follows Mathew to the back where he unlocks another door.
“I am thirsty,” he said quietly.
“I will bring water. He again gives Aaron a set of keys.
Once the office door was closed, he just stood there looking around. He can see the monitors was active recording everything. The moment he saw Annie’s picture flashing onto the screen he moved closer.
“What is going on, Annie?” Looking at her he felt a clarity of thinking.
