Chapter 90: Press conference
Chapter 90: Press conference
Ellasandra's POV
I controlled my emotion and tried to remain calm even if I was at my limits because of this reporter. He was clearly paid by either Matthew or Ashley. "What do you think? After I learned that my husband was being used and he's in danger, I came back without any second thoughts. I reclaimed my seat again as Mrs. Midnight and will be for the next five or more decades," I declared firmly.
"Alright, next," Lance stated.
That reporter's seat and that slight smirk he gave me had caught my attention. I guess I'll let him taste Ellasandra Winters' power. He'll surely regret using his rude tone. "This question is for Mrs. Midnight. For you, what could be the reason why Ms. Vargas suddenly posted such claims?" she asks. I lean over.
"It was clear as day. She wants to fool my husband again and make him believe that she's carrying their child. She will use the baby to sow discord between me and Rafael once again. Well, too bad for her. The two of us learned our lessons," I respond.
She speaks again for her last question. "This is for Mr. Midnight. What could be the reason why Mr. Jacobs teamed up with your university sweetheart just to fool you?" she asks. Rafael leans over and speaks.
"Matthew and I had been at odds since high school. At the same time, we had many serious conflicts during college that worsened when we started running the businesses of our family. That could be his reason for making that plot against me," he replied calmly.
"At the same time, he seems to have taken a fancy to my wife after her identity was finally exposed. I won't be surprised. You can see clearly why he should be," he stated. He looks at me and smiles. "Next question," Lance stated.
"This is for Mr. Midnight. Ms. Vargas is like you're the one that got away. How could Mrs. Midnight be sure that the child she's carrying isn't yours?"
I was about to answer, but Rafael stops me. His palm held me tighter. "I know that everyone won't believe our statement. Science made a huge advance in this century. I can have a paternity test to prove that the baby she's carrying isn't mine. Also, if it's mine, I won't deny the baby. It's my flesh and blood," Rafael answered.
I smiled after I heard what he said. "But I'm not divorcing my wife. She's the air I breathe. I was a walking dead for the past three years, and now that she's back, I'm keeping her for life. I owe her more than my life can pay," he added.
"Two last questions, and we will end this press conference. I hope everyone will only ask relevant queries," Lance asserts.
"Good day, Mr. and Mrs. Midnight. This question is for the two of you. Do you believe that the relationship that you both had was toxic?" she asks. I decided to speak first. "YES. I won't deny that. We started in a toxic way, and we're both doing our best to fix and work things out."
"I agree with my wife. On the level of toxicity, mine was the highest. My manipulation and control caused her to have a terrifying experience from me," Rafael added.
A male reporter stood up and asked next. "For you, Mrs. Midnight. Do you believe that Mr. Jacobs took a fancy to you? If yes, could this possibly be another trick from him and Ms. Vargas to destroy your marriage with Mr. Midnight?"
"I believe he might be interested in me. My family background speaks a lot. Business marriages are normal, which are not about staying rich and connecting rich. It's about using each other's resources to be a bigger den of predators."
I paused and took a deep breath. "Also, there's a possibility that they could plot together like that. They are clearly partners in crime. Nonetheless, my marriage will be a dungeon that can never be conquered by any parties," I continued. Another male reporter stood up.
Lance was about to speak when our eyes met. I move my head a little, and he understands what it means. "This is for Mr. Midnight. This seems to be a declaration of business war between you and Mr. Jacobs. What do you think about it?" he asks. My husband leans his elbow on the lectern and adjusts the microphone.
"We've always been in a business war. All I can say is that I'm fighting back with my own strength. I have to keep the legacy of Midnight Group because I know my children will be the next generation who can make the business grow stronger," Rafael remarks.
I love that answer. He just low-key agreed with my plans of having kids. Not just a kid. Being an only child is lonely. Having children might be a lot of work, but we can surely work things out. I know that. "Alright, everyone. This is the end of our press conference. Midnight group will still release a statement through our platforms. Thank you," Lance says.
He signed to us that my husband and I can leave the stage now. Rafael crouches down and grabs my thighs, carrying me using his right arm. He walks down the stairs, and we exit at the side door. Securities followed us. In the hallway, I heard his phone buzzing.
"That could be Ashley. I'm sure she's mad because of how you exposed them without hesitation," I utter. Rafael didn't answer and continued walking with huge steps. We get inside the elevator. After a few minutes it opens in the parking lot.
"Three meters, be vigilant, and turn back," he says. I was a bit confused. As we headed to where his car was parked, his men halted three meters away. They turned their back in the car and stood like a soldier protecting the
president of a country. He opens the passenger seat. I
thought he'd walk around the car to get inside the driver's seat, but I was wrong. The moment he adjusted my seat, I
knew I was doomed. He closed the door and placed his hand on my side. "Love, what are you planning to do?" I ask, gulping. The question was stupid, but I still damn well asked it!
