Chapter 56
May was just leaving work when she heard someone call her name, she turned around and saw Mike running to her.
"Mike? What's wrong?" She asked when he got to where she was.
"Are you going home?" Mike asked and she nodded in reply.
"Err...can we go out?"
May furrowed her brow. "What?" She asked in surprise.
"Dang it!" Mike muttered. "I knew that didn't come out well." He said to himself once more.
"I..I mean, remember the last time when I said I wanted to take you on a date? Can I take you out now? I've got a—"
"I'm really sorry Mike, can we do this some other time, I need to head back home and help Alicia.''
"Alicia? Is something wrong with her?" Mike asked worriedly.
"No not her, it's her daughter, Diane, she's unwell and I would love to go back and help her take care of Diane. She had to put a lot of things on hold so as to take care of Diane, I need to go home and give her a hand."
"Then I'll come with you."
"What? Why?"
"Because I can't remember the last time I saw Alicia and I..." He trailed. "I would love to meet Diane too."
May didn't know what to say, so she simply agreed. "Okay."
"Come with me then, let's take my car." Mike said and led the way.
On their way to Alicia's home, Mike stopped at a store to get something for both Alicia and Diane, he also got something for May.
When they arrived, they both got down from the car, May offered to help Mike carry the gifts he bought, but he wouldn't let her and insisted on carrying it alone.
May smiled at him, she then shook her head before walking to the door step, she used her spare key to open the door since she wouldn't want to bother Alicia, then they both went in and she shut the door after wards.
May noticed that there was no sign of Alicia anywhere downstairs, she asked Mike to wait for them in the living room while she go fetch Alicia.
The first place May went to was Diane's room, she gently knocked on the door before opening it, she met Alicia reading Diane a story, while Diane was eating in bed.
Diane looked at May, and her face instantly lit up. "Aunt May!" She called, smiling brightly.
May hurriedly went to sit beside her, then she gave her a hug. "How's my little angel doing?"
"I'm fine Aunt, welcome back."
"Great! I guess someone didn't see me." Alicia scoffed, then she turned her face away.
"Oh come on, don't be such a baby." May chuckled. "How are you Miss Alicia Davis?"
"I'm good." Alicia replied with a smile. "How are you and how was work?''
"Work was fine, I do hope Diane is feeling better." May replied, stroking Diane's hair lovingly.
"Yes, better than earlier today, I believe she's well but she still can't go to school for a few days, I would love to observe her carefully and take better care of her."
May nodded in understanding. "Uhm, Alicia, I think you should go downstairs, there's someone waiting for you and he's in the living room."
Alicia furrowed her brow in confusion. "Really? Who's that?"
"Why don't you go down and find out for yourself, I'll be here with Diane."
"Are you seriously not going to tell me who it is?" Alicia asked.
May shook her head. "There's no way I'm telling, so you better hurry down and find out for yourself, don't keep the person waiting.''
"You're impossible." Alicia stood up, she kissed Diane's forehead, then she excused herself.
When Alicia got to the living room she tilted her head, trying to get a look at the person's face but couldn't.
"Hello?" She said softly, and Mike turned to look at her.
When Mike saw her, he instantly stood up from the chair he was sitting on.
Alicia froze for a second, her eyes went wide with shock and surprise.
"Mike!!" She screamed in excitement, then she ran to him and hugged him tightly.
"Mike, I... It's really you, I can't believe this." She said, not wanting to let go of him.
"Alicia." Mike hugged her even tighter. "I'm really sorry for taking so long to come see you, I'm so sorry Alicia."
"You don't have to apologize Mike, all that matters is that you're here now and I get to see you once again, you have no idea how much I've missed you." Alicia finally let go of Mike.
"I saw you on newspapers and all that, but it's nothing compared to finally getting to see you in person, so much has changed Alicia and you..." He trailed. "You look so good and I can see that you're living so well and fine, you're even a best selling author now, not just in Seattle but in so many countries too."
"Come on Mike, enough with the whole flattering now, you also look so good yourself and you've added a few pounds too." She teased, then she burst into laughter.
"Of course that's not true, I'm still as fit and handsome as ever." Mike bragged.
Alicia shook her head. "You still haven't changed Mike, you're still the same old Mike with his own little touch of craziness."
Mike chuckled, then he sighed deeply. "It's really good to see you Alicia, you have no idea how bad I've been wanting to see you but then...a lot has been happening and I never got the chance to come see you."
"Come on Mike, it's okay, I'm just glad you're here now, I've missed you so much too."
"Oh yes." Mike clapped as he remembered something. "How about err...Your daughter, Diane."
"You know about Diane?" Alicia asked, then she facepalms herself when she remembered Adams. "Of course you do." She added.
"May told me she wasn't feeling well, how's she now?" Mike asked with so much worry and concern.
"She's fine now, but I won't be letting her go to school yet."
"Can I see her?" Mike asked.
Alicia went silent for a second, but she finally replied. "Of course Mike, you can come with me." She smiled.
"One moment please." Mike hurriedly took the three boxes he kept on the chair.
"What's that?"
"Presents for you all, I couldn't come here empty handed."
Alicia laughed. "As expected from you Mike." She replied, then she led the way to Diane's room.
