Chapter 94 Ignoring Me?

Chapter 94 Ignoring Me?
XAVIER

"Nothing," Jessica said, making me look at her. "Excuse me," she said, walking past me and then Kendra.

I followed her with my gaze as she walked ahead.

My heart is still reacting the same as I stared.

"Where is my dad?" Kendra reminded me of her presence, making me look at her.

She is scowling at me.

"What?"

"My dad," she almost snarled.

"In there," I said, gesturing with my head.

She averted her eyes from me as she walked past me.

I looked in the direction Jessica took again. She is out of sight.

"I don't want to ever speak to you again. Stay far away from me, got it?"

Why does that make me feel this weird feeling?

MINUTES LATER.......

INSIDE THE WARD.......

"Can you please quiet down?" Alex asked as Kendra's phone kept playing in the background. I looked up from my phone from where I am seated on the couch that is close to the wall and facing Brad's bed.

Kendra is seated on a different couch that is on the left side of Brad's bed and close to the restroom door. Her legs are crossed and she is busy with her phone. Alex was seated on the barstool close to the edge of the bed.

And Brad is still in the same position.

"Dad needs to rest," he added.

Kendra scoffed. "It is not my fault my job is so demanding unlike yours."

Alex scoffed. "How is dancing demanding?"

"I don't expect a dumb attorney like you to understand."

"The fuck you just call me?"

"Guys, please," Brad spoke up. "Not now."

Alex said something under his breath but Kendra rolled her eyes, returning to her phone.

I returned my gaze to my phone, reading the texts from my business associates' group chat.

Next, the door opened, revealing an unfamiliar nurse and Jessica following her behind.

"Finally," Alex said, as Jessica and the nurse moved closer to Brad.

"I apologize i took too long, sir" the unfamiliar nurse said, walking around Brad's bed and moving toward the IV pole.

Jessica stood on Brad's right side like before, placing her hands on his pillow and arm side.

"It's okay, nurse," Brad said, moving his eyes to Jessica and smiling.

Jessica smiled too.

I can't remember the last time she smiled at me like that.

Why is that bothering me all of a sudden?

"Uh, no. It is not okay, Dad," Kendra said, walking close to the bed and folding her hands. "These nurses are being incompetent. Why did they waste our time?" she asked, scowling at Jessica.

"Kendra....."

"We can shut down this fucking hospital, you know," she said, ignoring Brad and still scowling at Jessica.

Jessica opened her mouth to speak but...

"I really apologize for the delay, ma'am" the nurse chipped in, claiming Kendra's attention. "I couldn't get the ward number right till nurse Jessica found me."

Kendra scoffed. "Seriously?"

"I am really sorry, ma'am"

"It is okay, dear. Just get on with your job." Brad said.

"Thank you, sir." the nurse said, returning her attention to the IV pole.

"And you," Kendra called, staring at Jessica. "Why aren't you the one handling your uncle's health? Why her, huh?"

What the fuck is wrong with Kendra right now?

"You are just standing there like a statue and being useless."

"That's enough, Kendra!" Brad yelled.

"Seriously," Alex muttered.

"Mind the way you speak to her," Brad warned, making Jessica place her hand on his shoulder to calm him.

Kendra scoffed. "She is supposed to be the one taking care of you and not standing there like a statue.

"I am done with my shift," Jessica spoke up. "It is against the hospital's policy to work after your shift. That's taking others' work time."

"So?" Kendra shrugged.

"At least she helped us get his nurse, Kendra." Alex chipped in.

"Stay out of this, Alex."

"You stay out of this, Kendra. Stop adding to my margarine, damn it." Brad snapped, making Kendra scowl at him.

"Tell her to behave, Xavier."

And he had to involve me.

"You already told her. I think she heard you clearly, right, Kendra?" I asked, making her look my way.

I rested my eyes on her.

She gritted her teeth before looking away from me as she walked back to her seat.

"Alright, sir, the IV is going well. It will be done in an hour." the nurse said.

"Thank you," Brad said.

"I will come back and check on you later."

"That will be great."

The nurse nodded, walking away but not without exchanging a slight wave with Jessica.

"Is she your friend too?" Brad asked.

"We are not close. Just colleagues. My friend is done with her shift too but she left already." Jessica said, smiling at him.

"That is nice," Brad said.

I guess I am not getting that smile since she wants me away from her.

Funny thing is it shouldn't be a bother.

"You should be on your way home too, Jess," Alex said, making Jessica look at him. "You look stressed."

"That's true, princess. You need to go home and rest."

Jessica shook her head.  "No, I want to stay till you get discharged, uncle."

I heard a malicious scoff from Kendra.

"Stay for an entire hour?" Brad asked.

"Mm hmm," Jessica nodded.

"No, princess. No need for that. Alex, Kendra, and your uncle Xavier are here to keep me company. You don't have to worry. I will be fine."

"Yes, Jessica," Kendra chipped in. "Alex and I can take care of our dad. Go home to yours."

I looked at Kendra.

She is giving weird attitudes that I have never seen right now.

"Just go home, Jess. I will call you when he gets discharged." Alex said.

"Okay. If you both insist." Jessica said.

"Yes, we insist," Brad said, holding Jessica's hand.

Jessica smiled at him. "Okay,"

"Brad, buddy," I called, standing on my feet and taking everyone's attention.

Except Jessica's.

"I need to be at the company. I have an important meeting in a few minutes."I said, putting my phone in my pocket.

"Perfect timing. You can drop Jessica at home," he said, making me move my eyes to Jessica.

"Um that will not be necessary," she said, staring at Brad.

"Why not?" Brad asked.

She opened her mouth to speak.

"Yes, Jessica." I chipped in.

She looked at me.

"Why not?" I asked.

Her eyes moved to Alex and then to me.

I raised my brows.

She returned her eyes to Brad.

"Because um.....because my boyfriend will be dropping me off."

I felt an angry feeling picking up.

"Boyfriend?" Alex chipped in.

"You have a boyfriend?" Brad asked.

Jessica nodded, making me clench my left knuckle.

Kendra scoffed. "Who in their right senses would want to date someone like you?"

"Stop with the hate, Kendra" Alex said.

"I asked a good question, dummy." Kendra defended.

"Sounds like jealousy to me."

"Excuse you?"

"No boyfriend in your life. No one wants to date you."

Kendra huffed in disbelief as I rested my eyes on Jessica while Kendra and Alex's argument went on.

Jessica looked at me but averted her eyes.

"Alright, that is enough. You two!" Brad shunned, shutting the two up.

"Jessica, princess. This boyfriend you speak of, is he the same boy from the dinner at your dad's place?" Brad asked.

Jessica nodded, smiling.

"Oh. He is a gentleman. And a doctor too, right?"

Jessica nodded.

"That's lovely. I would like to meet him again." Brad said, making me look at him. "You know what, tell him about the family vacation happening in Fiji."

The fuck is he doing?

"Fiji?" Jessica and Alex asked in unison.

"Yes. Your uncles and I have picked the venue for our family vacation, right, man?" Brad asked me.

I hummed slightly.

"And Fiji is where you picked?" Alex asked.

"What's wrong with it?" Brad asked.

Alex scoffed.

"Fiji sounds great," Jessica said, making her look at her. She is staring at Alex with a smile.

I guess she likes it.

"No. Pick another place, Dad." Alex said.

"No can't do. Fiji it is. So, Jessica, honey. Tell your boyfriend he is welcome to join us."

"Brad, seriously," I said, making him look at me.

"What?"

"It is called a family vacation for a reason. Why invite a stranger?"

"It's her boyfriend, man. You have seen the boy. He is a gentleman. There is no harm in inviting him, right?" he asked Jessica.

She nodded.

I scoffed internally.

"Your nurse friend is welcome as well. You medical practitioners look like you need a vacation away from all the stress here." Brad said.

Jessica smiled. "Thank you, uncle."

"Anything for my favorite niece," Brad said, smiling too.

"How sweet, Dad. You must be feeling like a very proud uncle right now." Kendra chipped in, making Brad heave a sigh. "Well since you are leaving, Uncle Xavier. I will need a ride to my mom's fashion house."

I looked at her.

She raised her brows.

"What happened to your car?" Alex asked.

"It is bad. I came here with an Uber. Thanks for asking." she said, averting her eyes from him and resting them on me.

"How bad is your car? I will call a guy to help with it." Brad said.

"Mom will help me with it. Just focus on your little favorite niece, okay?" Kendra said, faking a smile, and moved her eyes to me.

"Can we go now?" she asked.

I stared at her.

She raised her brows again.

"Sure"

"Cool," she said, walking past me.

I moved my eyes to Jessica.

She is showing Brad something on her phone and smiling.

Brad is smiling too.

I scoffed internally.

Wow.

"Later, Brad."

"Yeah," Brad said. Barely sparing me a look.

I stared at Jessica one last time. She is busy with her phone and Brad.

Like I am not even present.

"Bye, unc," Alex said.

"Yeah," i sad, forcing my feet and heading outside the ward.

I got to the Elevator with Kendra and we got in. The door closed and we began going down.

I stared at the moving numbers as Jessica's words repeated in my head.

"Uncle Brad might not be my real uncle like you but he is more than a real uncle."

"Yes. He has been nothing but good and nice to me ever since I have known him. Unlike some demons who have been nothing but horrible people to me all my life."

She called me a Demon. That's all I am to her.

Nothing but a demon.

Those her words.

I have no idea why it is bothering me.

I barely care about things like this.

I have heard worse.

Being called a demon shouldn't mean anything to me.

This is stupid. I have better things to be bothered about.

I took out my phone and moved to my texts.

We got to the down floor and I walked ahead, dialing Jason's number and heading towards the entrance. I got out and headed for my car as his line rang.

I grabbed the driver's seat door and opened it.

Only for it to be slammed closed instantly by someone.

I looked at the person.

It was Kendra.

She is glaring at me while blocking my door she just closed it with her hand.

I stared at her with slightly furrowed brows.

"What's up?" Jason's voice came through. "Are you close by?"

I kept staring at Kendra.

She is still glaring at me.

"Xavier?" Jason called. "You there?"

"Let me call you back," I said, hanging up before he could say anything. I lowered my phone while still staying at Kendra.

"What is the meaning of this, Kendra?"

She scoffed, standing up straight and folding her hands while staring at me.

"So this is what we are doing now huh? Ignoring me?"

"The passenger seat is the other way."

She scoffed. "So you are really ignoring me huh?"

I heaved a sigh, looking away momentarily.

"You are ignoring me."

"Listen, Kendra. I really need to be at the company in less than twenty minutes so please go to the....."

"Are you fucking Jessica too?"

I froze.
