Chapter 68 Little Nurse
JESSICA
"We just came from the pool," Ms. Ximena said. "She is not the only one in a bikini.
"Right. But she is the only one without a fucking towel," he said.
I looked at the others. They all have their towels except me.
God, he is right. I forgot my towel outside.
"She forgot her towel," Sofia spoke up.
I looked at him. His eyes are on me.
I lowered my gaze, feeling uneasy at his gaze.
Why does it look like he is pissed at me?
"Yeah, we were running from the rain. It is not a big deal, uncle." Mica said.
"What, you lost your memory now?" he asked, making me look at him.
He is looking at me.
"Why are you the only one who forgot her towel, huh?!"
My heart pounded as I opened my mouth to speak....
"This is not New York City, Jessica." he snapped, making my heart ache.
I looked at the girls momentarily, feeling the mixture of hurt and embarrassment from being scolded like a kid.
"Couldn't you wait till you get back before being fucking disrespectful?" he asked.
I heard mutters from the girls.
"I wasn't being disrespectful. I...."
"Go to your fucking room right now and put something on, you look fucking annoying!"
I felt a sting in my heart as I heard scoffs of disbelief from the girls.
My shaky hands fiddled with the cap in my hand as I walked past him.
"And get ready. We are leaving this fucking place tomorrow." I heard him say as I headed towards the stairs.
"No era necesario, Xavier. No tenías que ser grosero con la pobre chica."
("That wasn't necessary, Xavier. You didn't have to be rude to the poor girl.") I heard Ms. Ximena say.
"No veo cómo eso es asunto tuyo, Ximena. Preocúpate por tu increíble vida y por tus hijas malcriadas."
("I don't see how that is your business, Ximena. Worry about your amazing life and your spoiled daughters" ) I heard him say, followed by footsteps walking away.
"Ódiame todo lo que quieras. Deja a mis hijas fuera de esto. Ellas no te han hecho nada."
("Hate me all you want. Leave my daughters out of this. They haven't done anything to you.")
I walked along the hallway as tears flowed. I got to the room door, I opened it, and walked in.
I closed the door, letting out sobs as I ran to the bed. I lay on my back, sobbing.
"Go to your room right now and put something on. You look fucking annoying!"
I let out more sobs, feeling my heart clench as I covered my face with my palm.
The kiss filled my head.
I lowered my palm, sniffling.
I turned, sitting up and resting my back on the headboard. I folded my arms, staring at the room without paying attention.
I don't understand why he hates me so much.
What did I do?
He has never liked me. Even when I was little, he usually gave me a cold shoulder.
It got worse as I grew.
What did ever do to him?
I closed my eyes, making tears flow.
If he isn't calling me a kid, he is calling me annoying. Always scolding me.
He prefers Kendra. For God's sake, Kendra and I are the same age.
But he treats her more like an adult than he treats me.
Don't forget he ditched my party and went to hers.
He gave her huge flowers and a gift promise.
My heart tightened severely as more tears flowed.
It is always different when it comes to me. Like I am plaque.
I hate it.
I hate everything.
I covered my face with my palms, sobbing silently.
I lowered my hands, wiping my nose as I recalled the kiss.
He didn't remember the first and reluctantly did the second.
I am just.....dirt to him, right?
That's all I am to him.
I sniffle, putting down my legs.
My eyes rested on my coat on the closet knob. The paper in my pocket was poking out.
Mom's letter.
I wiped my face, getting on my feet and walking towards the closet.
I took out the letter, staring at the word, 'mom' written on the letter as I walked back to the bed.
I sat on it, still staring at the word.
I couldn't open this letter since she gave it to me. It's the fear of getting to the bitter truth.
That I am not really her daughter and she didn't mean to lie to me.
I don't want to read that.
But I have to. The truth is the truth. I just have to accept it somehow.
I let out a sigh, bracing myself.
What else? It will just add to my pain right now.
Then I will cry it out.
I opened the envelope and took out the letter. Opening it, her familiar handwriting greeted my eyes.
"Honey, my beautiful princess,"
More tears approached my eyes.
"I am sorry you had to witness that. He was drunk and saying nonsense. Trust me, sweetie, I gave birth to you. I am ready to prove it however you want me to."
My heart reacted.
"You are a nurse. You can come to the hospital, you can take a strand of my hair, my blood, urine, poo anything, sweetie!"
I let out a chuckle as my heart felt a tiny relief.
"Anything you can use and run a DNA test. You will see that I am your mother. I am your true mother, baby. You brought so much light into my life the night I pushed you out of me."
Tears rolled down my face.
"Please don't be mad at me for so long. Let me see you, it's been days. You are not taking my calls either. I am worried sick. I am so sorry. Let mommy see you. LOVE, YOUR MOM."
I let out a sigh, regretting not reading this letter sooner.
Gosh, she must be more than worried right now. Not being able to reach me or find me at the hospital.
Uncle said we are leaving tomorrow. I will go and see her the minute we land.
She.......
A knock came on my door, taking my attention as it opened.
"Jess, hey," Sofia said, walking in with Mica.
"Hey," I said, placing the letter under my pillow while staring at them as they approached. They have clothes in their hands.
"How are you doing?" Sofia asked, placing her hand on my shoulder as she sat next to me and Mica sat next to her.
I lowered my gaze, nodded.
"I am good," I said, looking at them. "I am used to his scolds."
Sofia's shoulders fell.
Mica scoffed. "With the tears in your eyes, I doubt that."
I lowered my gaze.
"Listen, Jessica," Mica said.
I looked at her.
"The next time he speaks to you like that, show him you are an adult and not a kid, got it?"
"Mica,"
"No Sofia, he shouldn't speak to her like that. She is not a kid. You are a grown woman, Jessica. Don't let him keep treating you like that." she urged with all seriousness.
She is right. I need to step up.
I will need help doing that.
"Best you ignore him, Jess," Sofia said, caressing my hair.
Mica scoffed. "Hell no. Listen to my advice, Jessica. You keep ignoring that man and letting him treat you like trash, he will never stop. Trust me."
I nodded slightly.
"Good. Here are fresh clothes for tonight." Mica said, placing the clothes in my hands.
"Thank you,"
"You are welcome," Sofia said. "Remember we have to bake tonight."
I nodded.
"I am an exception. I have a date with Dario tonight."Mica said, getting on her feet.
Sofia scoffed. "Seriously?"
"What?" Mica shrugged.
"Dario, that annoying nerd?"
"Yes, Dario. Not annoying nerd. I like him the way he is."
"Oh good God," Sofia said, making a face.
"Shut up, Sofia," Mica said, moving her eyes to me and smiling. "See you later, Jessica"
"Later," I said as she headed out.
"I will tell mom," Sofia sang.
"Be my guest," Mica sang, walking out the door.
Sofia turned to me. "Sorry about my uncle."
I smiled slightly.
"I have a lot about him but I didn't think he was this rude."
"Well, not to everyone," I said.
He is nice to Alex and super nice to Kendra.
"Hmm. Just ignore him and let's have fun baking. It is your last night here." she said, chuckling.
I smiled.
"Why don't you start the baking now. It will be dark soon you know."
I nodded. "That's a good idea."
"Cool. Come on," she said, getting on her feet. "Get dressed and let's go. It will definitely cheer you up."
It sure will.
HOURS LATER....
NIGHT HOURS.....
Descending the stairs dressed in my matching nightwear from Mica and Sofia, I took in the quietness and calmness of the mansion.
It is past midnight and I am sure everyone is long gone in their sleep.
But here I am, barefoot, hair tied in a messy bun, and a matching nightwear that is really exposing.
The top is short, almost like a crop top with spaghetti sleeves and the shorts are just.....well shorts.
Way above my mid-thighs.
I just need a midnight snack. Juice or something.
I couldn't sleep. It happens whenever I venture into marathon baking as I did a few hours ago with Sofia. My body finds it difficult to go to sleep.
The baking was fun though. It got my mind off things but made me think of my mom.
I only bake with her.
I really miss her.
I can't wait to see her tomorrow.
I walked into the kitchen, turned on the lights, and walked towards the fridge.
I opened it, feeding my eyes with the goodies in it again.
Lots of goodies.
Oh, geez chocolates.
Oreos and......
Okay okay, juice first. No junk food.
I reached for the glass jug, took it out, and closed the fridge.
I would go towards the island and place it on it.
I moved towards the counter close to the fridge and grabbed a glass cup.
I attempted to walk back to the island when......
"What are you...."
"Ah!" The glass fell out of my hand, shattering on the floor instantly.
He scoffed as I placed my hand on my recovering heart as I looked at him.
Uncle Xavier.
He is standing there, dressed in a black tank top and black sweatpants with his hands in his pockets.
God, he startled me.
"You literally did it. You broke the damm glass. How lovely."
"I....i...I am sorry. I didn't mean to.... I..."
"I guess the clumsiness is forever, isn't it, Jessica?"
I looked around and spotted a broom.
I quickly took a step and regretted it instantly.
"Watch it!"
"Ow!" The glass pierced under my feet, squeezing in pain.
"Great. Just great."
I winced, raising my feet slightly. Blood filled the floor.
Oh God.
"Mind taking more steps so you can learn perfectly?" he asked, making me look at him momentarily.
I rested my eyes on my bleeding feet, ignoring his heartless sarcasm.
What else did I expect from him?
He would love to leave me here to bleed.
So much for a midnight juice.
There could be a first aid kit around here, right?
I heard a sigh from him.
"Don't move," he said, making me look at him.
