Chapter 39 Sinful Want
JESSICA
I moved my hand in my bag, searching for my phone and I found it.
I didn't forget again. Why is he....
The entrance door opened, taking my attention.
"Dad is home!" David squealed as he and Mom walked out of the house.
"Honey, you are back." Mom said, descending the few stairs, and walked towards me as David ran towards the gate.
"Careful, David." Mom said as she cupped my cheeks.
"Hey sweetie," she said with a smile.
"Hi, Mom. Where is David going? Who is at the gate?"
She chuckled, placing her hand on my shoulders. "It's your dad. I told you he was on his way."
"Dad?"
"Yes,"
I looked at the gate as it opened on its own and a very expensive car drove in.
Dad was driving it.
The gate closed and Dad pulled up.
"Mom, whose car is...."
"Dad!" David squealed happily, making me look in his direction.
He is hugging dad who is now out of the car.
"Hey, buddy," Dad said happily, picking David up.
"Honey," Mom called, walking past me and towards Dad as he approached with David.
"Hey, baby," Dad said with a smile. They shared a kiss and hugged.
His eyes moved to me.
I shifted a bit.
"Welcome home, Dad."
"Thank you." he simply said, returning his eyes to Mom.
"Is this it?" Mom asked, gesturing at the car.
"Yep." He said, putting David down.
"Really?"
"Yes, sweetie. We are back. I am rich again." he said, making my heart light up.
"Oh my God!" Mom squealed happily, hugging him.
"Congratulations Dad," I said.
He nodded as Mom unwrapped him and cupped his face.
"This is good news, honey. Congratulations." Mom said happily.
"Congratulations, Dad!" David squealed.
"Thank you, Champ," Dad said, giving David his palm.
David gave him a high five.
Mom chuckled.
I stood there, staring at them as my thoughts pictured them as a perfect family without me.
My heart clenched instantly.
God, what am I thinking?
I need to stop harboring these thoughts.
They are my family.
"Let's go in and have dinner. I made something special for everyone." Mom said, smiling at me.
I smiled too.
"Come," she said, taking Dad's hand.
"Why don't we go out for dinner instead?" Dad's said, stopping us in our tracks.
"Out?" Mom asked.
"Yay, I want to go out!" David squealed.
Mom chuckled. "Uh no. I made a very good dinner."
"I know, sweetie," Dad said, taking her two hands. "Let's just go out in my new ride and celebrate my comeback. Do you want to celebrate?"
"I do. That's why I made dinner." Mom said.
"I know. Let's go. You, David, and I, Come on."
I furrowed my brows as he led the way.
"Yay!" David squealed happily as Dad took his hand.
Mom scoffed. "What about Jessica?"
Dad looked at her and then at me.
I stared at him.
"Aren't you taking her too?" Mom asked.
"Someone has to take care of the house, right?" He asked, making my heart ache a bit.
Mom scoffed. "Seriously, Leo?"
Dad heaved a sigh.
"You are really not taking her along?"
"We can't leave the house empty, Carmen." Dad retorted.
I opened my mouth to speak but....
Mom scoffed. "If you are not taking all of us then I suggest we stay back and eat the beautiful dinner I made."
"Carmen, please don't start."
"What do you mean don't start? You are...."
"You don't want to celebrate your husband's success. I don't get it." Dad retorted
"What do you mean?!"
"It's okay, Mom. I will stay back." I chipped in. " You have to celebrate with Dad."
"No." Mom said, walking towards me.
"We have to go together. Or we stay back." Mom said, looking at Dad with all seriousness.
Dad huffed. "This is ridiculous." He muttered, turning to his car.
I held mom's hand, making her look at me.
"It's okay, Mom. I am tired anyway. I have been working for hours. I need to rest."
"See? She just got back from work. Let her rest." Dad said, making Mom look at him and I lowered my gaze.
"Let's just go already," Dad said and I sensed him taking David to the backseat of the car.
I looked at my mom.
"Honey, they can go. You and I can stay and eat your favorite meal I made together." She said, caressing my cheek.
I smiled and held her hand on my cheek.
"I will eat it. Dad wants to take you out. Please go with him. We can't afford to make him unhappy on his success day."
She stared at me with some kind of emotion.
I faked a yawn to be more convincing but it was replaced with a real one.
I am really tired.
"I am so tired," I said, covering my mouth.
She heaved a sigh. "Alright, honey. Eat and go to bed. I will get something nice, okay?"
I nodded.
She kissed my forehead.
I smiled at her.
She smiled too before walking towards the car.
Dad was holding the passenger seat door for her.
I watched as Mom got in and Dad closed the door. He walked towards the driver's seat without sparing me a look.
He got in and drove backwards.
I waved at them as they drove out of the compound.
I suppressed the pain in my heart and the absurd thought of being an unwanted guest in my own family.
Shaking my head, I head into the house.
AN HOUR LATER.....
JESSICA'S ROOM.....
I walked out of my bathroom dressed in my yellow nightgown. I massaged my face with my face lotion as I walked towards my laptop.
I sat at the desk and let out a sigh as I opened my laptop.
An hour has passed and my family is not back yet.
It should be bothersome to be in this house alone but it is not the first or second time.
Neither is it the third.
I hope they are having a good time. David might be filling up his face with chocolates and ice cream. He will have to deal with me when he comes back.
I am happy for Dad. Things have changed for him. He is back on his feet.
I hope he won't be grumpy anymore and not....be hard on me.
Oh well, my belly is filled with my mom's delicious meal. I am glad I didn't go with them. I would have been full from a restaurant meal.
There won't be space for mom's meal.
And I would regret it.
Her meal is the best.
I stared at some cake pictures on my laptop screen, trying to pick an idea of the kind of cake Alex's friend would like for his birthday.
I haven't gotten the birthday party date yet but I want to prepare myself ahead.
I am going to give it my best.
I relaxed in my seat, staring at my laptop.
I rubbed my eyes, yawning tiredly.
I closed my laptop and got on my feet. I walked towards my bed and got under the duvet.
I stared at the ceiling, recalling the kids again.
I stirred to the side, staring at the wall as I thought about the second kiss.
The way he held me closer and tighter.
The way he grabbed my butt.
I shut my eyes, trying to kick out the memory.
I opened my eyes and bit my lips.
I never thought my first kiss would be a very possessive one.
It was something else.
Then the grab.
God, the sinful way he grabbed my butt.
Everything.
I heaved a sigh.
Will I ever get this memory out of my head?
The more I think about it the more I add to my sins.
I literally went for confession not too long ago.
What am I going to do?
And I can't go for confession again because the priest knows me. He knows us.
He knows Uncle Xavier.
How will he look at me after I tell him?
I will get into serious trouble.
And to worsen things, Uncle Xavier doesn't remember that he kissed me.
I sat up and rested my back on my headboard, not feeling sleepy anymore but staring at nowhere in particular.
I need to stop thinking about this.
I hugged my knees as I struggled with my thoughts.
Next, my door was kicked open, making me jump in terror and revealing the last person I expected to see at my door frame.
And in our house.
"Un.... uncle Xavier?"
