Chapter 107 Cabin
Chapter 107 Cabin
JESSICA
I turned to him. "You can't order me around."
"Well, you have no choice," he said sternly, making me uneasy.
He began approaching me.
My feet begged to move but I held them still as he kept approaching.
I opened my mouth to speak but he stood almost a step away but in front of me.
"We are sticking together whether you like it or not," he said sternly.
I gulped, still feeling uneasy and weird underneath as his familiar scent hit my nose.
"Now, follow me," he said, walking past me.
I let out a breath, rubbing my arm.
I shook my head, confused about the weird feeling.
Sighing, I followed him behind.
HOURS LATER.......
I scratched my arm as we walked side by side.
It's been forever and we haven't found our way back to the stupid resort.
I am tired.
My legs are aching from walking.
And I am hungry!
I hate this!
I just want to be back at the resort with my mom and little brother.
God, please help me!
I looked at Uncle Xavier as I walked.
He raised his phone for the umpteenth time, looking for a signal.
I heaved a sigh as I faced my way.
Next, my belly made a sound, making my cheeks heat up.
Oh gosh.
I am starving!
It groaned again.
I hugged my belly as I stared at the dry ground while I walked.
"You should have taken the pears," he spoke up.
I flickered my eyes at him.
"I told you. I can't eat unwashed fruits. It is unhealthy." I said without looking at him.
He scoffed. "There is no water around. In situations like this, you need to do anything to survive no matter the circumstance. Like, eat the fucking fruit."
I looked away, rolling my eyes.
Next, I heard the sound of a wrap, making me furrow my brows.
"Here, "
I looked at him. He is extending a chocolate snack to me.
I stared between the snack and him.
Where did he get that?
"I forgot I left it in my pocket earlier this morning. You can have it."
I looked at the snack again, gulping as my taste buds begged for mercy.
"Go on," he urged.
I attempted to turn away. "I don't think I....."
He grabbed my hand and placed the snack in it, making me freeze.
I moved my eyes from the snack to him.
"Eat it," he ordered.
I felt a reaction underneath instantly, making me gulp.
He released my hand gently, holding my gaze, and walked past me.
I let out a breath, moving the strand of my hair behind my ear. I looked at him.
He is walking ahead.
I looked at the snack, feeling my taste buds growing desperate.
I opened the wrap and pushed out the chocolate. I took a bite, causing my taste buds to dance.
The sweetness melted on my tongue. I took in more and chewed.
"We need to find shelter. It will be dark soon," he said, making me look at him.
He is busy with his phone, raising it again.
Oh my God, it is getting dark.
I can't believe we stayed here till now.
"Let's keep going," he said, taking a step ahead.
"Um don't you think it is best we go back to the tree I dropped on earlier?" I asked, making him turn to me.
"Huh?"
"The paraglider is still there. Catherine and the paraglider team must have found it while looking for me." I said, still feeling the tasty chocolate around my teeth and tongue.
"You really think they are there as we speak?"
"Yes."
He raised his brows.
"Kind of," I added.
"We have been roaming these woods for hours. I am sure they are not there," he said, turning. "Let's keep going."
"But can't we at least try?"
He stopped in his tracks, heaving a sigh.
"You can't be a hundred percent sure they are not there," I said as he turned to me.
"I am a hundred percent sure, Jessica."
"But....."
"I don't even know the way back," he retorted.
I stared at him.
"Do you?"
God, I don't
"We both don't. Now come on. I will try to get us back but we need to find shelter before nightfall," he said, walking ahead.
I looked behind me, feeling the need to cry.
This is so not happening to me.
Next, the sky rumbled, making me look up.
My heart picked up.
Oh no.
It is about to rain.
"Come on," Uncle took my attention. I followed him, heading towards an unknown direction as usual.
I wonder if he knows where we are going or is he guessing?
I began to pour.
"Oh no,"
"We need a huge tree or something," he said as we began running.
The weather was adding up, getting colder and the cloud is getting darker.
My hair and body are wet.
"It is getting heavier!" I said out loud in between the loud rain.
"Hang on!" He said, taking my hand as we took a path.
We kept running, taking in the rain and muddy ground till we got to a stop.
"Look," Uncle said, making me look at him.
"Over there," he pointed.
I looked in the direction and I saw what looked like a cabin a bit far from us and standing alone in what seemed to be a field.
"I think it is a cabin," Uncle said.
I stared at the place. It is dark, got no light but the full moon is igniting it. I mean that is how we located it.
"Let go," he said, dragging me along.
"But do you think it is safe? What if there is someone in there or something?!" I yelled out as we kept running.
"Let's hope they are kind enough to help us with shelter!"
Not long later, we got to the cabin. Uncle didn't hesitate but began knocking.
"Hello?"
My heart pounded as I fiddled with my fingers while staring at him.
He knocked again. Actually, he banged on the door.
"Anyone in there? We need your help please."
"I...I am not okay with this." I stuttered, making him look at me.
"What if there is a dangerous person in there?" I whispered.
"What? You are imagining things," he said, knocking again.
"I have seen a lot of horror movies. They..."
"Those are not real. They're just for entertainment, okay?" He said, knocking again.
"You don't understand," I whispered again. "I think we should leave."
He reached for the knob and the door opened, making me freeze as he looked at me.
Oh God.
"It is open." He said, smiling as if he had just achieved something huge.
I shook my head.
"Come on," he said, opening the door further and causing it to whine.
"Unc...." I paused as he walked in.
I looked around, taking in the rain and night and they added to my anxiety.
Oh God protect us.
May all the horror movies in the world, both the ones I have seen and not seen, may they not come to reality.
I beg you sweet baby, Jesus.
Get us out of here please!
"Hey," Uncle took my attention, making my heart drop.
"Come in already," he said.
I walked into the cabin reluctantly and he closed the door.
I scratched the back of my neck as he turned on his phone flashlight.
The place is spacious with nothing much but a bed, a worn-out couch, a counter attached to the wall with a candlestick on it, a table, and a chair in the middle of the room.
This is someone's place.
But where is the person?
I don't see anyone around here.
"This must be a summer cabin or something," Uncle said as I rubbed my arm while looking around.
"The owner must be coming here once in a while." He said, moving towards the bed. "But I bet he hasn't been here in a long time."
"H...how did you know that?" I asked.
"The counter is dusty and there are cobwebs around." He said, moving his flashlight around.
I spotted the cobwebs and dust.
"There must be a match around here," he said, walking towards the table. He took out the drawer and....
"Perfect," he said, taking out a match pack. He walked past me and towards the counter. He turned on the match and lit up the candle, igniting the place warmly.
BANG!
"Aah!" I shut my eyes, holding onto something tightly.
"Whoa," Uncle chuckled, making my heart drop.
"It's just a thunder clap," he said as I realized I was holding him.
I looked up at him.
He is staring down at me with a smile and I can feel his hands around me.
I quickly moved away from him, feeling my cheeks heating up as I tuned. I shut my eyes as regret filled me.
"I didn't know one could be this terrified about thunderclaps," he said.
"I am not terrified,"
BANG!
I flinched uncontrollably.
"Right," he said.
I heaved a sigh, moving the strand of my hair behind my ear.
"So....the candlelight will keep us warm. We have nothing to change into but stick to our way of clothes," he said, moving towards the bed.
I stared at him as he stared at the bed.
He looked my way.
I averted my eyes.
"There is only one bed," he said.
Okay. Be a gentle man and take the couch.
"Come on," he said, making me look at him.
"Excuse me?"
"Aren't you tired and sleepy?" he asked.
"I am but...."
"Let lay down then."
Wha.....
