Chapter 95 Returning the Key
Joseph grabbed the keys, gently shut the door, and walked out with purpose. The sunlight hit him, giving him that extra push to keep going. He headed towards the house he used to rent, his mind buzzing with future plans and goodbyes to the past.
He had set up a time with the landlord to return the keys at noon, officially ending his lease. Even though he felt a bit sad, after spending the whole day there yesterday, he was more excited about what was next. Thinking about it, he felt pretty lucky, and his steps were more confident, his gaze steady, and he even felt a bit grateful for the landlord's decision to have him move out.
When he got to his old place, Joseph looked around while waiting for the landlord. Every corner held memories. But as he embarked on his new life, he knew he'd cherish those memories while boldly stepping into the future.
Right at noon, the landlord showed up. Joseph saw her and immediately smiled warmly, making the atmosphere friendly.
The landlord looked at the clean, tidy room, clearly impressed. She said, "Joseph, you've always been reliable and taken great care of the place. I'm really grateful. I'm sorry for making you move out because of my own issues."
Joseph quickly shook his head and smiled, "No need to apologize. I get it. Plus, you helped me out a lot with the rent and took good care of me. I remember when I was sick, you brought me medicine, and when it rained heavily, you closed my window. I really appreciate all that."
The landlord looked a bit guilty but also relieved. She said, "You're very understanding. No matter where you go, you'll do well. You're also a victim here, but... never mind, take care. If you need anything, just text me. It's my fault this time."
Joseph said gratefully, "Thank you. You take care too. If I get the chance, I'll come back to visit."
Then, he handed the keys to the landlord. This small act marked his official departure from the place he once called home. The keys seemed to carry all the past memories and stories, and now, they had done their job.
The landlord smiled kindly as she put the keys away. She looked at Joseph with a hint of concern. "I'll leave now. Check again to see if you left anything. Just close the door when you leave."
Joseph nodded, "Okay. Goodbye." His words were filled with respect and gratitude.
The landlord smiled, waved, and left. Joseph stood there, watching her go. He knew this wasn't just a simple goodbye but an emotional farewell to the space he had lived in.
As her footsteps faded, he started packing the last of his stuff. He carefully packed everything, making sure he didn't leave anything behind. Among his things were books, clothes, and some small trinkets, each holding memories of his time there.
Moments later, Joseph neatly stacked the packed boxes and bags by the door.
Once everything was packed, he did a final sweep of the room. He checked every corner, from the bedroom closet to the living room bookshelf, to the kitchen cabinets, making sure he didn't leave anything behind. He even checked all the drawers and lifted the sofa cushions.
After that, Joseph took one last look around the familiar space. This place had seen him grow and change, and each memory tugged at his heart.
Then he slowly walked to the door and gently closed it. The soft click of the door felt like a goodbye to the past and the start of a new chapter.
Joseph grabbed his luggage, took a deep breath, and steadied his emotions. He knew that even though he was leaving this home, the memories would always stay with him. With hope for the future and gratitude for the past, he walked towards the elevator with determined steps.
As the elevator descended, Joseph's heart filled with anticipation. He knew that every ending was just the start of something new, and he was ready for it. When the elevator doors opened, he stepped out into the warm sunlight.
The outside world was buzzing with energy, with busy streets and people rushing around. Joseph blended into the crowd, feeling the city's pulse.
On his way to his new place, he felt a deep sense of gratitude. He was thankful for Emily and James for welcoming him and giving him a new home.
He clenched his fists, silently cheering himself on, determined to find a job soon and not let down those who cared about him.
His steps felt heavy under the scorching sun as he carried his luggage. When he finally got home, he felt a wave of relief. His shirt was soaked with sweat, and his cheeks were flushed, but he still wore a satisfied smile.
Joseph took a deep breath and collapsed onto the sofa, feeling incredibly relaxed. He closed his eyes and rested for a while, letting the fatigue slowly fade away.
After a bit, Joseph got up from the sofa, picked up his luggage, and walked into his room. He unpacked his stuff, organizing everything neatly, which gave him a sense of accomplishment. He liked the feeling of order and control.
Once he was done, he grabbed a clean set of clothes and headed to the bathroom. He was ready for a good shower to wash away the day's sweat and fatigue. The bathroom mirror reflected his image, and he smiled at himself before turning on the shower.
The warm water washed over him, taking away the sweat and tiredness. He felt an incredible sense of relaxation. Joseph closed his eyes, letting the water droplets dance on his skin, feeling the soothing flow. At that moment, he felt deeply satisfied and happy.
After the shower, Joseph changed into clean clothes, feeling refreshed. He walked out of the bathroom in a cheerful mood, ready to start his afternoon. Whether it was continuing his job search or enjoying the quiet afternoon, he knew he had a warm home waiting for him, with Emily and James by his side, making him feel incredibly secure and content.
