Chapter 292 Signs of Awakening

Chapter 292 Signs of Awakening

Dylan quickly followed his lead, trying to divert William's attention.

That seat had indeed been empty for a long time.

No one except Isabella had ever been allowed to sit there.

In this house, even though Isabella was gone, that seat would always be reserved for her.

"Mr. Dickson arranged a funeral for him."

"Although Mr. Mellon's family disagreed at first, Mr. Dickson convinced them."

"He was buried on that hillside."

William's eyelids twitched.

"Hillside?"

"Yes, the hillside," Dylan continued.

"Mr. Dickson, no, he's not a doctor anymore."

"He limps everywhere now, planting sunflowers across the whole slope. He's more like a cemetery caretaker these days."

After saying this, he felt regret, afraid of triggering William's guilt.

He quickly corrected himself. "But he moves around just fine and won't accept our help."

William looked up at Dylan, his bloodshot eyes showing no emotion.

"Cemetery keeper?"

"I'd say he's more like a farmer."

"But being a farmer isn't so bad."

William picked up a piece of beef and put it in his mouth, chewing numbly and mechanically.

Suddenly, without looking up, he said,

"I suddenly feel like drinking."

The butler nodded repeatedly. "I'll get it right away."

Dylan watched William. Seeing him eat another piece of beef, he slowly began to speak.

"The doctor said Juniper's body isn't in any condition for sex right now."

"Otherwise, it could not only cause a miscarriage but also severe abdominal bleeding."

"If there's abdominal bleeding, her life could be in danger."

William's utensils stopped moving.

He had only eaten two pieces of beef and already seemed full, no longer holding his utensils.

He calmly listened to Dylan's report, looking toward the two cages in the distant corner.

"That's actually good news."

A smile finally appeared on his face.

But his tone was still weak.

As the butler poured half a glass of red wine, William picked up the glass and asked again,

"Is there any chance Isabella's father will wake up?"

Dylan told William everything he had learned at the hospital.

Actually, Benjamin had shown signs of waking up for a while now.

The caregiver looking after Benjamin had noticed that during the day, Benjamin's fingers would move slightly.

But it only lasted a few seconds each time.

Whenever the caregiver called the doctor over, Benjamin would return to his old state.

It was as if the finger movement had been the caregiver's imagination.

Recently, his heart rate had returned to normal.

Yesterday, he briefly woke up for thirteen seconds, then fell back asleep.

The hospital doctors estimated that within about two weeks, Benjamin might fully wake up.

William listened to Dylan's report, lifting his wine glass for a sip.

As the alcohol went down his throat, suddenly his chest trembled, and he coughed up blood.

It fell into the wine glass, mixing with the red wine.

"Mr. Spencer..."

"I'll get a doctor right away; they must have a solution."

William suddenly threw the wine glass to the floor.

Shattered glass flew everywhere, red wine spilling across the ground.

William's low voice came through.

"Dylan, you're becoming more and more disobedient."

"I told you not to make decisions on your own."

"Don't forget who's in charge here."

"Yes." Dylan lowered his head, unable to argue back.

Though he was deeply worried inside.

He was truly afraid that William would die right in front of him.

Dylan clearly remembered that the day Isabella died, the whole world changed color.

Although he had a feeling deep down that day would come eventually,

he still tried to avoid it, to delay its arrival.

The butler replaced the glass and poured fresh wine.

This time, William didn't drink, just raised his hand and wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth with the back of his hand.

He looked at the glass of wine and said quietly,

"Copy all the videotapes of those two women and put them on discs."

"Also, pack up that handheld video camera, too."

William looked up toward the outside of the villa.

"When he wakes up, these things will be his get-well gift."

A cruel smile appeared on William's face.

He couldn't wait to see what Benjamin would look like when he woke up.

He really wanted to see what Benjamin's face would look like after watching those tapes.

Dylan said nothing more, just took note of everything and followed William's orders.

William stood up, about to walk toward the cages, but suddenly stopped.

He thought for a moment, looked at Dylan, and said,

"Let's go to the hospital today."

Dylan's head snapped up, his eyes full of surprise.

"Great."

He thought William was going for treatment.

But when they arrived at their destination, Dylan realized William had no such intention.

William wasn't there to see a doctor, but to see someone.

When the hospital room door opened, Dylan noticed that all the curtains in Benjamin's room were drawn.

The room was somewhat dark. It turned out the caregiver they'd hired was sleeping on the job.

Because he found the sunlight too bright and disturbing his sleep, he had drawn the curtains.

When William pushed the door open, he didn't even look at the caregiver's face, just walked straight to the bed and stared at the old face with closed eyes.

"You really are like your wife."

"One plays dumb, one plays asleep."

"Yeah, what a clever trick. As long as you can't see or hear, naturally, there won't be any troubles."

The caregiver stood frozen to the side, not daring to breathe.

He thought he would be punished, but when William looked up, he gave him a smile instead.

"You're doing great."

"People like this deserve to die; there's no need to be so careful."

Benjamin, lying on the bed, still showed no reaction.

William continued, "If you're uncomfortable sleeping there, you can sleep on the floor." William turned to the caregiver and said, "Put this old man on the floor."

The caregiver shook his head repeatedly, eyes full of terror.

"Mr. Spencer, you can't say that."

"Please don't punish me, please don't fire me, I really need this job."

William smiled and shook his head.

"Do I really look that scary?"

"Why are your legs shaking?"

"Do you think I look like some kind of monster?"

The caregiver was speechless, not understanding why William, who had been all smiles just moments ago, was becoming increasingly stern.

But William changed his expression once again.

"I'm just joking with you. Why are you so scared?"

William turned to look at Dylan, continuing to ask,

"Dylan, do I really look that frightening?"

Dylan shook his head vigorously in denial.

"Mr. Spencer, you look perfectly normal. I don't find you frightening at all."
