CHAPTER 47

Noah.

I arrived at the hospital running like crazy, my breath coming in sharp gasps, panting heavily as I sprinted through the entrance. My screams and yelling could make the deaf hear me. The urgency of the moment fueled my every step, my heart racing faster than I thought possible, pounding against my ribcage as if trying to escape the confines of my body. My men were waiting for me, their faces etched with concern and urgency. This wasn’t one of my hospitals that I owned; however, the man who owned this place was waiting for me at this moment, surrounded by a group of consultant doctors who were prepared to explain to me what had happened. My men were everywhere, their presence a small comfort amidst the chaos.

Jacob rushed back to me, his expression a mix of worry and determination. My heartbeats were almost skipping pulses, feeling as if I were a dead person walking, trapped in a nightmare I couldn’t wake from. "Jacob, where's she? What happened? How're the kids?" I bombarded everyone in front of me with frantic questions, my voice rising with each inquiry, desperation clawing at my throat.

One of the doctors, dressed in a formal elegant suit that screamed authority, approached me with a calm demeanor that belied the chaos around us. He shook hands with me and said, “Mr. Noah, please calm down. Your wife is now in the hands of God and our surgical doctors; she’s in the operating room. Just calm down.” His voice was low but filled with a worried tone, as if he knew that I might snap and shut this whole operation down if anything happened to my wife. But I bit my tongue; I wouldn’t take any action, at least not yet. This was my vow: “God, please help her, and I swear I will quit my illegal business forever.”

Tears began to well up in my eyes, rolling down my cheeks for the first time in my life. I cried—yes, heavily. I hastened to the operation room and pleaded with the staff to allow me inside, but the doctors insisted that I wait outside, their faces grim and resolute.

I couldn't bear the thought of waiting. I knew I wouldn’t be able to see her between life and death, but I had to see her. This might be my last chance to gaze upon her beautiful face. ‘No, I will see her again. I will hug her. I will kiss her. I can't live without her.’ I snapped the dark thoughts from my head and pulled the doctor's collar. “Listen to me, I used to see blood. This is normal for me. She's my life. I want to get inside now,” I hollered in a threatening tone, my voice echoing in the stark hallway.

But God didn’t give him the chance to urge me to wait; instead, one of the nurses stormed out of the operating room, her face pale and frantic. “Please, we need A negative now. We are losing her,” she yelled, her voice trembling with urgency and fear.

Jacob rushed to us, his expression panicked. “I will try to find a donor now,” he said, moving quickly.

I blurted out confidently, “I'm O positive; I can donate to her.” Yes, O positive can give to anyone in emergencies, but it’s always preferred to be from the same blood type. “I'm positive; I will donate to her.”

I twirled my head to see who had spoken up, and to my surprise, it was a familiar voice. I widened my eyes to see that it was Steven. He nodded at me, assuring me, “Yes, I will give her my blood. But please, help Ahmet. He needs O positive. Please, Noah. Help him to survive. He saved Selena.” Steven begged me with eyes full of loyalty, but they were also filled with tears, mirroring my own anguish.

We were hopelessly entwined in this deep love for her, and that was painfully obvious. I nodded, wiping the tears from my cheeks with a slight smile. “Yes, sure. And thanks,” I managed to say through the storm of emotions swirling within me.

The nurse gestured for Steven to follow her. “Please come with me now, Mr. And please, Mr. Noah, go with the doctor to save Mr. Ahmet.” She informed both of us in a hurry, her voice urgent and clipped.

Everyone in this hospital was running around us as if it were rush hour. Their only mission was focused on saving and helping Selena and Ahmet. I was still puzzled and tormented by what had transpired. I wanted to kill myself for leaving her alone, to slap myself for not quitting my position as the king of the mafia family when she had asked me to do it.

I swore to God, if she survived, I would tell her all the truth about me. I would ask for her forgiveness. Anything for her. After I finished donating my blood to Ahmet and after Steven finished donating his blood to Selena—which felt strangely fated, as if our destinies were now intertwined—there was nothing more I could do with all my money and power except pray to God.

How could I pray, knowing very well that God wouldn’t listen to a killer and criminal like me? How funny life could be, and how cruel!

After a few torturous minutes of waiting outside the operating room, leaning against the cold wall, I felt time stretching infinitely. Finally, the doctors stepped outside with Ahmet on a gurney, their faces a mixture of relief and exhaustion. They smiled and informed us that the operation had succeeded, but he would remain at risk for 48 hours. If he passed that critical time, then he would be fine.

Steven thanked them and placed a gentle kiss on Ahmet's forehead, tears streaming down his face without any effort to stop them. Love is strange and confusing, I thought. I too cried, feeling like a baby afraid to lose his precious love.

The doctors and nurses asked Steven to wait because they wouldn’t let him in the intensive care unit yet. He patted me on the shoulder. “She will be okay, Noah,” he said, trying to reassure me.

I couldn’t handle it anymore. I hugged him breathlessly, my emotions spilling over. “I love her so much,” I sobbed, the weight of my feelings crashing down on me.

I was embracing my enemy, the very person I had once considered my rival. The one I had hated so much, yet he was the one who had done everything in his power to save my wife. And more than that, Ahmet had taken a bullet in his chest to protect Selena!

But I still wondered why they had left without the guards! It wasn't a good time to seek answers. Neither Selena nor Ahmet was conscious enough to tell me the truth.

After one long hour of agonizing waiting, the doctors finally stepped outside again, and one of them said, “You can go check on her now, Mr. Noah.” The doctor’s words felt like a lifeline, but I couldn’t read his facial expressions. He looked at me with a blank face, and I couldn’t decipher whether she was okay or not. What about our kids? Had something bad happened to them too?

I cleared my throat and hesitantly pushed open the door to her room. As I stepped slowly into the middle, my heart caught in my throat. There was my gorgeous wife, sleeping like an angel, our triplets nestled safely in the arms of the nurses.

I rushed to her side, kissing her gently on the lips. I knew she couldn't see me, but I couldn’t help myself. I showered her hands with kisses, whispering, “Thank God. Thank God. Selena, Selena.” I repeated her name, willing her to open her eyes and look at me, to hear her voice once more.

The doctor came from behind me and tapped my shoulder gently. “She’s fine now, Mr. Noah. She’s just sleeping. Your kids were delivered sooner; they will be in the nursery for a month. We will move her now to intensive care. You may go, and we will call you back when she regains consciousness,” the doctor explained, his voice steady and professional.

I shook my head immediately, refusing to accept this. “No, I'm staying here. I will wait for her,” I insisted, my voice firm.

“But—” he began, but I gritted my teeth, my gaze sharp enough to make him tremble and shiver in fear.

“Okay, Mr. Noah. As you like. If you would like to see your kids now, they will be in the nursery. You could watch them from outside the glass. They look adorable, by the way,” the doctor said, trying to coax me.

But I couldn’t tear my eyes away from Selena for even a second. The thought of looking at my kids felt so trivial compared to the urgency of being with her. At this moment, it felt completely right. I didn’t care about having a family or a wife or kids; I wanted children because I loved her, only her.

I watched helplessly as they moved her away from me into intensive care. My heart bled for her, but I was relieved that she would be okay. If I lost my kids, I wouldn’t die. But if I lost her, I would definitely be dead inside, a shell of the man I once was.

Steven was waiting for me outside the room. “Is she okay now?” he asked worriedly, his face drawn with concern.

I sighed and nodded, feeling a bit of relief. “Yes, but she will stay in intensive care. You can go now; I will be here for both Selena and Ahmet. He saved my wife after all. I will take care of him,” I informed Steven, and that was the truth. If something bad happened to Ahmet, Selena might get mad at me for not caring about him.

Steven ignored what I just said and sat down on a chair, patting the space next to him with a small smile. “Have a seat then. I'm not leaving. I’m staying with you. By the way, let’s buy this hospital,” Steven suggested, his tone light but serious.

But I couldn’t understand why he said that. My mind was almost numb from all the stress, and my heart was aching. I narrowed my eyes and gazed at him, curiosity piqued. “Why?” I asked, genuinely intrigued.

He crossed his arms over his chest and slumped in the chair, making himself comfortable. “Just in case. To honor her memory. You should name this hospital after her. Selena Hospital! How about that?” he raised an eyebrow, a hopeful glimmer in his eyes.

I chuckled softly, despite the heaviness of my heart. “Right, what a brilliant idea. And by that, she will hate me forever and blame me for what happened to her! Fuck you, Steven. I wish she could forget about this accident forever,” I mumbled, annoyance creeping into my voice.

Yes, I wished she could recover soon, but more importantly, I wanted her to forget this awful day forever. Only this day, nothing more.

He shrugged, unfazed. “Whatever. I’ll go and bring us coffee; we will be here for a very long time.”

But as he got up from his chair, he muttered, “By the way, Ahmet is not gay. I think he loved Selena.”

I wanted to ask him for more details, but I decided to delay that matter for now. I didn’t care about anything else but Selena. At least Ahmet had been there to save her life. If he hadn’t been in love with her, he wouldn’t have risked everything to rescue her. I needed to learn how to forgive and live peacefully with that knowledge.

Two grueling days passed, and I was utterly exhausted—not from lack of sleep or being awake for all those hours, but from the worry, heartaches, and the constant turmoil in my mind. I felt like death itself, and my life and breath would only return to me once Selena opened her eyes and smiled at me.

Suddenly, I spotted something strange as some nurses moved hurriedly past me. I stomped toward them, my heart racing. “What’s wrong?” I demanded, feeling a wave of anxiety wash over me. They exchanged nervous glances, avoiding eye contact with me.

I yelled, my voice rising, “What happened to Selena?”

They flinched at my tone, and one of them stuttered, “S-she's gone.”

“What the actual fuck?” I shrieked, disbelief coursing through me.

Where? How? Did someone kidnap her? I had almost asked my men to block all the gates of the hospital! What if she lost her memory? The questions swirled in my mind, panic setting in as I realized the gravity of the situation. I had to find her, no matter what it took.
