Chapter 7
I woke up to find myself in a hospital with some doctor speaking to Mr. Johnson and that aunt who forced me to bathe that day for the funeral. I think her name was Aunt Maggie or something like that as I could not remember, and my brain was still fuzzy.
"Nathan you're awake, I was really worried my boy." Mr. Johnson the lawyer said to me.
"How long have I been in here?" I said asking him.
"Only 2 days, apparently your body could not take the stress, not eating and dehydration. It shut off. Then the good doctors here fixed you back by giving it what it needs, water, food, and rest. You need to take proper care of yourself, young men." Aunt Maggie answered as if she cared but I was not buying it.
"Sure, so where is Claire?" I asked them wanting to see my love. I then saw them giving each other weird looks.
"Um well, an emergency occurred at her house, so she had to quickly go there after you fainted, and we haven't seen her since." Mr. Johnson answered with a strange look in his eyes.
"Oh, I hope everything at her house is alright as I don't want her to become too stressed for the baby," I said suddenly worried about her.
"I'm sorry to bring this up at a time like this, but the debt people are now demanding their money and your father's money has now been completely frozen. So, I need your signature so that we can start selling everything. And you also missed your father's trial yesterday he has sadly been sentenced to life in prison. And as a minor, you are now in the custody of Aunt Maggie your mother's sister here and will therefore be staying with her and her husband. "
I just took in the news and gave the lawyer Mr. Johnson my signature to go sell everything and make me poor. My fate had been sealed. Goodbye to Mr rich billionaire and hello to Mr. Bankrupt poor.
We went to the mansion in Mr. Johnson's car as I had to collect my things since the house was now readying to be sold.
I arrived and saw some relatives still there, most of them had probably left after hearing on the news that I was now bankrupt.
"You all know right, that right now I'm completely bankrupt so if you all still think there is still something to salvage, I'm sorry to say that there is nothing so please leave as this house has to be sold!” I said to them causing each to leave after glaring at me. Well, I did not bloody care.
I then packed everything of mine, my clothes, photographs, etc. I put my things in the car and went to say one last goodbye to my childhood home.
I walked into each room, relieving each good memory I once had with my parents. None of the servants came to say goodbye to me after I dismissed all of them even my bodyguards as I had never been friendly or nice to any of them. But to me, they were all traitors, after all, who had been providing them money to buy food and clothes.
I took one last look at the house as we left in Mr. Johnson's house from the garden where I first learned to walk with my father to the swimming pool I had my first swimming lesson as a child with my mother.
To think I once had it all and now I had nothing. But at least I still had Claire with a baby I could no longer be able to support, I thought to myself.
I was going to see her tomorrow as I truly really missed her.
As we started driving to Aunt Maggie's house, my eyes started widening at the kind of neighborhood we were now entering.
It was dirty, the houses looking hideous and the people walking the streets were so poor from their dirty ugly clothes. There were filthy beggars almost in every corner, oh how disgusting these people looked as if they haven't had a bath in years.
I almost hoped that this was not the neighborhood aunt Maggie lived and I could not, would not want to live in a place like this. But that hope was quickly dashed to pieces as to my horror I saw the car stop in front of one of those small filthy looking houses.
I then heard Aunt Maggie shouting, "Welcome to your new home." as she was going to unlock the door, that is if you could call that trash a door.
This could not be my new home, I thought now out of the car looking at it in horror.
The yard was too small, the walls looked hideous, with some of the paint peeling off and most of the windows had holes on them. What kind of place was this? Only hooligans lived in places like this.
"Nathan, look at me." Aunt Maggie said to me after noticing my look of horror at her house.
But I did not want to look at her, as seeing her face which looked similar to my mother her sister caused me too much sorrow.
"I know the house is a little on the lower level compared to the mansions you are used too, but you will be alright, and might even eventually get used to it. So, everything will be alright," she said to me with a small smile.
"Is it safe?" I said to her while unloading my expensive things as I saw some rough looking people staring at us while passing by the house.
"Yes, it is, as long as you don't get involved with the wrong people and gangs, young man," she replied to me.
I entered the house and I wish I could say it was better than the outside, but it was worse. The rooms were so tiny with the kitchen being in the same place as the dining room. This was so ridiculous.
She then showed me the tiny room that I was going to be sleeping in. The furniture was so dirty and ugly from the bed to the curtains. I then tried to sit on the bed, and it was so damn uncomfortable that I could feel the wire springs inside, maybe sleeping on the floor would be better. I thought to myself. Worse I had to share the same toilet with everyone in the house as there was only one toilet in the house.
After packing my clean expensive things, the clothes, electronics, and toiletry into this disgusting room I then went to see Aunt Maggie cooking something in the kitchen/dining room.
I sat on the squishy uncomfortable sofa that had a hole in it watching her cook. I then turned on the little TV and got bored as there was no dstv connected. How did she even live?
So, I took my iPad and looked through my social networks only to be shocked to see how almost all my friends and crew had all unbefriended me, leaving me almost friendless on Facebook. This could not be right I thought to myself as even my 2 best friends Kelvin and Henry had also done the same.
What kind of friends had I befriended in my life, ones who did not come to even cheer me up or support me in my toughest time even after all the large sums of money I had spent on them? The trips, cars, gifts, and free parties. It meant nothing to them as no one was even replying to me and talking to me, they were all ignoring me even though they knew I could see they were online.
"I freaking hate you all!" I posted on my page then logged out.
After angrily turning off my iPad I then sat there on the sofa thinking of how stuffed up my life had become. I was now also actually friendless. All my friends have deserted me, and I was also now stuck in this hell hole.
Aunt Maggie then started serving the food and to my dislike, it was those cheap tasteless noodles. She gave me the plate, I wanted to refuse but my stomach started making a noise complaining of hunger, so I ended up accepting the plate.
The noodles surprisingly actually tasted good to my surprise or maybe it was the hunger. Don't really know. I finished the whole plate and gave it to Aunt Maggie who started washing the plates.
I then decided to go visit Claire, so I asked Mr. Johnson to borrow his car as he was still here busy making some calls to sell the things and pay off my mother's debt.
He said yes and gave me the Keys but told me to hurry up as he would be leaving soon.
I then drove to Claire's house in the mice suburbs which was a breath of fresh air, compared to that filthy neighborhood I was living in.
I arrived and since the gatemen knew me, he let me in immediately. Her parents were average rich with her father being a lawyer and her mother a doctor, so their house was decent.
I unlocked the door and entered in as I knew where the key was put, under the mat since I usually came to see Claire here. No one was in but I knew Claire usually stayed in her room, so I climbed the stairs going there to see her. I could not wait as I had truly missed her these past three days and longed to see her beautiful face again. Plus, she was the only thing I now had left in my life to treasure plus our child.
I slowly opened her bedroom door only to be shocked senseless by what I saw...
