Chapter Forty Nine
Clive continued. " The nun that came to my house with the nurse was my doing too. I had her go there because I knew she'd scare you. Because she looks just like that nanny that had caused you so much harm. I wanted her to scare you. And I wanted the truth to be revealed in front of my mother. So you could lose another mother you thought you had gained."
Clive didn't stop there. " My master move would have been to leave you. Leave you on our wedding night. Because that would have caused the greatest pain imaginable. Because I would have taken everything you ever wanted. The family and the love you've ever yearned for away in blink of an eye. And then I would have gotten my revenge. "
" Then why didn't you go? At our wedding night why did you stay this long? Why did you have to make love to me? And why come back now if you planned to leave in the first place?"
"Because ." Clive turned around to face David. His eyes covered with tears. " I actually fell in love. Against my own self I actually fell in love."
David was speechless. He didn't know what to say. He had never imagined that Clive would say something like this. "But... but you hated me. You said you never wanted to see me again."
"I was wrong." Clive said again. "I was wrong about so many things. I didn't know how much I could love someone. I didn't know how deep my feelings could go. Until I met you. Until I saw you."
The flashback ended there. Again now David and Clive were looking at each other in the car.
"We tried to make it work. But it didn't. " Clive told David. " That's why I actually left. That's why I left without saying goodbye. Because it would have been too much for me if I saw you. Plus I thought that was what we both needed a change from each other. We could only cause pain to each other anyway. I mean who in their right mind falls in love with the one that killed his wife and child huh? " He smiled sadly at David. " I wanted you and I to only see each other as strangers that we were. As people who didn't know each other. Maybe then we would heal individually."
David looked at Clive confidently. "And did we? Did we actually heal?" His left eye started to have a tear that quickly dropped down. " I actually tried to move on! Tried to make another family. I met a woman. You know her I guess. May June. A beautiful woman that is also kind hearted. I thought I could forget you. Forget we ever united. That we ever fell in love. Or even ever met. But I couldn't. I couldn't be happy. Instead I became more miserable. And I made those around me miserable too. I made May hate me. The child we had together doesn't know me. Because of my horrible deeds. Now Clive I'll tell you right now. And I'll be honest with you. I'm not happy. I'm not healed. But I really want to be. And I figured that the only way that's gonna be possible it's gonna have to be you and me who actually achieve that. It's gonna have to ne you and me who decide that we love each other enough to try again. To make it work this time. Because I don't know about you I'm miserable without you! I've been nothing but a mess without you! Before and after you I've been nothing but a glorified rich ass that doesn't know how to be happy. Or see other people happy! I know that we met in a stupid time. In a miserable situation. But who are we to test destiny huh? Who are we to question it? Because clearly we were meant to be. Please let's stop fighting this now. I'm begging you to finally forgive me for the mistakes I did. And I'll forgive yours. And let's move on with our lives. I beg of you Clive. "
Clive listened in silence as David poured out his heart. It was clear that he had been through a lot. That he had struggled without Clive in his life. That he truly wanted a chance to start over. Clive felt his own heart open up at David's words. He had never realized how much David had suffered without him. He had never realized how much he had meant to David. And now, he saw it all. He saw everything. And he knew that he couldn't let David go. He couldn't walk away from him again.
"I forgive you, David."
Clive said, his voice thick with emotion. "And I agree. We've been apart for a while now. It's time we actually united again. "
David was so happy to hear this from Clive. This would be the best New Year of his life. He would be spending it with his husband again. And they would be truly fixing things that they had both broken.
They finally got out of the car. Clive led David inside the house. Where they found Andrew and May June with the kids Lady and Mason getting ready to go watch the fireworks display outside.
Clive and David were shocked to find out they were outside for that long.
"You two are holding hands?" May asked them. Before they could explain anything May had a hand up. " Later. It's New Year now. " With that she looked at her husband. " Happy New Year Baby."
Andrew smiled kissing his wife on the lips which got an eww from Lady who was already racing Mason to go outside to see the fireworks display.
Andrew and May June followed behind them. Leaving Clive and David to stare into each other's eyes in the empty mansion.
They both leaned towards each other. Their lips touched after years of being apart. They kissed.
It was a kiss unlike any other they had shared. It was full of hope and love, and a promise of a better future. They were both filled with happiness and joy, knowing that they were finally where they belonged. In each other's arms.
"Happy New Year, my love." David whispered, his eyes shining with love.
"Happy New Year, my one and only." Clive whispered back, holding David close.
And as they stood there, together, they knew that this was the start of something wonderful. The start of a new year, a new beginning, and a new chapter in their lives.
