Chapter 80: Live and Let Die... and Learn From It
At that moment a tall dark haired muscular man with a concerned look on his face bound through the doors that came from inside the hotel.
“Where is she?” He asked slightly out of breath.
They all pointed to where Lexy was laying on a cot. Sandra had been slowly dripping the healing elixir under her tongue to get it into her system. He ran over to her and held her limp hand.
“What the fuck happened?” He asked.
“Rogues, Charles. It was his rogues too.” Georgia answered aggressively.
“What the hell are you doing here?” He snarled once he realized who it was.
“Stop it. We were friends once. I’ve chosen my side.” She said cryptically as she stopped typing to look at him and then looked down and resumed her search.
Charles nodded in understanding and let out a heavy breath then turned his attention back to Lexy who was, like Max, still in her wolf form. “I’ll need to lie down next to her in order to help her heal.” He started to take off his clothes so that he could change into his wolf form, Liam.
Cordelia came over and helped him into the cot. He curled up next to her and settled in as he whispered how much he loved her through their mind link hoping she could hear him.
Sandra moved over to Frankie and Max. “How’s he doing?”
“He’s breathing.”
“How are you doing?”
“I can’t lose him, mom.” The tears started coming down her face again.
“Keep putting drops under his tongue.” It was hard to keep focused and see her daughter so worried about Max. It was a good thing that he was still breathing. He just need to keep breathing… and wake up.
The hotel doctor and his curvy nurse, who was also his assistant, walked in to look at Bear and Althea.
“I told Glenn to warn everyone that there were rogue sightings in the area when they checked in and to stay on the hotel grounds.” He said annoyed as he put his bag down. “He’s always afraid that fear will keep people away from this place and he’ll lose money. But this is literally one of the safest places to be… well, except last night with the lycan scare.”
Bruce and Cordelia warned Pierce and Rosemary to keep their mouths shut. They listened.
He went to Max first and noticed the puncture wounds. “How long ago did this happen?”
“It’s been two or three hours.” Frankie realized how long it had been and realized his wounds hadn’t closed up yet.
“Killer?” The doctor held out his hand and the nurse walked up to him with a syringe with a thick needle full of black liquid.
“What’s that?” Pierce asked.
“It’s active charcoal with Aconitum Anthora mixed with it.”
“What?”
“It’s a healing form of wolfsbane.” The doctor responded haughtily. “Your friend here has got the bad wolfsbane, or Aconitum Lycoctonum in his system. It’s all over his cuts and abrasions. Whoever did this to him had wolfsbane smeared on his claws. These hits are light. Their purpose was definitely the wolfsbane and not to give a fatal blow. If it was, these claw marks would have been deeper. They deliberately wanted him to die slowly, screaming in his mind. This is an act of war. I really need to contact the…”
“We’re already here.” Bruce announced.
“Your majesty. I apologize. I didn’t see you were here.” His attitude changed very quickly.
“Just save him Doctor Sprouse.” Bruce stated authoritatively.
“Of course.” He shot a dose of the black substance into Bear’s left thigh, and he let out a yelp. “And you are?” He looked at Frankie.
“I’m his mate, Frankie.”
“He’ll be in more pain than he is now while the mixture goes through his body. It’s cleaning out the bad wolfsbane and healing him. Give him water and ice chips only. Otherwise he’ll throw up. Even though you aren’t a werewolf, you should lie down next to him. Your presence will help heal him faster. You should see his wounds healing up within the next 30 minutes. Got it?”
Frankie nodded and got up into the cot to cuddle up next to Bear.
“Now.” Doctor Sprouse walked over to Lexy and Liam started to growl.
“I’m trying to save your mate. Come off the cot please.” The doctor spoke with no fear.
Reluctantly, Liam got off the cot and sat watching the doctors every move. The room fell quiet and all that could be heard was Georgia typing swiftly.
The doctor examined Lexy and kept making faces that no one could decipher.
“Killer.”
The nurse walked over to him with his bag.
“Take some of her blood. Get it from her left thigh, her back right shoulder and under her left front leg.”
She nodded and took three empty tubes out of the bag.
“What’s going on?” Rosemary asked.
“She has no puncture wounds. She is panting and in visible distress. The blood on her is not hers. Perhaps it’s Bear’s blood and he was trying to protect her. I’ll need to look at her blood to see what’s in her keeping her in this state. Alright big guy. After Killer has taken her blood you can get back up there and cuddle your mate. She needs it. Sandra, can I please speak with you?”
She nodded and followed the doctor out of the room into the side hall. Everyone was watching but couldn’t hear what they were talking about. After a few minutes, she came back in and grabbed Cordelia and they left. Everyone looked around perplexed.
“I got you! You bastard!” Georgia yelled as she clapped her hands together.
Forgetting about Sandra and Cordelia everyone quickly looked at her.
“He chipped them all. Including Alexander and Lexy. I didn’t even know he got close enough to them to chip them. I know it’s Lexy because of the location…” She looked at her screen then spoke slowly. “There are four chips in this room.” She looked around at everyone. “There should only be three.”
“Georgia, what if you’re chipped too?” Frankie asked.
“That’s impossible. It couldn’t be me…” She thought about it. “Could it?”
“It might be me.” Charles changed into his human form and put on his slacks. “Georgia, do you remember that day that I told you I woke up on my bed and didn’t remember anything from the day?”
She thought and then nodded. “You had a weird headache when you saw me and told me about it. But that would mean that Stark has had these ideas for years… that was…”
“About three years ago.” He finished her thought. “How do we test it? How do we find out?”
Georgia started typing again.
Meanwhile, Sandra and Cordelia were trying to help the doctor figure a few things out.
