Chapter 66 Chapter 66 Rebecca Went To See a Judge
Rebecca’s POV
The morning came like a visitor that did not want to come. And hence, I was perfectly dressed for the intention I have at heart.
Having waited for days and that I saw that no effort had been made by the police to arrest Gabriel, I resolved to take another step.
But even before that, “Some of the police could be corrupted. So, we have to be careful of whom we reported to,” Natasha had said to me after seeing how the police had gone silent after we reported Gabriel to them and even provided them with evidence.
Stepping out of my mansion, I saw that my high-alert security were active and, with this, I got into the Benz my chauffeur had opened the door for me, and we drove out of my mansion in my convoy.
Arriving at the law firm, I approached an attorney, Abel, in his office after I had made sure Natasha had fixed up an appointment with him.
“Welcome, Ms. Harrington. I have been expecting you.” Attorney Abel gestured his hand forward to the chair at the front of his desk.
Then, I sat down at his desk, placing my hands on the table.
Attorney Abel was a prosecutor who handled criminal cases such as the one Gabriel was involved in. And with him, I was certain he would make sure Gabriel landed his ass in jail for life.
In this manner, before I came here, Natasha and I had made sure to do something fascinating to Gabriel, and while we’d do this, he wouldn’t be able to tell until it was too late.
“All his bank accounts have been frozen now, Rebecca. We are sure he won’t be able to hire anyone to murder anyone again,” Natasha said to me through the customized earbud in my ear. And with this, I smiled.
“Is anything the matter, Ms. Harrington?” Attorney Abel sounded as soon as he saw how I smiled out of the blue.
I immediately cleared my throat.
“Everything is fine, Attorney,” I composed myself immediately, not wanting to share the reason for my abrupt smile with the attorney.
Hence, “So, what did you say he did exactly?”
With Attorney Abel’s question, I narrated everything I knew Gabriel did. I even presented him with the evidence: the footage of how he hired someone who in turn murdered different people, including Emmanuella.
“How could a man be like this? And he is a public figure?” he exclaimed, as this sounded surreal to him.
“Yes, he is the popular Gabriel Moretti of the Moretti shoe brand that you know about,” I said.
“I will take care of this, ma’am. Don’t worry about a thing. He will be invited to court and prosecuted,” Attorney Abel promised. And with this, I walked out of his office.
Luke’s POV
I watched as Rebecca came out of a law firm. I had followed her from her street discreetly and tailed her to this law firm.
Certainly, unless I was a fool, I would not know what she came here to do. But I am not a fool, so indeed, I knew she came here to tender evidence against Gabriel to a prosecutor.
Scoff.
This was a law firm, right? And indeed there were many prosecutors here. To make sure I knew which office she indeed headed to, I made sure to follow her inside, pretending I was just a regular guy who needed to see a lawyer in the law firm too.
The thing was, Rebecca was so heavily guarded. Even while she walked into the firm, her securities were standing around her convoy. Some stood guard at the entrance of the firm, and two followed her in.
Is this all because of me? Because they perceived Gabriel hired someone so talented?
Scoff.
Only a fool would see an arrow shot at him and not escape it in any way possible. I was not a fool, so I intended no harm on Rebecca. At least not yet.
While I made sure to tail Rebecca at a long distance to the office they headed to, I just knocked on another office after seeing the office the security stood guard at from my distance.
“I... I... think this is the wrong office,” I stammered purposely immediately the door was opened and a man stood in the doorway. He was dressed in a perched suit like the lawyer he was.
“Is there someone you are looking for?”
“Huh, yes. Attorney Lawrence Bennett,” I said. Watching several court cases on TV, I knew the name Lawrence Bennett as a lawyer who always won cases.
“Oh! Do you mean the one from the TV show?” the man asked.
“Yes!” I answered.
“He is not a real lawyer. He is an actor just to market the firm. So, is there anything else I can help you with?” the man asked kindly.
But could there be anything he could help me with? Of course not! “No!” I answered, bowing to him as if I were an innocent one who just knocked on the wrong office without knowing.
To make sure Rebecca’s security didn’t perceive anything awkward about me even from the distance they were from me, I made sure to leave the law firm, climbed on my bike, and rode away to the next street.
The common knowledge of everyone about the law firm was that they’d always close by 9 p.m.
Hence, even when Rebecca left the law firm about an hour after she arrived there, I waited around the vicinity until night when there were fewer clients going into the law firm.
I walked to the office door Rebecca had gone into the other time and saw the name written on the door,
“Prosecutor Abel Cross.” I tried to see if the name rang a bell, but no.
“I don’t think I know any name of such,” I muttered to myself.
To barge into the office and do justice to the prosecutor might cause alarm in the firm since I did not know the kind of alarm system they had.
Hence, I returned outside, got on the firm website, and checked through the attorney profile, looking for a Prosecutor Abel Cross.
“Gotcha!” I said immediately as I saw his name underneath a picture. Just then, I knew what he looked like.
Thirty minutes later, I saw him walking out of the firm. He was dressed in a perfectly tailored suit, and he carried a briefcase in his hand, looking like he was headed home.
With this, he walked to the car park adjacent to the law firm and got into his black, sleek Cadillac Escalade. And as such, I followed discreetly behind him before he even turned on his car engine.
“Knock Knock!” I rapped on his glass window with my gloved hand. As Prosecutor Abel turned, startled, I smiled darkly and pulled a weapon from my jacket. “I just wanted to have a little chat,” I said, my voice low and deliberate.
