Chapter 125 The Ask
Cassian’s POV
Immediately our lips touched, and that I saw her lean back like we had done something we shouldn’t out of the blue, out of the emotions that poured out of our discussion, I felt a wave of uncertainty.
“I am sorry,” I quickly said. I didn’t want to lose her. Even when I wanted to pursue a relationship with her, I wanted it to start up slowly, making sure she fully accepted me before I properly asked her out so that I wouldn’t receive the same "No" of an answer I got back in college.
“It’s okay,” she said the instant I apologized. Then I saw her hold my hands again.
She looked at my lips and leaned slowly closer.
“The truth is,” she whispered as she was coming closer, “We would have been a perfect match,” she said in a whisper. Hence, she kissed me right on the lips.
This was like a prayer answered for me. It was like I had just hit a jackpot. And how could the most beautiful woman on earth kiss me and I wouldn’t kiss her in return?
I kissed her back, burying my hand at the back of her back and helping her balance well while we interlocked lips.
Our kiss was getting longer than ten seconds, and we could hear murmurings around us.
“Look at him, he won’t look at you now. He obviously got someone else for himself.” I heard loud and clear.
But I didn’t care. Who would care about the interest of someone else when I already have the sole person my heart has always wanted?
As we reluctantly pulled away, we fixed another meeting for tonight as she had to go to work. We had agreed to share every little detail about ourselves with each other if we were really going to do this.
But of course, that’s the smallest of all the things I was ready to do for this relationship to work out.
At exactly 7 p.m., I was sitting in the perfectly dim restaurant, waiting for Rebecca, as we had agreed to meet up by 8 p.m.
I intentionally went one hour earlier so that she’d get to meet me here. This was a sign of respect and a sign that I was ready to make her happy.
The best part of this was that Rebecca didn’t even know I was not only a professor, I was an honorary political elect.
Six months ago, I was chosen as the mayor of Green Arcade City, Manderin, because of my extraordinary performance in the city when I was lecturing there.
This selection had easily made me a billionaire, whereas I used to be a millionaire.
Being an honorary-selected mayor of a city, I had purposely asked them not to publicize it except for the people of the city to know because I was concerned that my ex-wife might do some unimaginable things with some cunning attorney and take part of my wealth.
But when I indeed marry Rebecca, all of this would be past tense. I would be able to declare myself, and there would be nothing my ex-wife could do about it.
So, even though Rebecca didn’t know I was this wealthy, she still wanted to do this with me? Which, of course, meant one thing. True Love!
Rebecca’s POV
After leaving the ice cream vendor’s place earlier, I had gone to the company and handled various meetings.
Nevertheless, my mind was not concentrated on the meetings. My mind was with Cassian. We had agreed to meet up again tonight to catch up on what we had been doing ever since we stopped being friends.
And to the fact that we kissed, my mind couldn’t pretend to ignore that part.
I loved it to the brim that I knew now within myself that I was in love again.
Getting home from work, I immediately ate the food Mirabel prepared, and I rushed into the bedroom.
I knew all my housekeepers would be wondering what was going on, but that’s okay. It is okay to be in love again and very much okay to let people know.
I immediately called my stylist to come fix me up, knowing pretty well that I must appear my best before Cassian tonight. He must see me and see me even more beautiful than he saw me in the afternoon. This is what made up a woman, right?
After getting dressed by my stylist, they chose a black flowered gown accentuated with a shining silver necklace and a diamond pendant.
On my hands were gloves that were lengthened to my elbows, and on the gloves were decorative designs of silver flowers shining like diamonds on my neck.
They curled my hair to the back and made my earrings visible. It was a perfect diamond earring. Everything that spoke loudly of my wealth as Rebecca Harrington of Mandena City.
The best part of this was that Cassian didn’t know who I was. We hadn’t talked about that part in the afternoon. The fact that he didn’t know who I really was and still wanted to do this only meant one thing. True LOVE!
Cassian’s POV
I had made sure to book the whole of the restaurant only for us. I wanted us to have this exclusive meeting. The only people I had told them to allow into this restaurant were the instrumentalists who would sing some Toni’s romantic songs, like the Spanish guitar track.
Aside from them were just a couple of waiters who would attend to us. Aside from that, there was no one else who should come in.
The moment she arrived, my heart skipped a beat. Rebecca, dressed up in this manner, was more beautiful than anything I had seen in my entire life.
Her luxurious gown, her necklace, her hair, her silver shining shoes—everything screamed luxury and beauty, which made my heart crave her even more.
“You look so… beautiful!” I stood up as I complimented her when she reached my table.
She smiled at me as though she loved the way I complimented her. Hence, I held her hand and made her stretch it forward.
I placed a gentle kiss on her arm with the utmost admiration from my heart.
Thus, we both sat down and placed some orders.
We were here to get to know more about each other. I poured the wine myself, and as we talked, she stunned me with her revelation.
“I am the president of the Valentine Conglomerate,” she declared.
My jaw nearly dropped. Rebecca, the woman I adored, was the wealthiest woman in Mandena?
We laughed over our discoveries, realizing how fate had intertwined our paths once more.
As the night deepened, we sealed our conversation with another kiss—one that carried the promise of forever.
Six months later, we got married. Through trials and triumphs, we stood together, proving that love—true love—always finds its way.
And now, as we share our story, we say this: Thank you for reading. Our love is a journey, and it has only just begun.
