Chapter 113 Chapter 113 Evelyn To The Stand
Chapter 113 Chapter 113 Evelyn To The Stand
Micah’s POV
The moment the video stopped playing, my mind went blank.
I couldn’t think. I couldn’t speak.
I was already bracing myself for the inevitable—for the judge to pronounce my judgment.
The video was gory, violent, and disturbingly dark. It was so graphic that I struggled to believe Annabella had managed to capture everything that happened that night. But there was no mistaking it.
My face was there. Clear as day.
Her face was there too.
There was no way around it. No excuse that could erase what was already being broadcasted to every single person in this courtroom.
I felt suffocated.
"Mr. Micah."
Attorney David’s voice sliced through the heavy silence.
My pulse quickened.
I kept my gaze lowered, refusing to meet his eyes. I didn’t need to look to know what expression he wore. I could hear the smugness in his voice before I even saw it on his face.
He stepped closer. “I want to believe that video was AI-EDITED, right?” he teased, leaning against my stand, his words dripping with mockery.
A muscle in my jaw twitched, but I said nothing.
I stared at the cold, lifeless floor of the courtroom, wishing it would open up and swallow me whole. I knew what he was doing. He was playing with me, taunting me in front of everyone. But more than that—he was pushing for an answer.
The court was waiting.
I could feel their eyes on me. The tension thickened with every passing second.
I forced myself to swallow, my throat dry. “No.”
The word barely escaped my lips, but it was loud enough.
And that was all it took.
A ripple of murmurs erupted throughout the courtroom.
“He really admitted it.”
The words rang loud and clear, and suddenly, my own confession felt like a heavy chain wrapped around my neck.
“Order!”
The sharp sound of the gavel striking the wood echoed, and instantly, the room fell into silence.
It was so quiet that I could hear my own heartbeat thudding violently against my ribcage.
Attorney David wasted no time. His voice carried authority now, no longer laced with amusement.
“I’ll ask you one last time.” His sharp gaze bore into me. “Is that you in the video?”
His expression had changed.
No more teasing. No more smugness.
His eyes were cold and calculating, demanding an answer that I had no way of escaping.
A shiver ran down my spine.
I understood what was happening.
If I admitted it now, there would be no turning back. This wasn’t just about an interrogation anymore. This was the moment that would seal my fate.
I swallowed hard.
For a brief second, my mind wandered. I could already see it—the inside of a prison cell. The gray walls. The rusted bars. The feeling of being trapped forever.
But then another horrifying thought struck me.
What if the sentence wasn’t life in prison?
What if I was to die by hanging?
The realization sent another wave of panic through me.
Another hard swallow.
I clenched my fists, forcing myself to breathe.
“We’re all waiting for your response, Mr. Micah.”
Attorney David’s voice dragged me back to reality.
I hesitated, my eyes flickering toward the back of the courtroom.
And that was when I saw her.
Rebecca.
She was sitting there, her expression unreadable, but I knew better.
She was smirking.
One leg crossed over the other, her posture relaxed—as if she were enjoying a theatrical performance. As if none of this affected her in the slightest.
She wasn’t whispering like the others.
She wasn’t exchanging worried glances.
She was basking in it.
And that only made my stomach churn.
I turned back to the front, feeling every gaze pressing down on me.
I forced the words out. “I am.”
A hush fell over the room.
No murmurs this time. Just silence.
Attorney David stepped back from my stand, satisfied. “Please, go sit.”
I didn’t resist as two women approached. Their footsteps were nearly silent as they escorted me to my seat.
It was as if I had already been sentenced.
As if my fate was already written.
But the trial wasn’t over.
Attorney David turned back to the judge, standing tall with unwavering confidence.
“Your Honor, if it pleases the court, I would like to call a witness to the stand. A woman named Evelyn.”
The judge exhaled sharply, his gaze shifting toward the defense.
“Does the defense wish to argue anything before we proceed?” Judge Hilar asked.
Attorney Deborah barely reacted.
“No, Your Honor,” she said flatly. She didn’t even bother standing. Her voice was quiet, uninterested.
Almost as if she had already given up.
I swallowed hard again.
I was alone in this courtroom.
And I was completely, utterly fucked.
“Very well. Prosecution, you may proceed,” Judge Hilar said.
Attorney David nodded and turned to the audience.
“Ms. Evelyn, please approach the stand.”
A rustling sound filled the air. I turned my head slightly, just in time to see her rise to her feet.
Evelyn.
She was sitting beside Rebecca, and the moment she stood, my stomach tightened.
She walked with steady steps, her presence commanding, her expression unreadable.
But I knew.
I knew she had already made up her mind about me.
I swallowed hard for the third time.
This was the case that brought me here.
And I knew that whatever she was about to say would only seal my fate.
She reached the stand, standing tall.
Attorney David didn’t waste a second. “Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?”
“Yes. I swear.” Evelyn’s voice was firm.
“Then let’s begin.” Attorney David’s tone sharpened. “Tell us what happened. How did you find out that Mr. Micah was attempting to rape your colleague while your mistress was away?”
My breath caught.
Evelyn’s gaze met mine, unwavering, cold, full of contempt.
Her voice was calm, but her eyes burned with something far deeper.
“I was tending to one of the rooms,” she began.
“It’s always my duty to ensure every room in the villa is spotless. The bedrooms, the living spaces—everywhere. As the housekeeper, that is my responsibility.”
She took a deep breath.
“That day, I was cleaning one of the rooms when I heard something—a faint scream.”
Silence blanketed the room.
“I wasn’t sure if I imagined it. The villa is soundproof, after all. But then I heard it again—a cry for help.”
Her hands clenched slightly.
“I stepped out of the room and followed the sound.”
She paused, as if reliving the moment.
“I walked down the stairs and headed toward the kitchen. The door was slightly ajar. That was unusual.”
“Chef Mirabel never left the door open while she worked. She was always careful.”
“So when I saw that door cracked open, I knew something was wrong.”
Her fingers curled into fists.
“I stepped forward and peered through the gap.”
Her next words came slowly, deliberately.
“My heart stopped.”
And then she said it.
“I saw Mr. Micah—Rebecca’s boyfriend—choking Chef Mirabel against the wall.”
A sharp inhale filled the courtroom.
Evelyn’s voice didn’t waver.
“I saw him loosen his trousers. They fell to his knees.”
She exhaled shakily.
“And that was when I acted.”
She met my gaze.
“I grabbed a bat and struck him.”
And just like that—
My world shattered.
