Chapter 111 Chapter 111 Judgment
Chapter 111 Chapter 111 Judgment
Micah’s POV
“Objection Overruled!” Judge Hilar voiced immediately. And with this,
“Mr. Micah, please approach the stand,” Attorney David gestured, his voice carrying the weight of authority.
My heart pounded against my chest, an anxious rhythm that echoed through my entire body. I forced my feet forward, each step feeling heavier than the last. What question was Attorney David going to ask me? What angle was he going to take? Was this about defining sadomasochism, or was he going to twist the narrative, making it seem like my sexuality had driven me to attempt rape?
Before I could steady my breath, one of the court officials—a woman dressed in a well-tailored brown suit with neatly pressed pants—stepped forward from the corner of the courtroom. She moved with calculated precision, her every motion exuding professionalism. In her hands, she carried two hardcover books that looked like legal documents at first glance. But deep down, I knew what they were.
“Which belief do you adhere to, Mr. Micah?” she asked as she approached my stand, her tone firm yet impartial.
Her question made it clear. Those weren’t just books. They were religious scriptures, and I was expected to swear upon one before answering any questions. A formality, yet a binding one.
“I’m Christian,” I said, my voice steady despite the turmoil within.
At my response, she extended one of the books towards me. “Please place your hand gently here,” she instructed.
I obeyed, resting my hand on the holy text, its leather cover cool against my palm.
“Repeat after me,” she said.
“I swear,” I echoed.
“To say nothing but the truth,” she continued.
“To say nothing but the truth,” I repeated solemnly.
Satisfied, she gave a curt nod before turning back toward the corner she had emerged from. She walked away without another word, her duty fulfilled. I watched as she took her seat, and in that moment, the weight of what was about to unfold pressed harder on my shoulders.
“Mr. Micah,” Attorney David’s voice rang out, drawing my attention back to him.
I swallowed hard, meeting his gaze.
“Tell me,” he began, his words slow and deliberate, “how did you feel when you saw Mirabel standing in that kitchen? Looking all beautiful and nice, did you feel attracted to her? Did you want her so badly that you were willing to have sex with her whether she consented or not?”
His question sent a fresh wave of panic through me. What was he driving at? Was this a trap? I had to choose my words carefully. One wrong statement, and he would twist it against me, nailing me down into deeper trouble.
“I… I…” I stammered, trying to find the right words, the safest answer. My mind raced for an escape.
“I feel… looking at her,” I said cautiously, “I just knew I found myself trying to get down with her at all costs.”
I dared a glance at Attorney Deborah. She nodded gently, as if reassuring me that my response had been acceptable. For a brief moment, I felt a flicker of hope.
But that hope was short-lived.
A dark chuckle escaped Attorney David’s lips. He took a step closer to my stand, then leaned an elbow on it, his expression laced with amusement.
“So, you’re saying you didn’t know what happened?” His voice carried a mocking edge. “You just suddenly found yourself in this scenario? That it was all… instinctual?”
He straightened, taking a step toward the judge’s bench as if delivering a dramatic revelation. My stomach twisted in dread.
“Your Honor,” he began, his voice booming through the courtroom. “It saddens me to expose the truth about the man standing before you.”
I stiffened.
“While Attorney Deborah defends him, claiming that he did not commit the crime because he was caught before he had the chance to, I ask—what if I told you that this man is no stranger to rape?”
Murmurs rippled through the courtroom. A cold sweat broke out on my forehead.
“What if I announce and declare before Your Honor that Mr. Micah is a chronic rapist who should be locked away forever?!”
My breath hitched. What was he talking about? What rape? What past victims?!
“This man has successfully raped over five women in the past,” Attorney David continued. “He thought he got away with it because these women never reported the case. But today, they stand before you, ready to testify against him!”
My entire body went rigid. My eyes widened in horror.
I immediately turned to Attorney Deborah. Her expression was unreadable at first, but then confusion flickered in her eyes—a silent accusation. It was as if she believed I had hidden the truth from her. But I hadn’t! I had told her everything… or at least, I thought I had.
Her subtle shake of the head sent a sinking feeling through me. There was nothing she could do at this point. I had walked into a trap of my own making.
I turned my gaze, desperate, searching for anything—anyone—who could disprove what was happening. My eyes landed on Rebecca.
She was smiling.
She was enjoying every second of my downfall.
Then, the courtroom doors opened, and my world shattered.
Five women walked in, one after the other. Their faces were burned into my memory. My heart pounded violently as realization struck me with suffocating force.
“How did Attorney David know about these women?!” I thought in horror.
Five years ago. Each of these women. I had forced myself upon them, one month apart. I had threatened them, made sure they feared ever speaking out. I had convinced myself that they never would.
Yet here they were.
They walked past my stand, their eyes piercing through me like daggers. They stood in front of the courtroom, facing the judge with quiet strength. My legs nearly gave out beneath me.
“Thank you for honoring my invitation to come,” Attorney David said, his voice laced with triumph.
Then, he turned to me.
His smirk sent chills down my spine.
“Mr. Micah,” he said, his tone mocking, “do you know these women?”
I shut my eyes. My thoughts spun in chaos. Do I say the truth? Do I lie? If I admitted it, I was finished. But if I denied it, could I get away with it?
After a long pause, I finally forced out the word, “NO!”
The courtroom held its breath.
Attorney David let out a dark, satisfied chuckle.
“I was eagerly expecting that response, Mr. Micah,” he said.
He turned slightly, lifting a small recorder in his hand.
“But thankfully, we have a voice note that proves otherwise.”
I opened my eyes in horror.
Everything was over.
