Chapter 122
Chapter 122
Willa smiled, her hand giving his arm a reassuring squeeze. "We all need to hear it sometimes. But you’ve got this, Aldric. I believe in you." Ollie grinned faintly, his tone light but sincere. "Now stop hiding and show us the leader you really are."
As Aldric straightened, a flicker of confidence returned to his expression. The storm ahead still loomed, but for the first time in days, he felt ready to face it.
The Whispering Glade hummed with anticipation as warriors and leaders alike took their places. Every member of the alliance moved with purpose, their unity a striking contrast to the Council’s fractured desperation. The leaders of each kingdom stood among their troops, ready to march into the storm that loomed ahead.
Aldric stepped forward, his cloak shifting softly in the morning breeze. The torches, symbols of the Alliance’s defiance and hope, stood unlit in the center of the glade. Taking his place near the largest flame, Aldric raised his voice, addressing the gathered troops:
"Light the torches. Let our people know—it has begun."
The command echoed through the glade, powerful and clear. King Edric, standing nearby among the Havencrest warriors, heard the words and stiffened slightly. The voice carried an undeniable weight, but it was the familiarity that caught him off guard.
Torches flared to life, the flames spreading one after another until the glade was bathed in a warm, golden light. The alliance stood illuminated, their resolve burning as brightly as the fire. Aldric watched the flames spread, his expression steady but filled with purpose.
King Edric turned subtly, his emerald eyes scanning the crowd. The voice—the commanding tone, the subtle cadence—it stirred something deep within him. He glanced at the Havencrest warriors beside him, then back toward the figure who had issued the command. "That voice," he murmured under his breath, a faint furrow forming between his brows.
The flickering light of the torches caught the edge of Aldric’s cloak as he moved swiftly, joining his group as they began to advance into position. Edric’s gaze followed him, a question forming in his mind, but the opportunity to act passed quickly.
The glade returned to its purposeful bustle, warriors shifting into formation, leaders giving their final orders, and Edric buried the strange familiarity deep within, focusing instead on the task at hand. Back among his group, Aldric adjusted his position as they moved silently into the forest, their torches illuminating the path ahead before fading into shadows. The glade behind them burned with firelight, a beacon of unity and strength.
Aldric’s heart was steady now, his earlier doubts replaced by a quiet confidence. The Alliance was moving as one, its purpose clear, its resolve unbreakable. As the flames burned on, King Edric remained among his warriors, the memory of the voice lingering at the edge of his thoughts like an echo.
Tomorrow would bring battle, but tonight, the Alliance carried the weight of hope—the promise of balance that would lead them into the storm.
