Chapter 43 Blackmailing Him

Chapter 43 Blackmailing Him
Omniscient Narrative

Golden light streamed through the blinds of Vincent's home office as early afternoon gave way to evening. He had faced calls and emails, each more threatening than the last. Voices whispered through the air, dark and disembodied, unraveling the very seams of his life.

"Meet me tonight. I have something important to discuss,"

the latest message had instructed.

Vincent's instincts screamed against meeting whoever was behind these threats, but he had no choice. With his heart racing, Vincent reluctantly collected himself, slipping into a dark blazer and summoning whatever confidence remained. He needed to retain control, and every instinct fought against the rising sense of dread.

The dim lighting of the bar curled like smoke against the walls as Vincent slipped inside, scanning the crowded room for an unfamiliar face.

The air was filled with laughter and the clinking of glasses, a stark contrast to the turmoil roiling within him.

If only he could blend into the crowd, he thought.

His phone buzzed in his pocket, and hesitantly, he pulled it out. A notification glimmered against the screen—another message from the unknown sender.

"Corner booth. I'm waiting."

Vincent swallowed hard, feeling the heaviness of the weight on his shoulders as he made his way through the throng of patrons. Taking a deep breath, he padded toward the dim corner booth tucked away from view.

A figure emerged, head slightly bent as Vincent approached; when they met eyes, Vincent didn't know who it was

"Vincent." The voice was low, smooth, laced with the underlying edge of menace.

"Who are you?" Vincent demanded, indignation simmering just beneath the surface.

"Let's just say I'm someone who's very aware of who you really are," the figure replied, glancing around before leaning in slightly.

The dim light flickered, revealing just enough of the man's features— Arsty, dark hair, and a sly, knowing smile.

"What do you want?" Vincent fumed, fighting the urge to recoil further into himself.

"You can keep up your facade for now, but don't get too comfortable. I have all the information I need. I just want you to stay in line, and everything will be fine."

"What keeps you from spilling all this now?" Vincent challenged, determination flaring within him.

The man simply smiled wider. "If I wanted to ruin everything, I wouldn't need to meet you here, would I? I could send it all to your husband right now—but that would be far too easy. No. I prefer playing this extended game of puppet and puppeteer."

"What do you want from me?" Vincent asked, disillusioned and frightened. He was nothing more than a pawn caught in someone else's game.

"Cooperate, as I've said before. I'll leave you in the shadows... where no one can see you. But remember, the moment you step into the light, I'll make sure every exposure shines down on you."

The bar was filled with chatter, yet to Vincent, it felt suffocatingly silent, the weight of the shadows reminding him of the choices he had made. Somewhere in the back of his mind, the trembling fear began to mold into resolve.

"I won't be your victim," Vincent said finally, a spark igniting his courage despite the shaking inside. "People like me don't get caught. You have no power here."

"Oh, really?" The man responded coolly, eyes narrowing slightly. "Feel free to believe that. But trust me when I say I'm not the only one interested in your little secrets."

Vincent bristled but held his ground. "You're just a boy trying to play big. You don't know who you're dealing with."

"Funny," the man laughed softly, leaning back casually, as if unbothered by Vincent's presence. "But I do know you, Vincent. I know every hidden corner of your life. And that terrifies you, doesn't it?"

Vincent's bite flared with indignation, and a layer of panic clawed at the edges of his composure. "You think you can shadow me forever? I have friends—connections."

"Friends?" The mysterious man scoffed, seeming unperturbed. "I've done my research. Your acquaintances won't shield you from the truth you've hidden. Trust me when I say anyone's loyalty fades when it's time to protect themselves. You're a risk they won't want."

A chill washed over Vincent as he envisioned his life unspooling into chaos. The glaring headlines and the judgmental whispers—everything he had worked for perched precariously at the edge of an abyss.

"I don't fear you," Vincent insisted, though the trembling of his voice betrayed him. "I'll make sure you regret crossing me. I have skills you can't fathom."

The man shook his head slowly, smirking. "You don't have the upper hand, Vincent. You're just a coward hiding behind illusions. You threw away any chance of respect the moment you decided to cheat—there's no way you can win this battle."

"What's next? You want money?" Vincent pressed the issue, scoffing at the absurdity of being backed into a corner by someone he perceived to be significantly younger.

"Money?" The man repeated, laughter dancing maliciously in his voice. "No, I want something far more satisfying. I want to see you squirm and live in unrepentant fear of the truth you've hidden. Aren't you having fun already?"

Sweat trickled down Vincent's back as apprehension surged. Hope seeped from every pore of him, leaving a void filled with dread. "You're insane. This has to end. I have a life, family—"

"Oh, don't you dare bring them into this," the man warned darkly, leaning in closer as he pressed the knife deeper. "Their reputation hangs in the balance just as much as yours does. So long as I'm watching from the shadows, it's all one precarious thread away from unraveling completely."

The implication struck violently, and for a moment, Vincent could only breathe steadily, struggling to push through the weight of despair that pressed down upon him.

"Think about it, Vincent. You love your comfortable life, but I could easily peel it away, layer by layer," he continued, his smile wicked, almost predatory. "All I ask in return is that you follow my rules... and let me keep an eye on you. Disobey, and you'll come to learn exactly how cruel this world can be. Your world."

With every word, Vincent's resolve faltered like fragile glass. He grasped for straws, anger simmering below the surface as he reeled against the threat hanging precariously in the air.

"You don't know who you're dealing with," Vincent managed, drawing strength only from the flickering flame of survival. "I'll expose you if I have to."

"Expose me?" The man chuckled, amused. "How could you? You're too busy worrying about your own cancers consuming your life to even acknowledge the shadows creeping toward you. You've got nowhere to run."

As he studied the younger man's intense gaze, a pervading sense of dread filled the space. Deep down, Vincent understood his real battle wasn't just against the unseen, but against the crippling shadows within himself.

After the long conversation between the two, with the man basically threatening the older man.

"You were right man, he was almost pissing himself" the man spoke the minute Aries picked up the call.

Aries just laughed over the phone and held a short conversation with his friend.

"Alright man, thanks again, I'll see you later" they bid good bye and they ended the call.

Aries wasn't stupid, he wasn't about to reveal himself to Vincent, so he hired a friend of his to go in his place instead.

.......

Days blurred into nights, and Vincent found himself shackled to fear—a restless prison of sleeplessness gnawing at the edges of his sanity. The anonymous messages had continued, each more daunting than the last.

"Remember the coffee shop? I'll be nearby."

"Did you think I wouldn't find out about your little secrets? More coming soon."

"Tread carefully. The walls have ears."

Each notification sent his heart racing, pouring sweat down the back of his neck as he tried to scribble down strategies, ways to undo the chaos.

"Sir?" His assistant's smooth voice broke through the haze, jolting him back to reality. "The meeting is starting soon"

Vincent grunted in response, struggling to focus on the present, but his mind constantly swirled in fear of the looming threats.

"Is there an issue Vinnie?" She walked over to his desk, sitting on his desk facing him, her hand on his face.

"No, I'm just thinking of something, nothing important" he let out a sigh as he heard his hand to massage his forehead.

"Do you want me to help you relive some stress before the meeting?" She smiled at him before dropping to her knees.

He parted his legs and she immediately went to work.
