The bait
I heard my Father's voice interrupting my quiet moment on the balcony, enjoying the fresh breeze. I turned to face him, and his presence disrupted the serenity I had found in the moment. Thoughts of my dream lingered in my mind, the desire for such a profound experience silently growing within me. Tonight, during dinner, I planned to share the peculiar details of that dream with my sister, considering how busy we had been, celebrating our shared birthday just the day before.
"So yesterday was your birthday, right?" he inquired, his tone devoid of the usual indifference. His question hung in the air, demanding acknowledgment.
I sighed, my irritation surfacing. "Yes, it was. Do you have a problem with it?" The words slipped out, rudeness eclipsing the courtesy and respect ingrained in me. To my surprise, my father remained unfazed by my tone, an unusual response that heightened my curiosity.
"Over the years, I have learned that you are one of the most stupid girls in the entire universe!" My father's words sliced through the air, delivered with a venomous tone that echoed between gritted teeth. I couldn't help but smirk, a defense against his harsh words that had become all too familiar.
I stood up, ready to distance myself from his foolishness, but before I could leave, he abruptly halted me. "Hold on," he commanded, his tone demanding my attention.
"Hmm… don't go yet… " he stammered as he spoke, and I was surprised.
"And why not?" I furrowed my brows suspiciously.
"I have had enough of you in this house! When are you going to leave?!" He yelled at me, and I burst into sarcastic laughter.
After calming down, I smiled. "I will leave when you get me my house," I replied, unknowingly saying that my Father would never give me a house. Because he vowed to never.
My father smirked mischievously and said, "I have gotten you a house, do you remember my friend Combo?" He asked with a smile.
"Hmm, yes, what about him?" I asked, wondering if my Father was joking around.
"Go to his house, and he will take you to the caretaker's house," he said, and I froze on the spot.
"Wait! Are you joking?! You got me a house!" My mouth widened in shock, then I quickly closed it.
"How sure am I that you aren't making these up?" I asked with raised brows.
My father smiled and handed me the key to his favorite Mercedes Benz 2022. And I collected it at once.
"Your ride!" He smirked.
