Chapter 18 Dead
ADRIANA
My body trembled in anger as I glared hatefully at him.
“Why the hell will you do that?" I growled in anger and reached out to grip his shirt, but he grabbed my hand and pushed me to the side. I staggered back and almost fell to the ground, but I was fast enough to hold myself back from falling.
“Look, I know you're upset, but you can't keep doing this. From what I've seen, these people could kill you–"
“Who says you have the right to make that decision for me?" I growled, heaving loudly.
I was filled with so much rage that I barely thought clearly. Tears were already slipping down my face as my heart burned in pain.
The cop sighed and ran his hand through his messy hair, then reached out to touch me again, but I slapped his hand away again, glaring hatefully at him.
“Look, Adriana…”
"Don't you dare mention my name!” I spat, and his lips slammed shut.
He took a step closer and glared daringly into his eyes.
"I'm going to disappear and you better not look for me,” I mumbled and clutched the bag, then spun around and marched down the sidewalk, ignoring his calls.
I would never return to my brothers. Never! I would rather die in this fight than return to them or ask them for help.
The moment they decided to send me away from the pack because of Arlene was the moment they lost me forever.
That night, Adriana Nox died and would never resurrect again.
I took a deep breath and wiped the tears about to drop out of my eyes and increased my pace, pushing roughly through people without apologizing.
Just when I was about to step away from the sidewalk and enter an alley that would swallow me up forever, a bike sped past me, and my feet froze.
I swung my head back, and the tattoo on the neck of the rider caught my eye.
My eyes widened, and a gasp escaped my lips when the tattoo clicked in my mind. It was the mark!
I took a U-turn and began to run as fast as I could while trying to remain normal.
“Hey! Adriana!" The cop’s voice filled my head, but I ignored him. I could hear the sound of his footsteps pursuing me from behind.
If one of them was here, then it meant one thing– they found out about Harry and want to shut him up forever.
“Adriana, stop!” The cop's scream snapped through the head, but it was too late.
I was already on the crosswalk, the green part of the traffic light burned into my eyes, and cars honked loudly, but I cared less.
People screamed and cars screeched as they tried to avoid me while I sped past the busy road.
“Hey, watch!"
The sound of a screeching car close by hit me, and before I could react and move quickly, a car slammed into me.
My feet shifted, and pain hit me so hard that I felt my body go numb for a moment.
“Hey!"
“Is she crazy!"
“Adriana!"
Several voices filled my head along with a hurting siren sound that pierced my ears.
My head was spinning in circles, and my body felt like it was lifted off the ground and floating in the air with nothing to hold it down.
A car's horn hit me and I looked up. I slowly looked up from where I was stuck and realized that I was leaning on a truck with my hands on it and trying to stop it from squashing me.
The truck horned again, and the dizziness that gripped me slowly cleared, but the pain remained.
I looked around and felt my heart sink at the amount of glares directed at me from all angles.
Other cars had stopped to glare at me for breaking the peace of their ride, with most almost crashing into each other. The whole place looked like the aftermath of chaos. A chaos caused by me.
“Get off the road!" The man in the truck growled and hunkered loudly.
With ginger steps, I moved away from the truck and muttered apologies while trying to clear my mind, even though no one heard me to acknowledge it.
I slowly crossed over to the other side with a bowed head and dropped to the ground, at the verge of vomiting.
“Adriana, are you crazy?’ the cop snapped behind me, and my head jerked up.
I sprang up and spun around to face him.
"I told you to leave me alone, didn't I?” I snapped.
He sighed and shook his head.
"You know I could have you arrested for this–”
The sound of a gunshot pierced the once peaceful air, and his parted lips slammed shut.
A sickening feeling washed across me, and my heart tightened in horror.
"Harry,” I whispered, and didn't waste a second later with the cop. I spun around and ran towards Harry's dress shop, where people were already rushing to.
Tears blinded my eyes as I ran, even though I knew it was already too late to save the old man.
“Step back!" The cop roared and pulled the people away from the door.
I followed him, but he pushed me back when I tried to enter.
“I…”
"Stay right here!” He warned and entered the shop.
I would have saved him if I were a minute faster. If I had forgotten about myself and the cop, I would have saved him and caught the motherfucker.
As I stood there, sandwiched between two large women in front of the dress shop, I broke into tears, blaming myself while drowning in guilt and anger.
Other cops arrived at the scene and moved everyone away, then got in.
As I stood there, dazed, the sound of a bike filtered into my ears, and my head jerked up in the direction of the sound.
Just when I looked up, a hand yanked forward for the bag on my back, but I was fast enough to shift away from the edge of the sidewalk.
The rider turned his head, and our eyes locked. He turned to face the road again, accelerating the speed of his bike. Unfortunately, I couldn't get his face because he was wearing a helmet, but the mark was painfully obvious.
I wanted to chase after him, but my feet were too numb to move from where I stood. It was of no use anyway. They were dogs only made to carry out orders from the Scorpio leaders and discarded when they were no longer of use.
I raised my middle finger in his direction, and I could swear he smirked before disappearing into a lane.
