Chapter 14 Stay alive
ADRIANA
I jumped off the bike when I got to the station and rushed in, clutching the bag and caring less about the blood that soaked my shirt.
The police officer who had spoken to me earlier was leaning over at a desk, chatting with his colleague when I walked in.
He suddenly straightened up and swung his head in my direction, his eyes locking with mine.
His brows raised in surprise, and he moved away from his yapping colleague and advanced towards me with squinted eyes.
I narrowed my eyes and clutched the bag tighter, avoiding the eyes that constantly glanced at me from all directions.
“You again?" He spoke up, and I looked up at him.
His eyes narrowed over my body, and a huff escaped his mouth.
“What are you doing here?" He snapped in a ridiculous voice that got me narrowing my eyes in disgust.
“I’m here to see Salvador,” I blurted out.
The man shook his head and sighed.
He paused and looked at me with raised brows and eyes full of tiredness.
“You can't see him now, you need to leave, it's not visiting hour yet,” he snapped.
My shoulders squared, and I stomped my feet on the ground in anger.
"You need to let me see him! It's important! I…I do have evi–” I paused and felt my heart clench in fear.
What the fuck was I even doing? No one was to be trusted, not even the security officers.
“What?" The man leaned forward, his eyes darkening.
“What did you say?" He asked again.
"Nothing! I need to ask him about something!” I quickly blurted out.
The man's eyes narrowed in suspicion, and he huffed loudly in disbelief.
"What's in the bag?” He asked, pointing at the bag swung over my shoulders.
My throat knotted and I clutched the bag tighter, glaring at him.
"None of your business!” I snapped in anger. The man's head tilted to the side as he drew closer, his eyes fixed on the bag.
I staggered back and swung my head around in panic. Only a few people threw short glances at me, but never interfered.
If the man were to get his hands on the bag, then my plan of getting revenge would be destroyed.
I clenched my fist, ready to throw hands if he tried anything funny.
“Is that blood on your shirt?" A voice spoke up behind me, and my staggering feet froze.
The man also stopped moving and darted his eyes over my shirt, then finally noticed the blood soaked on the arm of the shirt.
Worry darted across his eyes, and he gasped loudly before reaching out to touch my slashed arm, but I slapped his hand away, glaring.
“What happened to your arm?" He asked, but I remained silent.
Thanks to the nosy cop behind my back, almost everyone in that bustling hall had their eyes on me.
“Didn't she just get released a few hours ago?" An officer whispered, and I felt a lump in my throat.
“Yes, I think so. Can't believe she got into another trouble," another officer muttered.
The man standing before me sighed and looked around, embarrassed by the amount of attention we were receiving.
“Go get yourself treated," he muttered, and I shook my head.
“Not until I see him," I said.
His shoulders sagged when he realized how adamant I was.
He sighed and rubbed his forehead.
“Come with me," he muttered and spun around.
My lips twitched up as I followed him into a corridor till we walked into a room.
“Sit here," he waved his hand at the chair before the partition.
I slumped into the chair as he walked out.
My fist clenched and my heart raced as I waited for Salvador.
I felt relief wash over my body when the door to the room at the other side pulled open and Salvador walked in in handcuffs.
The hair was getting whiter, and I feared that the man's words could be true.
He smirked and sat down when the cop removed the handcuffs.
His eyes darted over to the black bag on my lap, and he huffed loudly, swinging his head to the side.
“I knew you would find it," he muttered as he stared at the bag.
“Why did you take the fall?" I blurted out my anger.
He groaned loudly and ran his hand through his white hair.
My chest tightened at his action, and I gripped my shirt.
“Didn't you say you want revenge?" He asked.
I gulped hard, trying so hard not to choke on the tears threatening to spill out.
“Not…not this way,” I whispered.
My voice was breaking, and there was nothing I could do about it.
He sighed and leaned forward, placing his hand on the partition.
“Crying won't get those people down or get me out of this damned place," he muttered, and I sniffled.
I wiped the tears that dropped and took a deep breath before sitting up.
“I found this," I said and brought out the book.
He smiled grimly as he stared at the large book in my hand.
"Oh…" he murmured.
“Is Miles part of this?" I asked.
“Everyone in there is."
My heart crushed, and I sank my nails into my flesh, trying to calm the pain burning in me.
“Miles won't ever do this," I blurted out before realizing.
Salvador scoffed loudly, his lips twitched up in disgust and anger.
“You believe him that much!" He spat and cursed loudly.
“It's not that…”
"You're so blind, it's time you open your eyes. Neither your best friend nor that bastard gives a fuck about you. If they did, they wouldn't want to have you sold or killed!” He spat, and my belly knotted.
"Diana… she was kidnapped too," I mumbled, and he scoffed again.
“You really think Viktor will have his daughter killed? He'd rather burn down everyone in that building to save his daughter," he muttered.
I broke into tears and dropped my head, unable to hold myself back anymore.
“Why? Nobody cares about me, nobody," I cried.
Salvador chuckled loudly, but I knew he wasn't mocking me like he always did.
“Then don't care about anyone either. If you want to get me out and prove my innocence, then you need to destroy them, every one of them. That'll be killing two birds with a stone," he muttered.
“I don't think I can do it," I whispered and shook my head.
Silence trailed between us until the cop shouted that we had a few minutes left.
“Hey, look up," he whispered, and I slowly raised my head.
"Wipe those tears,” he instructed calmly, and I obeyed.
"Go out there, brat, show them who Adriana Nox is. People say nothing good comes out of the Nox bloodline. Prove them right again,” he muttered.
My heart clenched, and I took a deep breath. At that moment, it felt like my heart was remoulded into a stone. Every feeling and emotion disappeared.
“Yes, I'll show them what a brat Adriana Nox can be," I muttered, and Salvador's lips stretched into a wide smile.
His smile looked tired, and so were his eyes.
“Everything you need is in that book. Also, meet the cop who brought you in, he has something to give you on my behalf. Find the person and ask him questions. He'll try to act tough, but take him on until he spills," he said.
“Times up!" The cop shouted and walked in.
I slammed my hand on the partition as Salvador got up.
“Salvador!" I screamed, and he turned around.
My trembling lips parted, and I whispered my last words to him.
“Stay alive."
