Chapter 13 Kill one, Take one home.
NOELLE.
What is he doing here? I swallowed hard, swerving to face the items of the auction displayed. Dominic turned to me, his face just inches away from mine.
“Bid on whatever catches your eye.” I smiled, winking at him but I couldn't shake the uneasiness of the eyes, probably boring holes through my head.
Alistair.
“And finally for the last item for today's auction, an exquisite blue heart diamond necklace, the only one of it's kind. Bidding starts at 2 million.” The auctioneer hollered and for the first time since we got into the auction, Dominic raised his bidding paddle.
“2 million.”
“2 million, anyone raising it higher?” The auctioneer bellowed.
“2.5 million.” Another countered and I touched Dominic's hands to stop him from raising the price.
“Not that I hate spending your money but you could just wire the money to me, this isn't worth raising it any further.” He flicked his fingers on my forehead and shook his head in negativity.
“I mean, we came for an auction, it would suck if we left without an item.” I shrugged as he raised his paddle.
“5 million.”
“5 million, going one, two—” He was about banging the gavel when a familiar voice rang from the back.
“10 million.” Heads swerved to face Alistair who seemed focus on only me, is he trying to screw me the fuck over?
“Woah! 1 million, going—”
“15 million.” Dominic raised, glaring at Vance.
Weird. They used to be friends until we all got torn apart but right now? There was probably an unspoken feud I didn't know about.
“Anyone going any further?” The auctioneer questioned. Alistair stood to his feet, walked up to me and threw his paddle to the stage.
Everyone roared in excitement while I just stared in shock.
“My goodnessss, that's a top bid signal. No matter how much anyone bids, he's going to top it. That's literally insane.” The auctioneer banged the gavel and one of the ladies brought up the necklace to him.
After receiving it, he walked out of the auction like he wasn't even there to begin with. Dominic seemed visibly angry, his hands coiled into a fist and his eyes red.
I slowly patted his back, letting him know the auction was over and it was time to leave. Vance had a way of getting to people, a typical example of his parents.
“He hasn't changed one bit.” Dominic finally shrugged, turning to stare at me and I nodded.
“Not even one bit. Don't pay him any attention. We had a beautiful night and even if he tried to ruin it, we won't let him.” He flashed me a bright smile and we stood up to leave.
I mistakenly bumped into one of the serves carrying a tray of wine and it all spilled over me.
“My goodness, ma'am, I'm so sorry. I'm—” I gasped staring down at my dress before looking up at her.
“It's okay. It was just a mistake. Please show me to the rest room so I could clean myself up. Dom? Could you help me grab the spare dress in your car.” He nodded immediately.
I turned on the faucet once I got into the restroom, the sound of rushing water calming my nerves yet the thought of what Alistair had just done seemed unable to leave my head.
I needed to draw a clear line with him.
A few minutes later, I heard heavy footsteps, thudding towards my direction.
I turned off the faucet when a soft knock came on the door.
"Who is it?" I called out, twisting the door knob and Dominic's face came into view, his eyes gliding up and down my body.
He swallowed hard, his mouth agape like he had been star strucked.
"I know I'm really pretty but there's really no need for such a big reaction." I teased, stretching out my hands to take the dress from him but he just stood there motionless.
"Dominic?" I clicked my fingers in front of his face but he seemed like his soul had dropped unto a parallel universe different from this one.
He just stood there like a freaking statue. What is this about?
"Dom! Dominic? Earth to you!" I called out, my voice slightly raised, clicking my fingers harder than before and he finally blinked, taking a deep breath in before shutting his eyes.
"I...I'm sorry." He muttered, stretching out the dress and I collected it from him with a puzzled expression.
I swear, you could never understand what the hell is going on in the head of a man.
I laid down the bag the dress came with on the top of the sink and was about unzipping the dress I had on when I caught my reflection in the mirror.
Holy freaking fuck!
The neck line of the dress I was wearing had torn and my cleavage were in full sight! When did this happen? I bit down on my lips, my face turning bright red out of embarrassment.
And here I was questioning why Dominic looked puzzled and....dazzled?
Oh dear heavens, he would definitely think I was trying to flirt with him. He must have gotten the wrong idea.
I hurriedly got out of the dress and wore the other one he had brought.
Walking out of the restroom, I went right down to the floor where I had left Dominic but he wasn't there. I stared around in confusion.
He didn't tell me he was going anywhere else, and there's absolutely no way he would have left without me.
I facepalmed myself at the thought that I had just flashed my boobs at a guy I wasn't even interested in.
"Sorry," I stopped one of the ushers with a hand gesture, "Did you happen to see the gentleman who was with me?" She squinted her eyes a bit like she was trying to recall before nodding vigorously.
"Yes. He went down just few minutes ago with the gentleman that bought the blue heart diamond necklace." I furrowed my brows.
Fucking Alistair! Was he trying to stir trouble with Dominic?
"Thank you so much." I was already heading towards the day, my eyes darting backwards and forward when a cars headlight flashed in my eyes.
I shut my eyes tightly due to the lights impact and used the back of my palm to cover them, finally peeking to see Dominic behind the wheels, a sadistic smile on his lips and his eyes glinting with murderous intent.
My heart leaped! He was driving towards Alistair. What the hell?
"Vance! Move!" I yelled when Dominic rammed into Alistair, his head bashing against the cars headlights.
