Chapter 31
Anthony POV
After explaining over and over to Megan what happened in the bathroom that night, she searched my story for loopholes that didn't exist, Natalie kept sending me random messages from various numbers, and even though I blocked and ignored her, she will only message me via another phone, I had to beg Megan to not go by Natalie's house to whoop her ass, everyone knew who we were, and no doubts that we would make every possible gossip site there is, and I honestly couldn't deal with another Best friend Scandal.
"Meg, come on are you seriously going to ignore me? Your parents are on their way and this is how we will greet them," ever since last night, she hasn’t spoken to me, or even looked at me, she went as far as to sleep in another bedroom.
I took the day off work to help her prepare her parent's favorite meal, clean the house, and welcome them, I could have hired someone to do all of that but Megan wanted us to spend more time together, She was now busy in the kitchen, preparing dinner, it consists of aa lot of baking and slow cooking, so she did an early start, she did make me breakfast this morning though, no words, no kiss, none of that, she was really upset at the fact that I wasn't going to tell her, but I have my reasons I didn’t want history to sort of repeat itself, knowing I was with Stevie first, then magically God swept Meg in my life, Now I got a dickmatized Natalie, who by the way only gave me a blow job, this was like best friend crazy cycle, and I need it to end. I knew she would try to blackmail me sooner or later, so I was going to pay her to just leave us alone, Megan doesn't have friends, and Natalie was her best friend and bridesmaid, and I didn't want to ruin that.
"Ok well have it your way then, I'll be upstairs, organizing the guest room", I stormed off annoyed by her attitude, and I wasn't allowing her to ruin my day, I needed to be on my best today in the presence of her parents.
I kept glimpsing at my watch, trying to keep track of time, all this work and redecorating made my lower back ached a little, being twenty-nine is no joke, the closer I approached my 30th birthday, the older I felt.
I sighed at this, almost thirty and no kids as yet, Meg was only twenty-two and I didn't know if she was ready for kids, being that young she's probably on the pill, glimpsing at my watch again I noticed that the time passed for Megan's parent’s arrival, peeping outside I realize one of the cars was missing and I didn't see Jace roaming around. I rushed downstairs to the bedroom to take a shower, I realized Megan was already wrapped in a yellow towel with visible water droplets on her upper shoulder, she was seated in front of a huge mirror fixing her hair in an up-do and applying light makeup, she even laid out a nice grey suit on the bed for me, I smiled to my self at how genuine she is, even though she was upset with me, she still took care of me, like any wife should, I know we are not married yet, but I couldn't wait to finally call her Mrs. Rhone.
I hurriedly showered and began to get dressed. Megan must be waiting for her parents because she was no longer in the bedroom. Straightening my tie, I mumbled to myself, "well let's meet the in-laws.”
I walked around the room, trying to find Megan already seated, before her seated was two elderly people sipping from mini teacups, Jace was going up the staircase, gripping firm the two suitcases by the handlebars.
I cleared my throat, disrupting their conversation, Megan turned and saw me, letting out one of her fake chuckles, she stood and took my hand, I began to admire how sexy and beautiful she looked, she was wearing a knee-length deep cleavage cut grey dress similar to my suite, and red heels, with minima makeup
“Mom, Dad... meet my fiancée, Anthony Rhone.”
Dinner was ok, Mrs. Francis was cheerful and excited about the wedding, Mr. Francis, however, was something else, most of his questions were rather insulting but I kept my cool, I was taking away his only daughter after all, and if I were to have a daughter, I would have been overprotective too. In time he will grow to trust me, for I have nothing but pure intentions for Megan.
"So, Mr. Rho..."
"Please Mrs. Francis, call me Anthony."
She smiled at my words, “well Anthony only if you too would drop the formality, please...call me mom."
"Ok mom", my heart was flattered by her kind words.
"Not me though boy, you'll address me as Mr. Francis or Sir, fuck out of here with that Mom and Dad shi..."
"Rupert Murdoch Francis! You will shut your mouth and be respectful to this sweet young man in his home", Mrs. Francis barked, Mr. Francis lowered his head and kept grumbling to himself.
"Yes, as I was saying sweetheart, do you plan on having kids any time soon?"
Her question caused Megan to choke a little on her wine, "Ma! we aren't married yet, we haven't even got the chance to have that talk yet."
"Hush up now, honey, I was talking to Anthony", Mrs. Francis turned to me with a broad smile.
"I must say I agree with my fiancée Mrs. Fran— I mean Mom, we haven't had that discussion yet, but I would surely love a daughter and a son one day."
She smiled and nodded at my answer and returned to eating.
After dinner Mr. and Mrs. Francis got settled in, and Megan and I cleared the table, her parents were only visiting for 3 days but since the wedding is next week, why not have them stay then our parents are nice people Meg,", but instead of a reply all I got was a cold shoulder, all that lovey-dovey stuff at dinner was just a show for her parents.
"Meg come on baby, it wasn't my fault, I didn't know—”
"But you didn’t apologize, Anthony, you were going to hide it from me, what was it? Were you planning on sleeping with her again?" she blurted out.
"No! Baby No, I know you don’t have any friends, and she's your best friend and also your bridesmaid so I did want to ruin..."
"Ruin what? So what if I found out after the wedding? She would have been in all of the pictures, and sooner or later, I would have found out, and I would be stuck with it for life!"
I listened to her keenly and she did have a point.
"I'm going to bed!" She stormed off.
I was going after her when a hand stopped me by my shoulders.
"Finish up son, I got this."
"Yes Mam," was the only thing I could mutter out.
After hours, Mrs. Francis and Megan were still talking and I grew impatient, so I went to check on the thing and accidentally began to eavesdrop.
"Megan what you are feeling is guilt, Stevie was also your best friend, but you are now engaged to her ex-fiancée, Natalie made you realize how painful that sort of betrayal truly hurts before you go on with this wedding, you must first set it straight with Stevie, gain her forgiveness and move on with your lives."
I frown at Mr. Francis's advice to Megan because it was true, it was time we confronted Stevie and move along, the only problem is... We don't know where in the world she now resides.
