CHAPTER 7- Trapped In Darkness
Ava's POV
I paced back and forth in the lavish room the Alpha had left me. The scent of him lingered in the air, a blend of masculinity and dominance. My mind raced with thoughts of escape before he returned, considering various strategies to free myself from this opulent yet daunting confinement.
As I observed the room, its elegance struck me. Deep crimson velvet draped the walls, contrasting with the dark wooden furniture, giving it an air of mystery and power. The golden accents sparkled under the soft glow of the intricate chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. A large portrait of the Alpha adorned one wall, capturing his regal demeanor and fierce eyes. The room spoke of wealth and authority, an embodiment of the dominance of the werewolf nature.
But amidst the grandeur, fear grasped my heart. Why had the Alpha chosen me? What did he intend to gain by claiming me as his own? The mystery of his motives left me trembling with both trepidation and curiosity.
My mind wandered to Jack. I wondered if he was out there, waiting for me, unaware of what had happened to me. He must be waiting for me. I left to get him some herbs to help with wound the asshole of an Alpha inflicted on him. But now, I found myself trapped in this room, a helpless captive yearning for freedom.
My thoughts collided, alternating between concocting escape plans and hoping for Jack's safety. Panic and adrenaline coursed through my veins, the thumping of my heart matching the racing tempo of my thoughts. Every second felt like an eternity, anticipation building with each passing moment.
I studied the room, searching for any potential weaknesses or hidden passages. The tall windows caught my attention, their heavy drapes swaying slightly in the faint breeze. Perhaps they could serve as my escape route. I imagined myself slipping from the room unnoticed, using my stealth and agility to navigate through the moonlit night.
Another option crossed my mind - confronting the Alpha directly. If I could tap into his emotional side, appealing to his compassion or empathy, maybe he would release me from his grasp. It was a risky endeavor, playing with the unpredictable nature of a dominant werewolf, but it seemed like a possibility worth exploring.
As I contemplated my choices, time seemed to blur, the boundaries between reality and imagination blending together. I could almost hear the distant howls of the pack and the rustling of the forest. Imprisonment only fueled my determination, igniting the fighter within me. I refused to let fear consume me entirely.
The minutes turned into hours, each tick of the clock echoing in my mind. Darkness wrapped around the room, intensifying the shadows cast by the flickering candlelight. My senses sharpened, my body preparing itself for whatever was to come.
And then, I heard the sound of footsteps approaching the room, the powerful gait unmistakable. My heart skipped a beat as I braced myself, ready to face the Alpha on his return. Determination replaced the fear that had plagued me moments before. I would not cower before him; I would stand my ground and fight for my freedom.
As the door creaked open, I stood tall, a fire burning in my eyes. Ava, no longer just a captive, but a force to be reckoned with. The battle for my freedom had just begun, and nothing, not even the powerful Alpha, could extinguish the flame within me.
But my eyes fell on someone different.
As I stood eye to eye with the man who wasn't the alpha, I couldn't help but notice his attractive features. However, his looks paled in comparison to the captivating presence of the alpha who held me captive. I couldn't help but wonder why this place was filled with such fine men.
Curiosity sparked within me, and finding myself in an unfamiliar situation, I mustered the courage to ask, "Who are you?" My voice quivered slightly, betraying the mixture of fear and intrigue that coursed through my veins.
To my surprise, he countered my question with an inquiry of his own. "And who might you be, and what are you doing in Xavier's room?" His eyes held a glimmer of suspicion, as if he knew more than he let on.
My senses heightened, and I realized that my kidnapper's name was Xavier. My mind raced with questions, but outwardly, I maintained composure. I couldn't afford to reveal my vulnerability to this stranger, who may or may not be involved in the tangled web of Xavier's plans.
With a forced smile, I replied, "I'm Ava, and I stumbled upon this room by accident. You see, I got lost in this labyrinthine mansion. Can you please direct me back to where I came from?" I masked my desperation, hoping he would buy into my facade.
The man's gaze never wavered, and a hint of skepticism flickered across his face. "Are you certain you spent the night with Xavier?" his words cut through the air like a sharp blade, causing my heart to skip a beat.
The mere suggestion sent a chill down my spine, and I quickly denied his accusation, feeling my nose cringe involuntarily. "No, no! I would never willingly spend the night with someone like him. Xavier is nothing more than my captor, and I am desperately seeking a way out of this madness."
I paused, taking a deep breath to steady myself, and continued in a softer tone, "Tell me, who are you? Why are you here, and do you have any knowledge of how to escape this place?"
The man's expression softened momentarily, revealing a glimmer of empathy in his eyes. "I'm Marcus. And you fine amaze me."
As Marcus's words washed over me, a sense irkness wash over me. What was he saying? The fact that he wanted to flirt made me almost wipe of that smirk off his face.
I stared at Marcus in disbelief, his words echoing in my ears. "I'm sorry, but I can't let you leave until Xavier arrives," he said firmly, his voice holding a sense of authority I had never heard before. Fear began to creep up my spine as I realized the gravity of the situation. Xavier was his Alpha, the leader of his pack, of course he wasn't gonna let me go.
Who was I kidding?
I pleaded with him, my voice shaking with desperation. "Please, Marcus, I don't understand. Why won't you let me go? What's happening? I need to leave!" My heart raced in my chest, my mind racing with a thousand scenarios of what could possibly be going on. But Marcus simply shook his head, his gaze unwavering.
Instead of giving a straight answer, he began to play mind games with me. He toyed with my emotions, deliberately keeping me on edge. It was as if he took pleasure in my fear, relishing in the power he held over me. Every passing second only fueled my anxiety, making my palms sweaty and my breath shallow.
As the minutes turned into hours, I couldn't help but fear the return of the Alpha. Xavier was known for his ruthlessness and dominance. The mention of his impending arrival sent shivers down my spine, a cold dread settling deep within me. What could have possibly happened that required his immediate presence? And why was I still here, trapped in this unsettling limbo?
Unable to bear the suspense any longer, I finally gathered the courage to speak up. "Marcus, there's something you need to know," I began, my voice trembling. "Xavier wanted to claim me as his mate. It was unexpected, and I couldn't comprehend why he chose me when he doesn't even know who I am"
To my surprise, Marcus's eyes widened, a flicker of shock crossing his face. He seemed genuinely taken aback by my revelation, lost in his own thoughts for a moment. The silence between us was heavy, pregnant with unspoken questions and unexpressed emotions. It made the tension in the room palpable, raising the hairs on the back of my neck.
Eventually, Marcus spoke, but his voice carried an almost incredulous tone. "Xavier wanted you? His mate?" he repeated, his voice barely above a whisper. It was as if a puzzle piece had just been revealed to him, his mind now trying to connect all the dots. My heart pounded in my chest as I waited for him to respond, to give me an explanation. But all I received was a confused expression.
In that moment, I realized that not only was I caught in the middle of a dangerous situation, but Marcus himself was grappled with his own set of secrets and uncertainties. We were both pawns in a much larger game, unaware of the rules or the players involved. And as the minutes ticked by, I couldn't help but wonder if the safety I sought was ever within reach, or if it was all just an illusion in this treacherous world I found myself in.
