CHAPTER 54
Bethel's eyes glisten as minutes dragged by. She wondered what Harry is doing in her father's house.
What could he be discussing with him?
Questions filled the air around her as she awaits his return. It's fine if he will be getting engaged to Annie but that isn't enough reason to bring her back here.
Another long minutes dragged by and Harry finally stepped out, Bethel's chest started heaving as he approached her. She wondered what he would say to her but he didn't utter a word and that made her even more unease.
He climb on his scooter and fit in his helmet. She was confused on what to do. Climb on the scooter behind him or stay back?.
Has he finally brought her back to her father's house?
She doesn't understand the silence treatment and she wished he would just say a word to her. Anything at all.
"Hop in behind me" his voice was calm and she released the breath she didn't even know she was holding. She thought he is leaving without her.
She hop in behind him and he passed the helmet to her, "thank you" she said inwardly. He rode out speedily. It was chilly that night and whenever the breeze hits her skin pores she feels so cold. The cool breeze blowing her long hair didn't help at all, it made her feels so cold and what she wanted was a warm embrace.
Maybe something soft would do.
Harry increased his speed, she was so scared that she had no option than to hold his velvet jacket. The first touch of it was soft and what she felt like was resting her head on his back, inhale his sweet cologne.
What was she even thinking?..
"You will fall if you don't hold on tight to me" Harry said. He noticed Bethel had been acting strange since Annie's arrival.
Wait!. Is she in love with him? Maybe not, who would love a man with a crazy large sex addiction. Bethel deserves better but he is still going to try his luck in wooing her.
"Am fine. Annie would misunderstand if she sees me holding onto you" Bethel replied.
Harry chuckled. "She can misunderstand whatever thing she sees, I won't marry her anyways" Harry said in his head.
Bethel felt bad Harry didn't say a word when she mentioned Annie. What was she expecting?
Annie is a very beautiful and elegant lady compared to a commoner like her. He must really like Annie too.
Bethel blinked her eyes when Harry's scooter came to a halt in front of an exquisite mall.
"I will be back in the next 10minutes" Harry took excuse and walked into the mall. He didn't take more than the expected time before he came out and of course with three heavy bags. She doesn't need a prophet to tell her all that are for Annie.
"Want some ice cream?" He asked her.
"I'm .... I'm... I'm okay" she whispered and when Harry mount of the scooter, she blinked back tears. She quickly wiped them and lock her hands on his waist. She rested her face on his back as he rode out speedily, maybe because she feels they won't get close to each other after today. They would go back to their master and servant relationship.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Bethel sat in her room with her laptop on her laps. She has been trying to cool her head off, she's fighting heart ache and in other to divert her mind to something positive, she picked her laptop and was accepting new orders and jotting all she needs to buy for the next set of dresses she would be making.
She's so happy more orders are coming in.
Her sales is increasing and her fashion store is starting to get more publicity.
She's gonna launch a new wear soon and she'll make sure it's eye catching.
She would have told Harry about it but she just doesn't want to bore him with her matter anymore. After all, he will be getting married to Annie.
It's 11am already.
She managed a smile on the corners of her lip as new messages popped in on her page.
More orders were coming in, and some were sending feedbacks for the dresses she had delivered, they loved it.
They always love her wears, no one has seem to complain since she started, she always make sure she does everything accurately, get the best fabrics and she doesn't go overboard with her prices.
People loved her for it.
"Come in" Bethel said, after hearing a knock on her door.
She didn't raise up her head, she thought it was one of the bodyguards.
"Hey" She heard the steel voice of Mrs Crown and her head flew up.
"Hi ma, do you want anything?" She asked, dropping her laptop.
She got to her feet nervously, wondering what the woman wants.
Mrs Crown looked round the room, she was impressed by Bethel's neatness and sense of arrangement, nothing was out of place.
"Have your seat ma" Bethel said, clearing her laptop from the bed.
She smoothened the bedspread.
Mrs Crown swinged out the dressing chair, and sat down.
Bethel swallowed and gently dropped her laptop back on the bed.
"My son loves you" Mrs Crown said, looking less concerned.
"Uhh.. yes, and... i.. lo... you don't have to be worried about that ma, I'm not going to be in a relationship with Harry.." Bethel replied.
"Why?" Mrs Crown asked.
"Huh?" Bethel looked surprised.
"Answer my question" Mrs Crown maintained her cold voice.
"Well... we've both agreed to keep been friends, i won't want to taint his reputation" Bethel said and Mrs Crown's eyes narrowed at her words.
"Seems she's truly different like Harry had said." Mrs Crown thought.
Most ladies wouldn't have cared about Harry's reputation. Bethel is selfless and Mrs Crown is glad that Bethel's respected the fact that her son's reputation might be blemished.
She doesn't look like a gold digger like Evelyn always say.
"Well... I'm not here for that" Mrs Crown said.
"You want something ma'am? " Bethel asked.
"My husband is coming here next week Wednesday" Mrs Crown smiled and Bethel almost smiled too.
There was so much love in her eyes when she mentioned her husband, she looked like a sixteen year old girl, going on her first date.
"That's nice" Bethel said, not knowing what else to say.
She wondered why Mrs Crown told her that? This woman never liked her right?
"And i want you to make a beautiful dress for me" Mrs Crown said and Bethel was stunned.
She stared at Mrs Crown like she was joking. Someone like her will never buy dresses from her right?
"I only picked few dresses when we left Paris and all of them are not suitable enough to welcome my husband"
"Ohh" Bethel said reasonably.
"Though i use more expensive and exotic fashion designers but I'm gonna give you the job cause this came on a short notice" Mrs Crown said, she had actually visited Bethel's page earlier and was deeply impressed with what she saw.
The feedbacks from her customers were amazing, Bethel makes perfect dresses and she wants one too.
Though she has suitable dresses to welcome her husband but she wants one from Bethel, she wants to examine her handwork closely and if she's impressed, she'll make her her personal fashion designer and Mrs Crown's personal designer gets paid monthly, aside from the money she pays whenever she orders a dress.
"Okay ma'am, do you want me to show you the pictures of some beautiful dresses i made or do you have any one in mind?" Bethel asked, sounding professional.
"I have a picture" Mrs Crown brought out her phone and showed Bethel the dress.
Bethel panicked a bit, seeing it was from Vivian's fashion store..
Mrs Crown can just order it and it'll get delivered by tomorrow.
"Why don't you want to order it from Vivian's fashion store? Ma'am" Bethel asked.
"And who are you to tell me where to order my dress from? Sitting here with you must be giving you the audacity to suggest things to me" Mrs Crown said in an almost harsh voice.
"I'm sorry Mrs Crown" Bethel said.
"Or.. you can't make it? Is it too difficult for you to make ? I guess it's more than you can handle. I'll leave then" Mrs Crown said, making a move to stand up but Bethel quickly stopped her.
"No! It's actually a very simple dress to make. I'll finish it in hours once i get the fabrics for it" Bethel said, studying the dress.
It's a pale fishtail Italian dress with a halter neck, it was gathered by the waist, the back was a bit open and crystals graced the edge of the dress, it's a simple dress and yet with a touch of splendour.
The fabrics looked costly and the crystals too.
"Okay so, what's your price?" Mrs Crown asked.
"Huh?" Bethel asked, she hadn't been prepared for that question.
"Your price?"
"I.. I'll get back to you ma" She answered.
"Do that fast cause i want the dress ready by Sunday, i need to buy matching shoes" Mrs Crown said, getting on her feet.
"Thanks for patronizing ma'am" Bethel said.
"I wouldn't have if it hadn't been on short notice, i have my own personal designer. And get back to me fast on the price" Mrs Crown said before walking out of the door.
Bethel sighed..
She can't possibly give her a huge price, can she?
Of course no.
Well.. today is Saturday, she has enough days to make the dress ready she'll make sure it's ready before Wednesday.
It's not really a hard dress to make.
And this might be her chance to prove to Mrs Crown that her talent is far bigger than her cute small workshop.
She had checked Mrs Crown's posts on Instagram even before she came here and she must say her designer is doing a great job but she knows she's gonna do a better job.
