CHAPTER 52
They heard a car came to a halt in the compound.
"She's back" Emma said, sitting upright.
She planned on how to bombard Bethel with questions.
The door opened few minutes later and they were surprised and disappointed to see Harry walk in.
He doesn't return from work this early.
"Hi mum" He pecked Mrs Crown on both cheeks.
"How was your day brother?" Emma asked.
"Normal, are you both expecting someone?" Harry asked curiously.
"I saw the workshop in the garden, you don't have to explain. We know she forced you to do it" Emma said.
"Forced? Bethel never forces me to do anything. She refused when i showed her the workshop and i had to talk her into accepting it and we were both in there yesternight till she was done sewing" Harry said surprising his siblings and his mum.
"Wait... were you guys waiting for her?" Harry asked.
"Well... yes"
"For what?" He asked.
"We thought she forced you to do it" Emma said.
"And you're gonna do what to her? It's high time you both stopped all this. Bethel is not like Angel's past nannies! She's different, she's far different. Stop treating her like she means nothing, it's unfair" Harry dropped his blazer on the couch.
"You keep doing things you won't do on a normal day just because of her" Mrs Crown said.
"Mum, everything i did for Bethel, i can do it for any other person..."
"I know you're a philanthropist but.." Emma was saying.
"Then why are you so against me helping Bethel." Harry interrupted her. "Moreover it's my money and i can do whatever i want with it"
"Bethel is still the best nanny Angel ever has, Angel could testify to that. She has never tried to seduce me or peform any immoral act, she's just like a second mother to Angel, Angel loved her right from the start. Bethel is a very good person, i don't know where your dislike for her is coming from. You didn't even treat Angel's past nannies like you do treat her. She is a human too, the fact that she did not get the opportunity to be in our position doesn't mean you should treat her like thrash, she wouldn't be here if she saw better opportunities, you both are being unfair to her" Harry said and Mrs Crown looked remorseful, she seemed to be having a change of mind.
"That doesn't mean you should treat her like she's part of us, the fact still remain that she's a nanny and shouldn't get the privileges her employer and his family gets" Emma said.
"That's up to me to decide, I'm her employer after all, she'll do whatever i say and whatever you see Bethel do. I told her to, she doesn't do anything without asking for my permission, she has never taken advantage of my kindness to misbehave, she's still the most well behaved person I've ever seen"
"She might be pretending brother" Evelyn chirped in.
"Whatever... if you both don't stop being mean to her then I'm gonna change towards you too"
Harry said in a serious tone to his siblings.
He picked his blazer and started walking towards the stairs.
He stopped and turned "And i might drive you out of my mansion as well".
"What! Because of a nanny" Emma screamed while Mrs Crown just stared at him..
"Yeah" Harry smiled before disappearing to his room.
"Arrrgh!" Mrs Crown sighed.
"What do you think?" Emma asked in horror.
"I think Bethel might just be what Harry said. She looks nice to me.."
"No! She's a pretender! Mother, I'm sure she's here on a mission. She wants something, that's the reason she's acting all nice and sweet. Have you forgotten all what Steph did" Emma said, still pained from the past.
"Really.." Mrs Crown said, reasoning what Emma just said.
She might be right.
The last thing she wants is for someone to hurt her only son.
"And it seems brother is in love with her. That commoner" Emma said, burying her face in her palms.
"I've suspected that since we got here.. it's quite obvious" Mrs Crown said.
Just then, the door opened and Bethel walked in with Angel in her arms.
She greeted Mrs Crown and made her way to her room with the two bodyguards.
"She didn't say hi to me!" Emma whined and Mrs Crown laughed.
"You wouldn't have answered"
"Well.. yeah"
•••••••••••••••
Bethel hurried into Angel's room through the adjoining door, the little girl was just waking up from her nap.
She rubbed her eyes with the back of her palm.
"Hey there" Bethel smiled.
"I want to pee" Angel said, still rubbing her eyes.
Bethel led her into the bathroom, she washed her face after peeing.
She was fully awake by the time they walked back into her room.
"Do you want cake?" Bethel asked her as she sat her on her couch and switched on the TV.
Angel nodded.
"I'll be back" Bethel said and she went to get two slices of strawberry cake from the kitchen.
Angel ate her cake while she watched animation on the TV.
"I guess you've done your homework?" Bethel asked.
"Yes, Xavier and i did it together" Angel smiled.
"Be quick with your cake so we can go to the library okay?"
"Okay Mom"
"I'm coming... be right back" Bethel hurried out. She had barely taken three steps when Emma, Harry's younger sibling blocked her way.
"Hi" Bethel muttered.
Emma smirked and went straight to the point,"I saw your workshop and it was beautiful".
Bethel was surprised but she muttered thank you .
"It must have cost you a lot" Emma mocked further.
"Huh... no. Harry did everything for me, the only thing i bought in there was the tape measures, Harry did every other thing" Bethel said.
"It must have been so nice to have someone do so many things for you without you spending a dime, i bet you want that to happen more often" Emma taunted.
Bethel's hand itched to slap Emma. The girl has no respect for her at all.
Emma continued, " Ms Pretender, do you expect Harry to fall in love with you? Do you even know about our family? Do you know who my father is? Ohh sorry, you don't fit into our caliber. Annie is the rightful woman for...
"Emma!" Harry stopped her from making further remark.
"I'm sorry brother... i was just trying to chat with Bethel, you said i should be nice to her" Emma said.
"If that's the definition of nice to you, you should better go back to your books " Harry yelled.
"I.... we were chatting, she's fun to be with" Bethel's voice trembled. She doesn't want to be the reason he would yell at his sibling so she covered up.
She left immediately. Emma scoffed and made an attempt to leave as well but Harry pulled her back.
"Why didn't mother bring you up properly? I will soon throw you out of my house! You are spoilt! You're rude! You're proud! You're just 18, do you know how old Bethel is? Do you know how many sacrifices she has made for me!" Harry said to her face before finally freeing her hand. He left for the dinning area.
Just as he sat, a bodyguard came in.
"Sir, Miss Annie is here" the bodyguard report.
Harry raised his brows. He didn't invite Annie.
"Let her come in" Mrs Crown replied, "Bethel get the door" she commands.
Harry tightened his hold on his fork.
"I will get the door" his adorable little daughter interrupt, bethel already stood. She smiled and they left together.
"What is the meaning of all these mother!" Harry asked, his sea blue eyes glistening.
"Annie is a good girl. I invited her over for dinner at least you will both get to talk after dinner" Mrs Crown replied. Harry dropped his fork slowly.
"Sister Annie!" Angel squealed as Bethel opened the door.
The lady before Bethel was beautiful, classy, elegant, her white dress was extravagant. Bethel knew she emanated from wealth.
Oh she is the central minister daughter.
She has a vermilion colored hair that stopped at her mid back. When she smiled at Bethel, Bethel smiled back not understanding the feelings in her chest. She felt pain. Why is she feeling pain upon seeing Harry's fiancee?".
"Welcome" she managed to say.
"Thank you" Annie replied, cat walking like a high class model to the dinning area. Bethel trailed behind..
"Mother!" Annie smiled upon seeing Mrs Crown. She kissed the sides of her cheeks.
Bethel tried her best not to look at Harry. He must be happy seeing his fiancee.
"Hi" Annie's voice was angelic when she spoke to Harry.
Bethel heard no response from Harry, probably he smiled at her.
"Emma" Annie waved.
That was when Bethel looked up to see Emma's expression. The young girl had bashed her minutes ago. Probably she is happy seeing the lady she described perfect for her brother.
Emma smiled at Annie. Each time she looked at Bethel, she felt a beach of guilt tearing her apart. The words Harry said to her for insulting Bethel, it still rang in his ears.
"Why didn't mother bring you up properly? I will soon throw you out of my house! You are spoilt! You're rude! You're proud! You're just 18, do you know how old Bethel is? Do you know how many sacrifices she has made for me!"
Emma looked at Bethel, she saw the uneasiness in her eyes. She wanted to leave the dinning area, she noticed her brother couldn't stop staring at Bethel with the corners of his eyes.
She would leave the dinning area.
"Have dinner with us" Emma said, Harry was grateful when Bethel sat beside Angel. Even though she kept on avoiding his gaze, he is glad he can look at her face from a close distance.
Annie tucked her hair behind her ears, "Harry" she called sweetly.
No words, Harry lit his eyes.
"I never knew you've gotten a new nanny for Angel" Annie started.
"She is not my nanny. Dada said she is my Mom" Angel said with a mouthful of tamarind rice.
"What!" There was a huge gasp.
