Chapter 86: The Eclipse Within

Chapter 86: The Eclipse Within
“Don’t move.”

The voice slithered through the void, smooth, commanding, ancient.

Kara froze.

The thing before her shifted and folded, the light of the Eclipse bending around it like it obeyed its will. Its body was enormous, its face a blur of smoke and silver flame. Eyes too many to count glowed from within its form, watching her from every angle.

“You shouldn’t be here,” it murmured. “Not as you are.”

Kara clenched her fists, silver light bleeding from her palms. “I didn’t choose to be here.”

The creature chuckled a sound that made the entire realm vibrate. “You think the Eclipse cares for choice? It only cares for balance.”

“Then what do you want from me?”

Its eyes burned brighter. “I want what’s mine.”

It circled her slowly, the ground shifting and swirling beneath its presence.

“You hold the bridge,” it said, voice echoing inside her skull. “The path between life and death. Between shadow and flame. You have no right to it.”

Kara stood tall despite the tremor in her hands. “If you want it,” she said, “take it.”

The creature’s form rippled, coalescing into something more solid, a humanoid shadow cloaked in silver fire. It reached out, a clawed hand hovering inches from her chest.

“I intend to.”

The moment it touched her, light exploded.

Kara screamed as visions tore through her mind flashes of Lunar Heights burning, Alex kneeling before a shattered moon, wolves turning against each other under the bleeding sky.

“Stop!” she gasped, falling to her knees.

The creature tilted its head, almost curious. “You see now. The future written in your veins. The Eclipse consumes all and you, little wolf, are its herald.”

“I’m nothing like you.”

“You already are.”

Its voice was calm, almost kind and that terrified her more than its power.

Meanwhile Lunar Heights

Alex slammed his fist against the control table, scattering runes and maps. “It’s been hours! Why hasn’t she come through?”

Maya stood beside him, arms folded tightly. “Because something’s stopping her. Or someone.”

Lucas leaned over the flickering projection circle. “We can’t just wait, Alex. If that realm’s destabilizing, she’ll be lost for good.”

Cain’s tone was sharp. “Then we go in after her.”

“Through what?” Maya snapped. “The portal’s unstable. You want to get shredded between dimensions?”

Cain grinned faintly. “You say that like it’s a bad thing.”

Lucas shot him a glare. “This isn’t a joke.”

“It’s not,” Alex interrupted. “And he’s right.”

They all turned to him.

“We go after her,” he said simply. “Before the Eclipse takes her completely.”

Maya frowned. “And if it takes you?”

Alex looked up at the pulsing eclipse moon. “Then it gets more than it bargained for.”

Back in the Eclipse Realm

The creature’s hand pressed harder, and Kara’s light began to dim. Her knees hit the ground.

“Give in,” it whispered. “The balance demands it.”

“No…” she croaked.

Her vision blurred. Her heartbeat slowed. The realm around her twisted the black ground fracturing, the air turning liquid and cold.

“Do you feel it?” it asked softly. “The truth beneath your defiance? You were never supposed to return. You belong to the dark now.”

Her lips trembled but then, through the haze, she saw his face.

Alex.

Golden eyes. The promise he’d made.

I’ll always find you.

Something inside her snapped.

Her light flared wild, unstable, desperate but enough to make the creature stagger.

It hissed. “Impossible!”

Kara rose slowly, her silver fire blazing brighter. “You said I was the bridge,” she said, voice shaking but strong. “Then maybe I decide who crosses.”

The Eclipse snarled. “You defy creation itself.”

“I’ve done worse.”

And with that, she lunged.

In Lunar Heights, the ritual circle ignited.

Alex stood at its center, golden energy coursing through him, veins glowing beneath his skin. The pack stood around him Lucas, Maya, Cain, the mystics their hands raised, channeling every drop of strength they had.

The sky darkened, the moon pulsing violently.

“Almost there!” Maya shouted over the roar. “Hold it!”

Lucas gritted his teeth. “You’re tearing reality apart!”

Alex didn’t move. His gaze was locked upward. “Then I’ll tear it open wider.”

The eclipse above them split a jagged wound across the heavens.

From within, something screamed not in pain, but fury.

And then, for just a moment, Alex saw her.

Kara, standing against the darkness, silver and gold flames colliding around her.

He reached out his hand. “Kara!”

She turned eyes glowing, light bleeding from her palms.

“Alex,” she whispered, though he couldn’t hear it. “Don’t come through.”

The Eclipse’s roar shattered the silence.

Kara stumbled backward as its form fractured, tendrils of shadow lashing toward her.

“You cannot exist in both worlds!” it thundered. “You cannot hold both!”

“Watch me!” she shouted, thrusting her hands forward.

Light and dark collided, silver and black spiraling into a vortex that split the ground open.

The creature screamed, its form unraveling.

But as it did, Kara felt something tear inside her a burning, splitting pain that dragged her toward the rift.

“No!”

She reached for something, anything and her hand brushed against a thread of gold.

Alex’s light.

His bond.

It wrapped around her fingers like a promise.

And then everything went white.

The pack was thrown backward as the sky cracked open.

Lightning split the clouds. The eclipse shattered completely fragments of black and silver raining like stars.

When the light cleared, Alex was on his knees, coughing, the air heavy with burnt ozone.

And there, lying in the center of the circle…

Kara.

Her body glowed faintly, skin marked with silver patterns that pulsed like living light.

Alex scrambled toward her, heart pounding. “Kara. Kara, come on ”

Her eyes fluttered open.

Silver fire gleamed beneath her lashes.

“Miss me?” she whispered.

He let out a laugh half shock, half relief before pulling her into his arms. “You have no idea.”

But the joy was short-lived.

Because above them, the moon now half black, half silver began to reform.

And far away, deep within the rift they’d torn open, something vast and ancient stirred.

In the heart of the Eclipse Realm, where Kara had stood moments ago, the shadows began to gather.

A voice whispered through the void, smooth, patient, and cold.

“She carries the bridge.”

Another voice answered deeper, darker.

“Then we follow her through.”

The light in the void flickered once. Twice.

And then a dozen eyes opened in the dark.
