Chapter 3
I hadn’t planned on telling Mom. As months passed after he finally gave in to me, I would begin to swell in the middle and just say that it was the result of some random hook–up. With enough luck, I would be able to even convince Daddy of the
same thing. The only hitch with my plan was how horrible I felt
that I would be luring my dad into being unfaithful to Mom..
That was soon alleviated though, over wine with my mother. Our
meandering conversations soon found their way to a discussion
that changed everything.
“I wish there were something I could do,” I said after her
explanation of why she didn’t want to adopt.
“Not unless you can get one of your friends to let Dad knock her
up,” she said. Her speech was slurred from the wine, but then
again so was mine.
“Mom!” I said, my eyes shooting wide.
“What?” she asked. She grinned at me. “I told you, I don’t want
to adopt just any child. I want to raise Rich’s kid. I don’t care
what that takes.”
Her words had stunned me. I couldn’t believe what I was

hearing. “Forget it,” she said, noticing my shocked reaction. “He”

said he doesn’t want to go down that road.”
“What?” I asked. “You mean you told him you would be okay.
with that?”
“I told him I would be okay with anything that would lead to us
being able to raise a baby together,” she started. “I told him I
didn’t care if he went and got some girl knocked up, as long as I
got to raise it.”
“That’s…..surprising Mom,” I said.
“That I suggested it or that he isn’t going to go along with it?”
she asked.
“I dunno,” I responded. “A little of both.”
“I knew before I brought it up that he wouldn’t go along with it,”
she said.
“But he has a valid concern.” “What’s that?”
“He is worried that whoever he knocks up would try to keep the
child and make the whole thing pointless,” she answered. “You
know how he is. He doesn’t trust anybody to keep their word but
you and I. We know I am out of the question, and you…”

I shrugged without thinking about it and immediately regretted
Mom may have been a bit drunk, but that didn’t prevent her
from reading me like a book. Her jaw dropped open, and my
skin flushed hotly. The jig was up before it even began. I didn’t
see the disgust on her face that I would have expected from
somebody who just learned you were open to the idea of being
intimate with your own father and their husband. Instead, I saw
hope, excitement and a little curiosity. Suddenly she was more
energetic than I had seen her in awhile.
“You wouldn’t be against it,” she said. A Cheshire smile crept
across her face. “I knew you had a schoolgirl crush on him for a
while, but you wouldn’t be against it.”
I didn’t know what to say. What could I say? I knew that she
would immediately know if I lied. She knew my tells. I couldn’t
necessarily just tell her I would though, either. The burning in my
cheeks was becoming as hot as the sun as she waited for an
answer.
“Well don’t be shy now,” she said. “Spill the beans.”
“I mean…” I started. I was looking away from her. There was no way I could say what I was about to say and still be making eye contact. “…

Daddy’s hot.”
My voice was small, and the words came out more like at
question than a statement. I could see her in my peripheral
vision beaming with happiness that made me both nervous and
excited about where this conversation was going.
“He sure is,” she said.
Why was I so nervous? This was going better than I could have
hoped. I had spent so much time imagining doing the
unthinkable with Dad, and now it seemed more and more like it
wasn’t as far fetched as I thought it might be.
“Oh, if only you knew,” she started. “Would you actually do it,
though?”
I wasn’t sure if the question was rhetorical. I had never seen
such a wicked look on Mom’s face before, and I wasn’t sure if I
should be excited by it or terrified.
“Would you fuck him?” she asked.
“Mom!” I exclaimed. My face was likely a deep shade of red, but
more noticeable to me was the wetness I was feeling between
my legs as I squirmed at the question.
“What? I’m just asking.” she shot back. “Fine. How about I drop it. I’ll forget we even talked about it.”
