Chapter 59; Becca's regrets

It was when she was doing the headcount of all prominent family members and witches that Becca discovered that Lykie was still missing.

When Becca felt the seal enveloping the area, Lykie was the first person she tried to call but the girl didn't pick up, so Becca sent her a message.

Considering that she was the first person Becca ordered to go into the secret place, she was shocked that Lykie wasn't there yet. Without Lykie, Becca couldn't seal the place off, so she told everyone the witches with her to stay put and dashed out to go get Lykie while calling Lykie's phone.

Just as she was stepping out, she felt the wind go still. An ominous feeling engulfed her as she looked towards the sky.

Right in front of her, the stars disappeared and the moon seemed to be moving at a fast pace. Becca's eyes grew wide in shock. She had never witnessed such a thing before.

Forgetting her reason for coming out for a moment, Becca followed the direction of the moon and couldn't but gasp when she saw it stop right above KuLaa's head.

Enthralled, Becca witnessed the beauty of KuLaa's magic. And she was still mesmerized by it when the wand shot out…

When KuLaa's magic wand got to the entrance of the enchanted golden door, it pierced through it like a knife cutting butter.

Inside the room behind the door was the center of the protective formation. A magic circle surrounded the center and guarding it were seven witches. They were all waiting for Becca to come back so she could hold the center while they would give her support from all sides.

The wand entered at a terrifying speed. The witches felt its power but they couldn't see it with their eyes due to its speed.

After circling the room three times, the wand turned and headed for the center. Its pointy tip dived into the center of the formation.

"Kaboom!!!"

The moment it dived in and pierced through the center of the formation, everything exploded and the castle Split into two.

After the first explosion, a straight cracking line appeared in the middle of the divide and it continued cracking until there was a gorge separating the outer and inner parts of the castle.

After that, the ground on the inner side of the castle started breaking and coming apart like chunks of dried-up mud.

Vampires and humans started running helter-skelter. They started running out of the formation coverage range into the outer part of the castle where everything seemed to be calm and together.

The people on the safe side of the divide watched in horror as humans got swallowed by the ground while their vampire friends left them to die. It was a terrible sight to behold.

Then, some escaped the explosion and wanted to get off the land. They hastily made their way to the entrance of the Ræm's estate only to discover that there was an invisible barrier that they couldn't break no matter how hard they hit it.

The grounds were sealed off and nobody knew what to expect next.

Pandemonium soon rented the air.

Kulan hung in the air watching them with an expressionless face. It was as if this destruction had nothing to do with her.

When the land started swallowing people, Becca allowed it to swallow her. For a witch, breathing underground only requires a spell.

Because she could still feel KuLaa's presence, she waited until Kulan left and everything settled down before emerging from the underground.

When she came out, the look in her eyes was unsightly and filled with guilt. She knew that thanks to her unauthorized actions, the House of Ræm would cease to exist.

After that terrifying explosion that had the whole realm trembling, Kulan returned to her island and left the cleanup to her crew and Kurt who had now taken over the crew.

That day, the house of Kulan came across several manuscripts and information. But no matter how they searched, they couldn't find the transportation relic.

After accounting for the captives and wealth found at the castle, Kulan made the castle ground of the house of Ræm disappear from Epilica forever.

All it took was a spell and it turned into a very thick and dark forest where both vampires and humans dared not roam. To this day, when people go there, all they will see is a thick forest.

Back on the island, Amoux woke up due to the terrifying earthquake that shook the whole realm when Kulan blew the protective formation of the house of Ræm up.

He was shocked and for the first time, got scared of his grandmother.

Megan briefed the twins on the new development and their new statues. She told them to pack up because Alice would be coming over the next morning to show them their new courtyard. They have lost the right to live in the same villa as KuLaa.

Ainar, who felt it was all her fault, cried all night and promised to go beg her grandmother in the morning.

Considering how much Kulan doted on her, Ainar was sure that she would be forgiven.

The next morning, as early as 3 am, the hour when Vampires would be preoccupied with either drinking or sex while humans would be enjoying their sleep.

Megan heard a soft knock on her door. She and her kids were up all night and she had just managed to coax Ainar to sleep.

She got off the bed and quietly walked to the door.

When she sniffed out the person on the other side, Megan's eyes grew dark. The fury she kept buried threatened to break loose.

"What is it?" She asked with a stern voice.

"You should pack up and let me take you to your new courtyard. It is ready." Alice's voice could be heard from the other side of the door.

In anger, Megan opened the door and glared at her.

"You can't even wait to gloat? When are you going to get over yourself?" she sneered.

Alice looked her over and hissed.

"Gloat at who? You? Do you have an idea how pathetic you are? Why will I gloat at someone as useless as you?"

As Alice spoke, the twins woke up and listened from inside.

Hearing Alice speak to their mother in such a condescending tone, angered them to no end. They spontaneously got off the bed intending to go teach her a lesson. Even though she used to be their protector, they have long surpassed her in strength. Taking her down was as easy as breathing.

"Alice! Apologize to my mother!"

Amoux's words arrived before his body materialized beside his mother.

Ainar arrived at the same time as him.

Their eyes were blazing with rage and glaring at Alice.

"Really." Alice rolled her eyes at their display.

"I guess my efforts on you two are wasted." She snorted in anger.

Kulan was right. Your wings have become too big and need to be clipped. You dogs, are now biting your owners."

"Who are you calling dogs?" Ainar who was arrogant couldn't take someone calling her a dog. She wanted to charge at Alice but Megan stopped her immediately.

"Alice, enough." She grunted.

"Enough? Maybe you still don't understand. I am the boss of you now and you and your family have just been rude towards me. I will not let you go!" Alice's eyes also changed to red as her anger rose.

"You will not let us go? Tell me Alice, what can you do to us? For how long do you think Grandma will ignore us? You don't worry. After we settle our issues with Grandma, I will personally deal with you!" Ainar yelled as she completely lost her cool.

Megan started sensing the presence of other vampires and wolves in the area. They were either woken up by Ainar's high and squeaky voice or attracted by it. They then gathered outside to see what was going on.

Sensing them, Megan's heart clenched. She remembered how others were gossiping about her and her husband right in their face, the other night.

I don't mind this humiliation. But my kids, how are they going to cope?

She huffed and gave Alice a grave look.

"We will find our own way. Just tell us the number."

"Whatever." Alice rolled her eyes.

"I thought moving before daybreak was the best thing for you. How could I have known that you don't desire privacy? Now that you have woken up the whole island with your tantrums, you can start your walk of shame at any time. I also like a good show."

Alice dropped a piece of paper on the ground with a malicious smirk then walked away with her head lifted high.

To think, I wanted to help her move before everyone wakes up. What was I thinking?

Alice was mad at herself.

Hearing Alice's last words, Megan's face became red with embarrassment.

She picked up the paper and saw that it was the number and location of their assigned courtyard. She watched with a solemn gaze as Alice walked off without looking back.

How was she supposed to know that Alice wasn't trying to mock her? The vampire had been after her husband for forever and Megan was always on guard against her.

Deep down she knew that the only reason they both coexist was because KuLaa's rules prohibited killing among the crew members and family. If not, Megan would have killed Alice long ago.

This woman she hated with all her might actually had thoughts of helping her. Megan was confused and embarrassed. She was someone who takes note of grudges and favors but this was a favor she didn't know how to handle.

"Mum, what are we going to do now?" Amoux asked with a worried face.

"We will do as she suggested. It's better to move now when a lot of people are not looking. Both of you should go gather your things." Megan replied.

"Let's help you with yours first. I don't have much to pack here. Most of my things are in the town's villa." said Amoux.

Seeing Ainar's depressed look, Megan gently grabbed her hand and rubbed it affectionately.

"Everything will be fine Ainar. Don't be sad."

She and her twins returned to the room and picked up her bags. Megan wasn't an outgoing person so her clothes and possessions were limited. They all fit into two small traveling boxes.

Amoux carried one and Ainar carried the other.

On their way out, they also noted the life force of others who were monitoring them. This was very embarrassing and the twins couldn't hide their scowls.

"What are we going to do now mum?" Ainar repeated Amoux's question.

"When the day breaks, we will go get our job allocations. Before then, the two of you should go transfer your things from the Villa to our new courtyard. We will also have to get a house in town for you to stay when you go back.

"What?" Ainar whisper-screamed. "She is chasing us out of the family villa in town too?"

"Yes."

"But why? Everyone will know about this if we move out. Mum, why is Grandma doing this?" Ainar started crying.

She has always been arrogant and proud. Her Grandma was the most fearful and powerful creature in the realm. She was proud of that and made sure people knew about it. If they should find out that she has fallen out with her Grandma, wouldn't she become a joke?

"Mum, whatever it takes, I will do it. We have to beg Grandma."

"When next you see her, don't call her Grandma lest you offend her. She is now to be addressed as my Liege."

Amoux raised his brows in contemplation then asked, "Are we going to start kneeling too?"

"No. But we must always bow like every other relative." Megan explained.

Amoux nodded and kept his head down. Despite the calmness on his face, his heart was in a tumor.

Would I still be able to continue my research? This was the only thing Amoux was worried about.
