Chapter 57; Witchcraft II

Becca picked one very long and intimidating needle. It was at least four inches long and as thick as a broomstick.

She mumbled some enchantment on the needle then Injected it into Ainar's skin.

Lykie's eyes widened in shock as she trembled.

"You want to take her blood."

"Yes."

"Why?"

"I told you not to ask too many questions. It's not good for you to know these things."

"Why?" The more she was asked not to ask, the more Lykie wanted to know.

"Knowing could cost you your life," Becca said as she continued to push the needle along Ainar's vein.

Hearing that, Lykie twitched her nose and swallowed the next word on her tongue.

Once all the needle had gone in remaining just the tip of the needle where there was a tiny hole, Becca stopped and started invoking another long and complicated incantation.

While this incarnate was going on, Ainar was regretting her choices.

Kulan has always admonished them not to let anyone get a drop of their blood. They were not even allowed to let it drop into the soil. If it does, they must burn that spot of soil with fire or scoop it out and bring it home.

Because she wanted to steal from her supposed best friend, she forced her to bring her home. Then she got poisoned and instead of just expelling the poison and calling for help, she pretended to be affected.

Now that she found out that the reason they drugged her was to take her heart blood, Ainar felt her heart chill. She so much wanted to ask Amoux to barge in but to do that, she would have to wake up.

The witch in the room was definitely powerful. Her first spell wouldn't have been strong enough to break Ainar's skin if she wasn't.

To handle this woman, Ainar had to be careful.

Think! Think! Think!

As Ainar was thinking of what to do, a spell was passing through the needle. Once the spell entered her vein, it traveled up to her heart and tried to draw out her heart's blood.

Just then, Ainar's heartbeat increased and the whole heart shuddered. A bright green glow appeared around the heart and struck the spell. It dissipated immediately The impact caused Ainar to tremble from the counter-attack and blood came out of her nose but she didn't wake up.

Shocked, Becca frowned at Ainar's trembling body. Then she scoffed.

"Just as expected of a great witch like KuLaa. She actually sealed her granddaughter's heart. Isn't she afraid of the side effects?"

"What happened? Why is she shaking like that? She is bleeding from the nose!" Lykie exclaimed in shock. "Madam Becca nothing must happen to Ainar in our house. It will bring us trouble!" Lykie started shaking in fear. After all, her mother and father had warned her about this.

"Calm down. She will be fine. At least for now." Becca said with a worried tone. "KuLaa is quite ruthless." She muttered.

"What is a heart seal, Madam Becca?" Lykie asked as she watched Becca clean up the blood from Ainar's nose.

"It's a type of spell you use in protecting the life of a person, be it vampire, wolf, or man. If anybody should attack that person, the spell will protect their life but it will also burn their life span by at least ten years." Becca explained.

"And Kulan used it on her?" Lykie was shocked.

"Yes. The spell reacted now and dispersed my spell because it saw it as an attack on her heart."

"Wow! So what do we do now?"

"I already have her blood on cottonwood. I will draw directly from her vein. We can only hope it will be strong enough for what we want to use it for." Becca resigned with a little sadness.

"What do you want to use it for?" Lykie asked as curiosity was killing her slowly.

She was wishing Becca would forget and tell her what she needed to know.

"Like I said, don't ask." Becca rolled her eyes. She already knew Lykie's tricks.

Giving up, Lykie stared at Ainar's body. "When will she wake up?" Lykie asked.

"Once I finish drawing the blood, let her sleep for another ten minutes. She should wake up by herself by then."

"Okay."

Becca focused on Ainar's arm again and started another round of incarnation. Gradually, blood started dropping from the needle in Ainar's vein into a small tube.

Suddenly, Lykie's room was filled with a pleasant bloody smell. She couldn't resist sniffing in the air. Her nose led her directly to Ainar.

Lykie's eyes widened and turned red with greed as she subconsciously released her fangs.

"Control yourself," Becca warned with a stern voice, laced with magic.

Lykie couldn't resist it and instantly stood still obediently. But her eyes stayed on the needle with droplets of blood. Her greed was strong!

When the tube filled up and Becca removed the needle, Lykie grabbed Ainar's hand and wanted to drink directly from it.

"No!" Becca stopped her.

"Why? It smells so good!" Lykie cried.

"What do you think will happen if she smells her blood on you?" Becca asked.

Lykie's shoulders dropped and she could only watch as Becca removed the needle and instantly used magic to clean it on the spot.

Ignoring Lykie's pitiful whimpers, Becca took her time to arrange Ainar into a comfortable sleeping position.

After that, she left the room and two maids came in with trays of food.

Meanwhile, Ainar was relieved that it was finally over. She continued to pretend and patiently waited for the ten minutes to be over.

Once it passed, Ainar opened her eyes and saw Lykie, eating and watching TV.

She gave the girl a death glare and then quickly sent a message on her phone.

[They took my blood. Call Grandma!]

Unknown to both the twins and their parents, Kurt was the one following them around in the shadows since their failed family meeting.

When Ainar decided to visit Lykie, Kurt stayed outside to wait, also believing that Lykie, whom they had already checked out, couldn't harm Ainar.

He was waiting for Ainar to finish her meal and return to her chamber when he received a long-distance transmission from Kulan that Ainar was in danger. He wanted to go in immediately but Kulan asked him to wait for her signal.

The moment Amoux's phone received Ainar's text, Kulan also gave Kurt the go-ahead to make a move. By then, Ryan, Megan, Bella, and Alice were already surrounding the castle undetected.

On Kurt's order, they all brought out an enchanted strain of Ainar's hair and started using it to trail her.

In Lykie's room, Ainar expected a response from Amoux but got none. Due to this, she became anxious and it was her anxiety that spooked Lykie who was focused on watching a human show on TV.

Lykie turned around and found Ainar awake.

"Ainar! You are awake. Come eat. I left some for you." Lykie spoke in her usually excited voice. If not that Ainar had perceived her emotions before, she wouldn't have believed that Lykie hated her so much.

Presently, no matter how Ainar tried to sniff the scent of hatred, she simply couldn't find a trace of it.

How did she do it?

"What happened?" Ainar decides to pretend to be confused.

"I told you to take it easy on the wine but you didn't listen. By the time I came back with a new bottle, you were already asleep. I didn't wake you because I didn't want to disturb you. How do you feel? Do you have a headache?" Lykie asked, sounding very concerned.

"How long did I sleep?" Ainra asked with slit eyes.

"Surprisingly, you didn't even sleep for that long," Lykie answered as she grew thoughtful, realizing that twenty minutes wasn't enough for a drunk person to sleep and wake up. "Come, let's eat. The food is spicy. It will help with your hangover." Lykie quickly tried to use food to cover up the abnormalities.

Right now, all that was in Ainar's mind was how to leave this place and get her grandma to help her get her blood back. She scratched her head and faked a yawn. "I think I will leave. I don't feel like eating again."

"Are you sure? Did something happen?"

Lykie was spooked because of Ainar's words.

When Ainar told her that she would be eating dinner at Lykie's house, Lykie who had never brought a friend home told her that her parents wouldn't allow it. Unknown to her, Ainar somehow knew that Lykie's parents were not around. Ainar had gotten angry that Lykie lied to her so Lykie had no choice but to host Ainar.

Why would Ainar decide not to eat again after forcing her to cook? Did she discover something? Lykie was confused and worried.

"No. I just remembered something I was supposed to do with Amoux. He will be waiting for me." Ainar lied and moved towards the door.

Just as she was about to open it, an elephant horn trumpeted. It was the red alert signal of the house of Lord Ræm.

"We are under attack!" A male voice vibrated into the night.

Ainar immediately closed the door and bolted it at a very fast speed. She then turned around and in an Instant, her hand was wrapped around Lykie's throat.

"Ainar! What are you doing?"

Ainar glared at her with cold serpentine eyes, the color of which Lykie had never seen before.

"You will follow me home." Ainar snarled. She knew she was no match for the witch, so she decided to take Lykie as her prisoner.

Realizing what was happening, Lykie sneered back at Ainar. "So this attack, it's your family's doing." She wasn't asking a question.

"If you and your mother's witch didn't connive to take my blood. This wouldn't have happened. Where did she take my blood to?" Ainar demanded but Lykie just broke into a smile that reeked of insanity.

"Too bad, you are never getting it back."

"In that case, you will use the life of everyone in this castle to pay for it. I hope it's worth the price." Ainar could only threaten Lykie because she didn't know what to do.

"I don't think so." Lykie snorted and her eyes changed. She grabbed Ainar's hand that was wrapped around her neck and tried to rip it off but no matter how much she tried, it was futile. The hold on her just kept getting stronger. To her shock, Ainar didn't seem to be exerting any effort at all. Lykie got confused.

"You can stop trying. I am not your standard vampire." Ainar sniggered, Her eyes filled with disdain.

"To think I was planning to make you stronger as my sidekick. Take you on adventures around the world and convince my brother to marry you. What a joke. I picked you because you were nice, gentle and liked my brother. I was really stupid."

Lykie's eyes grew into slits as she glared at Ainar.

Ainar's words made her feel a little despondent, but then she shook the feeling off and prepared to fight. It was too late to feel regret now. She must concentrate on staying alive.

Truly Ainar was too strong. Nothing Lukie did moved her.

How come she didn't notice it until now? Why were her eyes purple and icy?

My mother and Madam Becca were right. Aminat is different!

"What sort of vampire are you?" Lykie managed to croak.

"I am not a vampire. I am more than a vampire! The strongest of all that the Moon Mother created!" Ainar boasted with pride. "It was your honor and blessing that I liked you and picked you as my sidekick and my brother's bride. How dare you betray me?" She furiously groaned as she remembered Lykie's words to the witch.

"If you kill me, you will never find your blood." Lykie transmitted to Ainar the moment her lungs collapsed.

"It doesn't matter if I find it or not. The moment you betrayed me, your fate was sealed." Ainar replied then hit Lykie in the back of the head, making her pass out.

After that, she swung Lykie over her shoulders, opened a window, and leaped out.

She thought of going through the corridors but knowing she was no match for Becca, she decided that it was better to get out of the castle as soon as possible.
