Chapter 534 Defected Organization
Chapter 534 Defected Organization
"Enough talk. Get someone to protect Olivia right now."
Olivia and Tobias were in such a remote spot, it was practically off the map. Even assassins would struggle to find it.
For now, they were safe.
Wesley had no choice but to follow orders. He hesitated for a moment. "Those guys looked like they were from some organization, but I can confirm they weren't from X."
Different organizations had their own distinct marks or ways of operating. After X sent a hundred assassins and failed, they declared they wouldn't take any more jobs involving Olivia.
An organization that big wouldn't go back on its word.
Daniel remembered this, too. The truth was, as long as there was money, someone would always be willing to risk their life for an assassination.
Daniel had mixed feelings about Tobias.
If it weren't for Tobias, Olivia would have been dead by now.
He had shown up around Olivia multiple times and saved her on several occasions. It was all very suspicious.
Everyone had their reasons for their actions, but this guy seemed to disregard his own safety, always putting Olivia first.
What was his motive?
In the small cabin in the woods, Olivia and Philip were huddled by the warm fireplace. Philip was dozing off in her arms.
He clung tightly to Olivia's arm, his voice pitiful. "Mom, don't leave me."
Olivia patted his shoulder reassuringly and looked at Tobias. "I get it. To stay safe, I won't go out for a while."
After hearing about what Tobias and the two kids had been through, Olivia felt a deep sense of guilt.
Tobias had only briefly mentioned their harrowing escape, but Olivia could guess that the mission's failure wasn't enough to make the organization blame Tobias entirely.
His real mistake was breaking the organization's rules by adopting the two kids.
Most assassins were orphans.
These people had no family ties and were willing to risk their lives, making them the perfect tools for the organization.
As an S-class assassin, the organization would never allow him to take care of two kids.
Tobias was expelled from the organization because of Philip and Alicia.
"Don't feel sorry. It was my decision. You did nothing wrong."
After saying this, Tobias looked at Olivia through his mask, his eyes serious. "The time I've spent with these two kids is the most precious part of my life."
Olivia could see that the kids had changed him a lot. His eyes no longer held just coldness but also a touch of warmth and concern.
Olivia wasn't sure if this change was good or bad. "No matter what, I have to thank you. I know you might not need my thanks, but I have to say it. Thank you for saving these two kids. Without them, I might not have made it this far."
It was the kids who gave her the strength to fight the cancer inside her. If she were alone, living or dying wouldn't make much difference.
Tobias shook his head and stood up. "This cabin's tiny, and there's only one bed. You and Philip should take it."
Olivia had noticed this when she first came in.
The cabin's guest area was all one space, with no walls separating the bed to keep it warm in winter.
When Olivia walked in, she took in the entire layout.
There was only one bed. If she and Philip took it, where would Tobias sleep?
Olivia felt bad about taking the host's bed.
Tobias seemed to understand her hesitation.
"You know my background. I'm used to roughing it. Having a warm place to stay is enough. You and Philip haven't been together long. He needs his mom. Go ahead."
After saying this, Tobias put a kettle on the fireplace.
Olivia laid Philip on the bed, tucked him in, and sat on the edge, watching Tobias busy himself.
About half an hour later, the water boiled.
"I know you like to stay clean. You can use this water to freshen up. I'll step outside."
Tobias was considerate. He poured water for Olivia and handed her a towel before stepping out of the cabin.
Now it was just Olivia and the sleeping Philip.
She picked up the towel, feeling a bit embarrassed.
Tobias was so thoughtful, and she couldn't help but feel like a burden.
The room was warm, but it was snowing outside. It must be freezing out there.
Olivia didn't want Tobias to stay in the cold, so she quickly took off her down jacket, revealing her smooth skin.
She wiped herself down with the hot water, washed her face, and put on her clothes. Then she called out, "I'm done. You can come in."
Tobias walked back in silently, emptied the used water, and leaned against a wooden bench.
"Sleep. I'll keep watch."
The room was comfortable. Olivia didn't hesitate any longer. She got under the covers, holding Philip close.
The blanket smelled nice, like snow or the forest.
Olivia clutched the corner of the blanket. Philip, like a little heater, kept her warm.
The sky outside was completely dark. The only light in the room, a lamp, was turned off. Olivia wasn't sleepy. She watched the little face she had missed so much.
Philip looked a lot like her. His eyes were clear and pure, without a trace of impurity.
His face was delicate, with a hint of brown in his hair. When he pouted, a small dimple appeared on his cheek.
Olivia gazed at Philip's delicate face, holding him like a precious treasure, and drifted off to sleep.
Maybe it was the long time on the run, but her dreams were restless.
She dreamed of finding the two kids, holding their hands as they walked down a snowy path.
Olivia didn't know where they were. The kids were smiling, but she felt empty inside.
At the end of the dream path, she saw Daniel's face.
The kids ran to Daniel, smiling, but Olivia's feet felt rooted to the ground. She didn't want to go near him.
