Epilogue

Epilogue
AIDEN

News of my return spreads like wildfire. The media goes wild with speculation about how I could have possibly escaped the explosion. I keep my responses vague, never breathing a word about the magical bubble that had shielded me. I allow the mystery to hang in the air, fueling a media frenzy that turns my survival into a legend.
Across every news ticker and social media feed, one headline reigns supreme: Aiden Mendes: The Man Who Walked Through Fire.
I make strategic appearances at various shows and events, laughing off the hosts' teasing questions about whether I have developed fireproof skin, an indestructible form, or the ability to teleport. To all their theories, I offer nothing but a knowing smile.
Raymond wraps me in a heavy, brotherly hug the moment he reaches me. "I'm so glad you survived that incident, Aiden," he says, patting my back with genuine affection.
"Do you assume I've developed a fire-resistant ability, too?" I ask.
"If you have, I’d love to test it out," Raymond teases, mischief and excitement dancing in his eyes. "But in all seriousness, what matters is that you’re alive. You're back, brother."
I nod, a small, triumphant smile tugging at my lips. "Right. I'm back."
Neil's reaction is, predictably, the most dramatic. He practically hoists me off the ground and twirls me around in his excitement.
"Neil! You're embarrassing me," I chide, laughing despite myself.
"I have to make sure you’re actually solid," he says, setting me down and quickly smoothing his suit to assume a more poised demeanor. "Welcome back, Group Chairman Aiden Mendes."
I grin. "Back with the dramatics already, are we?"
"I do it all for love, Boss," Neil says, clasping his hands together theatrically.
My father throws a massive celebration to mark my return. I spend the evening making the rounds—the board of directors, my executive team, and a long list of close associates. Everyone seems stunned yet genuinely delighted to see me standing before them.
The atmosphere is electric, filled with music and a Lucullan feast. It is an elaborate affair, with the media documenting every move and virtually everyone connected to our family in attendance.
For the first time since I’ve known him, my father-in-law, Jackson, seems to have truly let his guard down. He looks lighter and happier as he chats with Hermione. I suppose the absence of his scheming wife has done him more good than he was willing to admit until now.
As she does every day, Hermione looks resplendent. Her gown shimmers under the ballroom lights, complementing her radiant skin and dark, luscious hair. I approach them in a quieter corner of the party, my energy nearly spent after exchanging pleasantries with hundreds of guests. It has been a grueling day, and I want nothing more than to retire with my wife.
Hermione senses my approach before I am even within arm's reach; her eyes lock onto mine through the crowd. My soulmate.
Jackson follows her gaze, his expression softening at the sight of me. He is the one who seems most relieved by my survival—if only for the sake of his daughter’s heart.
"Coming to steal your wife away so soon?" he teases, a warm smile on his face.
"Pardon me, sir. But we've been apart far too long for me to survive another extended moment away from her."
Hermione draws closer to me as if pulled by a magnetic force, falling securely into my arms. Our eyes meet for a heartbeat, love radiating between us with an intensity that eclipses the room.
"I will leave you two lovebirds to enjoy yourselves, then," Jackson says, nodding before disappearing back into the crowd of guests.
"Thank you, sir," I call out as he leaves. The moment he is out of sight, I capture Hermione's mouth in an intense kiss, a silent promise of how much I desire her.
I love her so much it is a physical ache. Every second we were forced apart was pure torture. Now that we are reunited, I intend to make up for every lost moment and never let go again.
Hermione breathes my name weakly against my lips, her body trembling with a matching desire. "We have an audience, babe," she murmurs, her warm breath ghosting over my skin.
"Let them watch," I whisper back, stealing another kiss. "I can kiss my beautiful wife wherever I please."
Hermione looks up at me, her hands gripping the lapels of my jacket. "The things I want to do to you, honey," she shakes her head, a seductive spark in her eyes, "are definitely not meant for the public eye."
My eyes widen as a smirk spreads across my face. I pull her flush against me, my hand settling firmly on the small of her back.
"Then let’s make haste, babe. It’s high time we started on an actual mini-Aiden." I lift an eyebrow, my voice dropping to a low, suggestive growl as I seek her consent.
"Mini-Hermiones and Aidens," she corrects, her laughter vibrating against my chest—a sound more intoxicating than any vintage wine at this party.
A surge of pure, possessive delight floods my soul. I don’t wait for another word. I lead my wife away from the roar of the party, the music and the prying eyes of the media fading into a dull, insignificant hum as we move toward the sanctuary of our quarters.
The moment the doors click shut, the world outside ceases to exist.
I don’t give her a chance to breathe. I press her against the door, my hands framing her face as I drink her in, memorizing every line of her beauty as if I’m seeing her for the first time again.
There is no more media speculation, no more magic bubbles, and no more distance. There is only her scent, her heat, and the frantic beat of her heart against my palm.
"I almost lost this," I murmur against her skin, my voice thick with the realization of how close I came to never holding her again.
Hermione wraps her arms around my neck, pulling me closer until there isn't a sliver of air between us. "You're here now," she whispers, her eyes dark with a hunger that matches my own. "Don't ever leave me again."
"Never," I promise, my lips finding the hollow of her throat.
We fall into each other’s arms with a desperate, beautiful hunger. Tonight isn't just about passion; it’s about reclaiming everything the fire tried to take away.
The world outside is still searching for answers, obsessed with the man who walked through fire. Their curiosity means nothing to me. Within these walls, the only truth that matters is the heat of Hermione’s skin and the promise of the life we’re about to create.
I walked through an inferno to get back to her, and now, standing on the edge of our new beginning, I know that even the gates of hell couldn't stop what we are destined to become.
This time, I’m building a life so bright that no shadow—and no flame—will ever be able to dim it again.
