Chapter 13

"It's been three days now and you're yet to tell me about your complicated daddy issues," she said as she turned her body in his direction.

The darkness in the room was intentional. Both Paul and the lady he brought home always preferred that there was no source of illumination in the room at least, when there's nothing really important to do that needed light.

It didn't stop her from looking in his direction though as if she could actually see him perfectly well.

Paul, who was lying on his back and panting, also had his eyes open as though he was looking at something on the ceiling.

"This is the earliest I've done something like this," he said and paused to catch his breath before he could talk again. "Do you often have sex this early?"

"You're trying to avoid my question again. You don't have to tell me you know so instead of behaving like you didn't hear what I just said, you could just say you don't want to talk about it," she said, still looking at him.

"You got me," he said with a smile that she could not see even though she was still looking at him.

“Okay,” he began to say without turning, “I left my dad’s company some months ago. You see, things have never gone well between us.”

“Why is that?” she asked.

Paul turned around to look at her and saw that she was paying full attention to him. The room was lit up more than it was before as light entered through the curtains into the room.

“Second day together and I still don’t know your name,” Paul said.

“I just might tell you if you give me a good story,” she said, smiling.

“I have my job cut out for me then,” he said.

“So, why weren’t you guys close?” she asked again.

“Well, I was about 5 years old when my parents got divorced. My dad got my little brother, and my mom got me,” Paul said.

“I’m so sorry about that,” she said as the expression on her face changed from one of curiosity to sadness.

“Thanks,” he said.

“Anyway,” he continued, “It would be safe to say I would have preconceptions about my dad since you know, my mom had nothing really good to say about him. There was also no reason to doubt if she told the truth since I only got to see once a week and most times, he didn’t have time to show up.”

He paused for some seconds and stared into space as though he was trying to recall something.

“My mom died when I was seven years old, it was in an accident,” he said.

She didn’t say anything, the expression on her face said a lot and Paul was glad she didn’t try to console him. He was not really fond of that.

“I moved back with my dad that same day and was happy to be back with my brother even though I was sad about my mom. My dad got married the following month and I found out later that she was the one who came in between my mom and my dad,” he said and adjusted his position on the bed.

‘’It didn’t take me so long to realise that my mom was right about my dad; he rarely came home early and when he did, he barely talked to us. In fact, the only reason why he married this other woman was because it was not going to be easy taking care of two kids and he needed someone to do that for him.”

“What do you think of my story so far?” Paul asked her.

“Sounds like you had a terrible childhood,” she said as she touched his face.

Paul smiled.

“Anyway, my brother seemed to be fine with everything and that got him love from this new woman, not that our dad gave a shit anyway and that was the main reason why my brother and I had all the problems we had. He always went along with whatever they wanted, which always meant we were on opposing sides most of the time and barely cooperated on anything like brothers should. Looking back, I wonder if I could have done anything different with regards to the relationship with my brother, but maybe not, I am only a year and some months older than he is so it might be hard to say I should have behaved like a big brother when I was only just a kid like he was.”

“And what happened between you and your dad recently?” she asked.

“Well, he asked one of his pals to kick me out of her company and she did exactly that. I bet he expects me to come running back to him. He might prefer crawling to be honest,” Paul sneered. “Not going to happen!”

“What do you plan to do now?” she asked.

“I guess I wanted to keep drinking until I came up with a plan,” he said laughing, “but you disrupted that plan nameless girl. So, why don’t you tell me your name and maybe give me something, an idea I can work with.”

“I’ll give you something for sure,” she said, smiling nastily.

She moved closer to Paul and slid her right hand into the coverlet that covered his groin area. She was surprised to see that he was already hard.

“You’ve been waiting for me I see,” she said.

He was about to talk but he was too late. He began to gasp and looked away from her.

“Look at me,” she said slowly but authoritatively.

He obeyed.

The motion of her hand moved the coverlet up and down, slowly at first then really fast.

He tried his best to keep his eyes on her. It was hard, but he did it, until he couldn’t. At the same time, he gave a big gasp, his eyelids narrowed and his whole body shook a couple of times.

She brought out her hand and wiped it on the coverlet.

She stretched out her right hand towards Paul, which surprised him, but she spoke before he could say anything.

“I’m Helen and it was nice meeting you, Paul.”
