Chapter 158 ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY-EIGHT
Scarlett's POV

The journey to his room did not feel as gloomy as I would have imagined, but it turned out fine. My feet moved on auto-pilot, taking me step by step through the quiet, familiar corridors until I finally reached his door.

I knocked twice, then pushed the door open without waiting for an answer.

Blue was inside, reclining on the sofa bed with his shirt unbuttoned, leaving his inked torso on partial display. I stared for a second, wondering if his grand plan was to make me drool all over his abs so everything would magically be fine between us again.

I made sure to keep my face straight, even though I absolutely could not wait to hear the details behind those photos. Still, I reminded myself to keep an open mind, just like Jax had told me.

I crossed my arms over my chest, and for a long moment, we just stared each other down in complete silence.

Blue broke the spell first, swinging his long legs over the side of the bed to sit on the edge. He patted the space beside him softly. "Come sit."

I walked over and sat down beside him, keeping a modest distance between us.

Blue looked down at his hands, exhaling slowly. "I think I should first say that I am sorry about everything. Are you still angry?"

"Why not?" I replied, looking straight ahead. "Although I am more curious and confused at this point."

"What do you want to know?" Blue asked.

I turned my head and gave him an irritated look. "You already know what I want to know, Blue."

The air in the room grew tense and worriedly solemn. Blue nodded his head affirmatively, accepting the weight of the moment.

"You must have heard that Rowe worked with the Linden family," Blue began, his deep voice keeping a casual pace.

I nodded slowly to show him I was following along.

"We knew when Greg started to cause trouble," Blue continued, leaning his elbows on his knees. "Rowe got involved with almost every illegal group and vice he could find. The man was a greedy little shit, never satisfied with just one thing that was working fine for him. He was simply open for more chances and opportunities in the world."

I shook my head in not-so-surprised displeasure, clearly seeing that as a behavior Greg was capable of. He had always been restless, reckless, and hungry for things he couldn't afford.

"Soon enough," Blue said, turning his head to look at me, "your step-father was supposed to deliver an important piece of information, but it never made it to my father, even after multiple requests for it. It was likely that Rowe was holding onto it for some bizarre reason—maybe as leverage, or to give himself more freedom to act cocky with my father. But then he went and gave it to another competitor family instead. I have no idea what they threatened Greg with, amongst other things, if they even did. But either way, there was going to be hell for him to pay."

Before continuing, Blue stopped abruptly, eyeing my pale face. "Have you eaten dinner?"

"I'll eat when we finish talking," I said flatly.

"Have you gotten the food already?"

"No, I haven't," I answered.

Blue stood up from the bed. "I’ll be back."

He stepped out into the hallway, leaving me sitting alone in the room to process everything he had just dumped on me. So it turned out that what my step-father did to the Lindens was keeping a crucial piece of information from them and selling it off. I sat there wondering what that information could have possibly been about, and how it led to Blue ending up at our house that night.

A couple of minutes later, the door opened and Blue returned. He took his seat back on the sofa bed, intentionally leaving some space between us, like he assumed I wouldn't want to be anywhere near him at the moment.

I considered shifting closer to him, but decided against it. That would have to wait until after I heard how all of this actually concerned both me and him.

"Stan will bring some food soon," Blue said quietly.

I gave a brief nod.

"So, continuing from where I stopped," Blue said, his face hardening again. "My father warned Rowe a number of times. But Rowe was proud, and for some reason, he just continued living his life normally, like he was untouchable. So my father sent me to find Rowe and eliminate him."

My eyes widened in shock. The realization hit me like a splash of ice water, and everything started coming together in my head.

Blue was there at my house that night to kill my step-father.

Before I could process the implications of that revelation, a knock sounded on the door. Stan pushed it open, carrying a tray with a light meal and a glass of water. He walked over, set it down on the small table near the bed, and gave us both a brief nod before slipping back out.

Blue gestured toward the tray. "Help yourself to it, Red."

I shook my head slowly. I couldn't eat a single bite right now if I tried; my stomach was tied in knots.

"So that day," Blue picked up the story, ignoring the food for now, "it was like any other routine mission of putting down a person who had gone rogue and refused to listen to orders or instructions. My father sent me alone since that was always cleaner and quicker."

Right as he was getting to the most critical part of the story, another loud knock echoed from the door. I squeezed my eyes shut in frustration. These constant little interruptions were already getting on my last nerves.

The door opened without delay, and Tanner stepped inside the room.

"Boss," Tanner said, his voice unusually sharp.

Blue sat up straighter, his eyes narrowing instantly as he picked up on the tone in the guy's voice. "Anything?"

Tanner looked at Blue, his expression grim. "Yes."
