Chapter 16 Kiss*
The deep voice, as melodious as plucking strings of a harp, caused Lydia’s ears to redden involuntarily as she looked at Lambert’s outstretched hand.
He seemed to have seen through all her embarrassing moments!
Lydia suddenly recalled the phone call Lambert had made in the car earlier.
Could it be that the postponed meeting he mentioned was the collaboration meeting she was supposed to
attend?
A sweet sensation filled Lydia’s heart inexplicably.
When she snapped back to reality, she found herself shaking Lambert’s hand.
“Thank you, Mr. Halsey. Here’s to a fruitful collaboration!”
Lambert smirked. “To a fruitful collaboration indeed!”
Everything went smoothly thereafter, much to Lydia’s disbelief. Her confident demeanor left a lasting impression on Lambert.
Suddenly, he realized that this woman, apart from being helpless and amusing, had another side to her.
Lydia stood at the podium, presenting her meticulously designed creations one by one.
Her crisp voice calmly elaborated on the mutual benefits their collaboration would bring, backed by precise data prepared beforehand.
Unknowingly, Lambert felt moved.
As the meeting concluded successfully, both parties were highly satisfied. Lydia’s clothing brand penetrated the domestic market as a top–tier brand, sealing the deal on the spot.
Exiting the conference room, Lydia breathed a sigh of relief, only to find Lambert waiting for her at the door.
Her heart skipped a beat, and her cheeks flushed inexplicably.
“Coffee together?” Lambert’s words were merely a question, but the way he said it made it irresistible.
Lydia nodded slightly, obediently following Lambert’s lead.
“You helped me again,” Lydia suddenly spoke up, her long lashes lowering slightly, concealing her frantic heartbeat. “How can I thank you?”
Lambert halted in his steps.

They had reached the tea room adjacent to the conference room.
Without hesitation, Lambert grasped Lydia’s waist and led her inside. There was a hint of heat flickering in his deep black eyes as his sensual lips parted. “How about giving yourself to me?”
Lydia was taken aback, but she noticed the depth of emotion hidden in his eyes, making it impossible for her to discem whether he was joking.
However, the warmth of his hand on her waist accelerated her heartbeat, and her face blushed instantly.
“Mr. Halsey…”
Though Lydia uttered what seemed like an ordinary address, her voice, lowered in pitch, carried a hint of
intimacy, rendering it ambiguous.
In her eyes flashed a momentary embarrassment.
She truly had no intention of seducing him! She didn’t want to be treated as an easy woman, at his
disposal!
Lambert brushed his fingers over her temple, his obsidian–like eyes firmly locked on her face.
Lydia saw her reflection in those fiery eyes, her watery eyes shimmering under her long lashes, her petite
nose, and her alluring lips slightly parted, seemingly yearning for his kiss.
Her heart inexplicably panicked, and her gaze became somewhat erratic.
Every time she encountered this man, she felt unlike herself.
And Lambert, holding her in his arms, immediately sensed the woman’s unease. Was she shy? He curved
his lips, feeling delighted.
Just as Lydia attempted to push him away, Lambert lowered his head, his thin lips covering hers accurately. (1)
Their lips met, tongues intertwining, leaving Lydia’s mind blank in an instant.
Unlike their previous kiss, this time Lydia distinctly felt the tenderness in his touch.
Lambert’s lips lingered lightly at the corner of Lydia’s mouth, treating her as if she were the most
precious treasure in the world, so devout, so careful, irresistibly engulfing her in this kiss.
“Lydia…”
The low voice carried a hint of tenderness as it drifted from Lambert’s beautiful lips, seemingly more melodious than the most captivating music in the world.
Lydia felt her head spinning, her rationality and courage seemed to vanish in an instant, leaving only the madness of emotions shouting inside her to continue!

The atmosphere became ambiguous, akin to being in a dream, devoid of any semblance of reason.
“I heard the boss came to the company, is it true?”
“Of course, it’s true! I caught a glimpse from afar, he’s super handsome!”
“Wow… I missed seeing him, what a pity!”
Suddenly, voices from outside the tea room brought Lydia back to her senses. She felt ashamed and
embarrassed, along with a slight fear of being discovered.
She quickly pushed Lambert away, but his large hand around her waist pulled her back into his warm
embrace.
A hint of amusement crossed Lambert’s deep, ocean–like eyes as he whispered into Lydia’s ear, “Do you
want to be seen?”
Lydia’s body stiffened instantly.
This was absolutely not okay!
But the current posture was so ambiguous that it drove her crazy. It was all his fault! It seemed like every
time she saw him, there would be trouble!
She… she actually kissed a stranger?!!!
God, heaven, please strike her with lightning!
Lydia glared at Lambert fiercely, but the tenderness and amusement in his eyes made her blush even
more.
She buried her head in his shoulder, refusing to look at him.
Yet, she could clearly hear her own frantic heartbeat.
A thought crossed her mind–she was doomed this time!
When there was no sound coming from outside the tea room, Lydia finally pushed Lambert away with force and fled from Universal Conglomerate.
The sudden absence of her embrace made Lambert furrow his brows slightly.
However, seeing Lydia’s back, akin to a startled rabbit, he couldn’t help but curve his lips again.

Until evening, Lydia hadn’t snapped out of the embarrassing mood from earlier in the day.
She couldn’t help but feel annoyed with herself. Why was she always so easily entangled in emotions by

“Mom, Mom!”
The voice of her son, Wythe, pulled Lydia out of her thoughts.
She glanced somewhat sheepishly at her son, who had been staring at her the whole time, and coughed lightly to disguise her embarrassment. “What’s wrong, Wythe?”
Wythe lifted his chin towards the food in front of Lydia and said, “Mom, you’ve dropped your food outside four times already. Didn’t you always teach me to cherish food?”
Lydia lowered her head and saw the scattered grains of rice on the tabletop where she had been eating.
Apparently, while lost in thought earlier, she had unconsciously let the rice fall from her soup. Seeing the messy table and realizing the reason behind it, Lydia felt a moment of embarrassment, her face
reddening.
“Um… I’m sorry, sweetheart. It’s Mom’s fault. I shouldn’t have been absent–minded while eating and
should have cherished the food.”
Wythe, in an elegant manner, set down his soup and wiped his mouth with a napkin. Sitting upright, he
looked at Lydia, his usually expressionless face showing a hint of interest.
“Tell me, what’s the reason for your distraction?”
Lydia’s face reddened even more. Discussing matters of the heart with a five–year–old child was
something she couldn’t bear. It was too embarrassing.
Looking at her mother’s rarely seen shy blush, Wythe narrowed his eyes slightly. He seemed to have an
answer in mind. “Could it be? Mom, have you encountered a potential daddy candidate?”
Lydia glared at Wythe. “What nonsense are you talking about! Children shouldn’t speak randomly!”
“Really?” Wythe dragged out his voice, looking meaningful, far from resembling a child.
As Lydia panicked, she blurted out involuntarily, “Of course not, Mr. Halsey has just helped me a few
times…”
“Oh, so the potential daddy candidate’s surname is Halsey? Doesn’t that mean Uncle Fraine’s hopes are dashed? Poor Uncle Fraine!” Wythe lamented with a serious face, but Lydia knew there was a mischievous glint in his lively eyes. 15
Lydia felt so frustrated. Having a smart son was both sweet and painful.
“You brat, let me warn you. Don’t come up with any weird ideas. Mr. Halsey and I are just friends for now! Besides, I have many things to deal with temporarily!”

Wythe nodded solemnly. “I understand. It’s just a probationary period now. We’re friends, but maybe in
the future, he’ll become your boyfriend. Actually, Mom, I’m happy about it!”
Seeing her son’s serious eyes, Lydia’s heart gradually calmed down. She walked slowly to the other side of the table, reached out, and embraced Wythe’s shoulder. “Wythe, even if Mom likes someone and wants to bring them into our family, it must be with your consent. In this world, no one is more important to
Mom than you!”
Wythe’s soft face softened even more. “I feel the same way! Mom is the most important person to me. Until the daddy who can protect you appears, I’ll be Mom’s guardian angel!”
A softness filled Lydia’s heart as she hugged her son tightly, as if she had embraced the whole world! As long as her son was by her side, no matter what happened, she had no fear!
