70. One Day
**Andrew**
*When he caught a whiff of that girl's scent, she smelled almost just like Kimberley. She looked a bit like her too. That couldn't be a coincidence.*
*"Might I ask, is she around sixteen years old, has dark brown eyes and lives on the same street Mia Depp lived before she died?"*
*Donya froze but her reaction told him all he needed to know.*
*"Leo, you idiot!" Andrew exclaimed in frustration, holding his head. Donya watched him warily.*
*He composed himself, then got up and dusted his pants off. "Come on," he held out his hand. "We're going to get your friend."*
*She stared at it in distain. "You must be mad if you think I'll let you come near me again."*
*Andrew sighed as he ran his hand through his hair in frustration. "Look, there is a switch blade in the top drawer of my nightstand. If I try anything, just stab me in the jaw or something."*
*The human girl did as he instructed, not moving her eyes away from him. Finally she retrieved the knife. A heavy blade with a handle that also broke in half and cover the entire blade. It shined in the small bit of light from the window.*
*She turned to him, now armed. "If you try anything, it won't just be your face that gets stabbed."*
*Andrew nodded, then picked her up and jumped through the window without warning. Donya bit her hand to keep herself from screaming.
*He used his mind to Warp. Soon, they were back on the balcony. There, they found her, the girl called Serene, leaning on the railing. Leonard however was no where in sight.*
*As soon as he let her go she ran over to her friend. "Serene, are you okay?" But something wasn't right.*
*When Donya made her turn around they saw that Serene was struggling to breathe, and there was a bite mark below her jaw that pierced the skin. As Donya tried to touch her neck she quickly withdrew her hand. "Hot!" She muttered, holding her fingers and hissing. Andrew knew what it was.*
*"Let me take you guys back home," he offered. She shook her head, her back facing him. "Look, I know that you can tell I'm not human, and neither is he."*
*The blonde shook her head. "Please, I don't want to think about it right now. I just wanna go home."*
*"If I wanted to hurt you, I already would have. Please, let me take you home. I know how to treat her, too."*
*After a little reluctance, she finally said yes. "But," she added. "If you ever do anything to hurt us--"*
*"You'll slit my throat and feed me to the crows, yes, yes, I know." He had to move quickly before either Elaine or Henry smelled the blood. He took both of them into his arms, surprised by how warm her friend was, and Warped as far as his vision allowed him to go.*
*He was not as skilled as his peers when it came to his inherited talent at the time, at least not as skilled as he heard the other nobles were. Every once in a while he had the stop and catch his breath, promising that they would be there soon. Over the course of the travel he could feel that Serene's body temperature had cooled down, but she looked pale and didn't seem capable of comprehending the world around her. "Just a little further," he reassured them. Donya said nothing, choosing to remain silent as she hide her face in his neck.*
*Just like he'd promised he dropped them off at a park bench, close enough to the fence for the orange streetlight to highlight their faces, but not enough for a passerby to notice them.*
*Andrew laid Serene gently on the bench, right beside a shaken Donya that placed her friend's head in her lap. He glanced at his watch. It took half an hour for them to get there, which considering it was over a hundred miles to get to Standrick from the palace, getting there at such a short time through Warping was progress. He reached into his back pocket and took a flat metal tin out of it. Considering Leonard never used it, he was sure he wouldn't mind.*
*He twisted it open, taking the lid off. Inside revealed a clear substance that gave off a golden glow. Before he could place it under Serene's nose Donya stopped him. "What is that?" She asked. Andrew calmly replied. "It's essense. It's not mine, but it can help her get back to her senses." Donya seemed skeptical. "Please, let me help." She sighed but nodded. In an instant Serene inhaled the substance and her breathing pattern slowed. However, now she was completely knocked out. Andrew sighed in relief and stood up. "Do you want me to take her home?" Donya shook her head. "I'll be able to handle it, thanks." She removed Serene's clips, allowing her wavy brown to flow out of her lap and over her knees. "But although you helped me, I'll never forgive what your friend did."*
*Andrew nodded. "I figured as much." He began to leave, but spun back around. "May I know your name at least?"*
*For the first time that night, she allowed herself to smile at him. "No way in hell, Creepy Jumping Guy."*
*Instead of feeling offended, he laughed. "The name's Andrew. And I have a feeling we'll see each other again pretty soon."*
*He left then, smiling in amusement.*
*His only worry now was whether or not he should tell the Kings what he found out.*
Andrew thought over his actions those two years ago, and the girl who never left his mind since that night. He found her the next day pretty easily, after all, there was only one highschool in Standrick. A big one at that. Compelling the principal and other members of staff was easy when these humans didn't even know how to protect themselves. He got the information that he needed very quickly that way, enough to create files for the two girls. However, he feels he shouldn't look down on them since he was a human too before he became a vampire through the Rite. No vampire relatives of any kind. A pure simple human being. If he had not been the one who saved his entire village, he would have never been where he was today.
He wondered if Donya would be interested in hearing the story one day.
"Drew. Drew!"
Andrew turned his attention to his mother, face hosting an indifferent expression. Justina must have thought he refused to answer because he was upset with her. She pinched her nose and looked down.
She sighed. "One day you'll see why we do what we do, Drew."
He reached over and held her hand. She gripped his in reciprocation.
Andrew returned his gaze to the window. If only the sun would set a little faster, how great that would be.
