Chapter 23

Logan

Four days. It has been four days since all the girls moved into my apartment. I can handle living with three extra people, but there’s a difference between living with three females and a little girl and living with three strippers and a little girl. All three are way too comfortable with nudity. Especially Courtney. She eats her breakfast in her underwear most days. Megan and Yasmin aren’t much different; their robes are short or leave little to the imagination. It’s killing me.

Right now, I’m in the pool, swimming my sexual frustration out. It’s Megan who is worse. I can’t stop thinking about her. I see her nearly all day. She’s started to use my gym, which is distracting, and then I see her at Masked whenever I’m there to meet with Elena. I’ve had to ask her to meet me at my office instead.

Ella was excited to know she would be living here for a bit. Megan had told her it was because a pipe burst, so everything needed to dry out and be cleaned.

I pull myself out of the pool just as Megan and Courtney walk in. They stop, and I watch Megan’s eyes trail down my body and back up again in an appreciative look. Courtney does the same, but I can’t take my eyes away from Megan. She’s in a simple black sports bikini, and her hair is in two plaits.

“S...sorry we didn’t know you were in here,” she stutters.

“It’s ok, I’ve finished,” I tell her. I’m going to guess she had the same idea as me. Every day, we run into each other in the gym, and I don’t miss the stolen glances from her because I do it too. We’ve not spoken about the kiss we shared in the Hamptons. It didn’t help that we were all over the internet on most gossip websites. I think it scared her. I wish I could tell her that it won’t happen again, but I know it will.

Since I announced that I’m single, I’ve been called the eligible Bachelor in New York. It seems to have gotten worse once I posted the picture of Ella and me. I try not to read what is written about me, but my assistant tells me things she deems necessary. I wish she was like Dylan, my work secretary; he doesn’t care about gossip magazines.

Over the past couple of days, I’ve been trying to build up the courage to ask Megan out to see if she’s willing to go on a date with me. David and Carl think my predicament is hilarious, and they tell me I should grow a pair and just ask her.

“Megan,” I say as she walks past me. She stops and turns to me as she holds her towel up to her abdomen.

“What’s up?” she asks.

“I urm,” I scratch the back of my head and look down away from her forest-green eyes. She makes me nervous. I close my eyes and take a breath before looking at her again. “Are you working tonight?” I ask.

“Yeah, I’m in the lounge,” she tells me. “You should come. I think my dad and Sara are coming. It’s their date night, and I got them free tickets,” she explains.

“What about Ella?”

“Lorraine asked to look after her, so we’re all free tonight. Courtney is going on a date,” she tells me.

“Finally getting laid. It has been too long,” Courtney says with a sigh. I frown at her as I’m pretty sure she slept with Carl in the Hamptons.

“It’s been four days,” Megan says to her.

“We didn’t have sex,” she states. “We fooled around, totally different,”

“Anyway,” I say, dismissing that conversation. I don’t need to know what she and Carl get up to. “Sure, I’ll be there. Do you want to go for a drink afterwards?” I ask.

“I’m actually getting drinks with my dad and Sara. You’re welcome to join us,” she says. I nod, feeling a little defeated. At least it’s not a rejection. But it’s not a date. I watch her move into the pool and start her swim.

“Smooth,” Courtney says, getting my attention. I look at her to see her smiling at me. “Just ask her out,”

“I did,”

“Use the word ‘date’ next time,” she tells me.

“I don’t think she will want to,” I say.

“You’re scared of her rejecting you?” she asks. I don’t reply. “So she says no, it’s not the end of the world. She will only say no until she’s ready,”

Megan loves me, but I hurt her and broke her trust. That’s the problem. What if she’s never ready to get back with me. Some people don’t ever get over that. I sigh in response and shake my head as I reach for my towel.

\----

The atmosphere in The Lounge is different tonight. It usually is when Megan is performing. From the look of things, there’s more couples and elite members in on these nights. I’d notice most of the members were men that are here to network. A couple of times, I’ve had many come up to me asking if they can talk to me about some business venture they want me to participate in. The answer is always no that they have to set up a meeting through my assistant.

The scents of alcohol, perfume and cigar smoke mingle in the air around me. Every so often, I get a whiff of food from the restaurant half of the lounge.

“She doesn’t like it when you watch,” I hear a heavily frenched accent say to me. I look to my left and see Elena standing in a skintight red dress with thin straps. Her hair is tied up in braids that come down to her bottom. She holds a crystal tumbler out to me with a measure of whiskey- I take it from her and grunt my thanks before turning back to the stage.  Elena stands next to me and leans against the rail I’m standing at.

“She invited me, actually,” I tell her and glance at Elena to see her watching me. She sips her drink and then gives me a slight smirk. Sometimes I get the feeling she doesn’t like me all that much. I think it’s to do with my relationship with Megan.

“Tell me something. Did you know the paparazzi were at the Hamptons? Or was that just a perfectly timed place to be for that lucky photographer?” she asks.

“They follow me all the time,” I tell her and look back at Megan as she walks out on stage to start a song on the piano. “Even more now they know I have a child, and I’m single,” I tell her. Megan is dressed in a champagne coloured silk backless long dress with a high split up the leg. She has a dark orange wig on, with her green eyes, her hair looks natural. The mask she’s wearing tonight is red lace that seems to match her underwear if the garter belt straps are any indication.

“Tell me, what’s going on with you two?” she asks. I sigh and look around the room until my eyes land on Brett with Sara, David and Lorraine. It would seem to be a double date.

“Nothing,” I answer and look back at Megan to see her lost in the song she’s singing. “We are two people who happen to have a child together,”

“She’s living with you at the moment,” she states.

“So is Courtney and Yasmin,” I counter. After a moment, I decide to tell her what I’m thinking. “I’m not sure what is happening between us. I want to be with her, but she doesn’t trust me. All I can do is show her that she can, that she and Ella are the only two women in my life I will ever love and who are always going to be my priority.”

“Actions speak louder,” she tells me.

“Yes, they do,” I say and watch as Megan finishes the song.

For the next couple of hours, I watch in silence as Megan exudes confidence through her alter-ego. Aphrodite is much more daring than Megan. She is confident and strong. Megan may see this side of her as someone different, but I don’t. Megan is all those things with or without the mask.

When Megan finishes her set, I make my way into the back towards her changing room. I knock twice and then hear a soft call to come in. Slowly I open the door and see her with the wig removed but the mask still in place. She sighs in relief and takes the mask away from her face. I notice the flowers I had brought on her dressing table and smile a little.

“You got them,” I state. She smiles and strokes the pink lilies. “I took your advice,” I say as I walk towards her. She’s not wearing heavy make-up today, just a black wing and bold red lipstick.

“They’re beautiful, thank you,” she blushes a little and turns to look in the mirror. I take in her svelte figure from her bare slim back, the narrowing of her waist and the delicious curve of her hips. This dress is sinful. “Logan,” she says, diverting my attention from her round pert derriere to her forest green eyes reflecting in the mirror at me. She caught me.

“Yes?” I ask as I move my hand to the thin strap of her dress. I don’t take my eyes from hers as I trail my fingers over her shoulder to her neck. She dabs at her make-up with a sponge as she tries to conceal how I make her feel. But I know how I make her feel because she makes me feel the same.

“Did you want to ask me out on a date earlier?” she asks. My hand freezes, and I feel my heart beat a bit faster. Flicking my tongue over my lips, I decide to answer with a question.

“What would you have said if I was?” I ask as I trail my fingers down her spine.

“I’m not sure,” she says breathlessly. “You never asked,” I step closer to her and move to press against her.

“What if I’m asking now?” I ask against her ear. She smells divine, like strawberries and chocolate. I move my hand around her waist. The other I trail up her exposed thigh. She moves her hand to mine, stopping my pursuit. She turns in my arms and pulls me close to her.

“We should talk, first,” she tells me as her hands move up my chest. I move closer to her, and she looks up at me, a sliver of space between our lips.

“We should,” I agree. My eyes search hers for anything that tells me to stop. “Later,” I add.

“Later,” she agrees and presses her lips to mine.

Moving her back a little, she moves onto her vanity. She bites my bottom lip drawing a groan from me. I kiss down her neck; as I squeeze her hard nipple, I can feel through the fabric of her dress. A moan escapes her, and fuck if it’s the best thing I’ve ever heard. Her hands move to my belt buckle as my other hand touches her underwear to feel just how wet she is.

A knock sounds on the door, and then it opens. We pull apart quickly and look to see Sara and Lorraine standing at the door.

“Sorry,” Sara says as she eyes us both. “We came to see if you were ready.” If our dishevelled clothes and hair weren’t a giveaway, then the apparent awkwardness between Megan and I are.

“I’m just leaving,” I say and run a hand through my hair. I look at Megan to see her watching me. “I’ll meet you out there,” I say to her. She nods, and I don’t miss the heated gaze she’s giving me. I lick my lips and clear my throat. “Yeah,” I say awkwardly before tearing my eyes from her and walking towards the door.

“Logan,” Lorraine says once I walk past her and Sara. I look at her. “Your belt,” she tells me. I look down to see it undone and the top button of my trousers unclasped.

“Thanks,” I say, and quickly fasten everything back up. I glance back at Megan to see the blush on her face. Maybe I should feel like what we were about to do was a mistake, but I don’t. She didn’t reject the idea of us going on a date, so I am far from thinking anything we do is a mistake.
