Chapter 148 Will you marry me?
JASMINE
He had cocked his head, a crease forming between his brows. I giggled, wrapped my arms around his neck, and hit play. He got on board quickly, pulling me across the room as my feet followed his in perfect sync. His grin had returned, a knowing look in his eyes.
"This song is just perfect for us," I had beamed.
He had chuckled lowly and shaken his head at me. "Our song," he had whispered before leaning down to capture my lips.
I giggled softly as his forehead met mine now, snapping out of the memory. A look of pure bliss and serenity filled his eyes. We started moving slowly to the beat, our steps perfectly in sync. His hand caressed my hips, lighting my insides on fire.
We danced in comfortable silence, our eyes saying everything words couldn't. The raw love and want in his gaze made butterflies flutter wildly in my stomach.
"Everything is so beautiful, Damien. I love it," I whispered, never looking away from his eyes.
"Anything for you, my love," he replied with a soft smile. He took hold of my hand, pulled back slightly, and spun me around gracefully. My frame glided across the floor before he pulled me back into his arms and claimed my lips.
His hot tongue delved into my mouth, finding mine and stroking it with passionate urgency. He kissed me with such need and underlying craving. The way he claimed me, sucking on my tongue, pulling my bottom lip into his mouth and devouring me, made my insides throb with want. I needed him. Every inch of him.
He finally pulled away, pressing a soft kiss to my forehead. His calloused hands cupped my cheeks as he stepped back, leaving me breathless with a protesting pout on my lips.
Then he got down on one knee, still holding my hand.
At that moment, my breathing stopped completely. Everything seemed to slow down as he reached into his blazer and pulled out a small velvet box.
"Jasmine, my love, my woman, my world," he began, his voice thick with emotion. "You're the only one for me. My salvation. You're my personal dose of pure euphoric bliss, and I don't mind getting drunk on you. From the moment I saw you, I knew I was fucked." He chuckled softly, shaking his head at himself.
"I knew I'd do absolutely anything for you. I was completely love-struck. You had me under your control and you didn't even know it. Or maybe you did, but it never stopped you from claiming my heart, my soul, and my entire being in every way possible. Those big brown eyes of yours put me under an everlasting spell. I fell for you so fucking hard it hurt. Whenever those sweet lips of yours curved up into a smile at me… Jesus Christ, I almost melted. The way you touched me branded me forever."
"Every day I dreamed of you. And whenever I woke up, you'd be lying peacefully in my arms and I'd think I was still dreaming. Fuck, I never wanted to wake up. You are like a dream to me. I pray for you every single day, wishing on whatever higher power there is that you would remain with me for as long as I breathe." His eyes softened, and I thought he might actually cry.
"When you were stabbed… I died a little every single day. I lived, but I wasn't alive. God knows I was just a shell of a man. The moment you were pronounced alive, I felt like I had been saved. When I saw you again after a year… it was pure torture at first, but then it was like life had finally been breathed back into me, reviving every dead part of me."
"You are the love of my life, tesoro. I would die and come back if it meant I'd get to meet you all over again. From the moment I saw you, I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you. And I don't care if that sounds cliché it's true." I shook my head at him, sniffling as tears pricked my eyes.
I couldn't stop the smile that spread across my lips as I watched the man I had fallen hopelessly in love with say the words I'd always dreamed of hearing.
"I don't know a lot about love. But someone once told me that if you love someone, you'd do everything in your power to see them happy even if it meant not being with them. To me, that's bullshit. Because without you, I'd die. I would never let you go, tesoro.
Fuck any therapist who tells me otherwise. I absolutely adore you, baby. The mere taste of you drives me crazy. I'm mad over you, and I don't give a fuck. I'm completely and utterly yours. I want to spend the rest of my life waking up to your beautiful face every morning.
I want to spend the rest of my life making you pancakes because you'd be too grumpy to do it yourself. I want to spend the rest of my life listening to you complain about every character in every movie. I want to spend the rest of my life showing you just how much you mean to me, because words could never do it justice."
"I want to rub your swollen belly and massage your feet when they hurt from carrying our babies. I want to hold our children in my hands and kiss them all day, loving them so much because they're a piece of you. I would forever thank whatever brought you to me, because you are my salvation."
He paused, his voice steady but full of emotion. "Jasmine Scott… will you marry me?"
He finished by opening the small box, revealing a stunning diamond ring. Everything came crashing over me at once. I stared at the man I would give my life for, the very reason for my existence, the love of my life. Tears rolled freely down my cheeks as I nodded frantically. Yes!
"Words, baby," he instructed gently, grinning up at me.
"Yes!" I gushed, an overwhelming wave of happiness and love filling my chest and warming every part of me. "But you have to get me a puppy."
