Chapter 39 Leaving my heart behind

Chapter 39 Leaving my heart behind
Chapter 39

Julian's POV

I woke up and saw Sophie sleeping peacefully next to me. The morning light filtered through the curtains, casting a soft glow over her features. I couldn’t help but smile at how serene she looked, her hair splayed across the pillow like a halo. Carefully, I wriggled myself from under the covers, trying not to disturb her, and quietly made my way into the bathroom.

My flight was at eight this morning, and I still had a few things to prepare. I pulled off my boxers and let them drop to the floor, stepping into the warmth of the jacuzzi. The jets massaged my back, and I closed my eyes, allowing the soothing bubbles to wash away the remnants of sleep.

Just as I was starting to relax, I heard a voice that pulled me from my thoughts. “Are you planning to leave without letting me know?” I opened my eyes to see Sophie standing at the entrance of the bathroom, arms crossed.

“Of course not,” I replied, chuckling softly. “I was planning to wake you when I was fully dressed. I didn’t want to disturb your peaceful sleep.” I gestured for her to join me. “Oya, come, baby.”

With a playful glint in her eyes, she stepped into the tub. I helped her pull off her pants, the fabric sliding down her legs, revealing the smooth skin beneath. The water shimmered around us, and I could feel the warmth radiating between us as I unhooked her bra, letting it drop to the floor beside the tub.

As she settled on top of me, her soft boobs pressed against my bare chest, I couldn’t help but let out a contented sigh. “You know, you could have just come in and joined me from the start,” I teased, my fingers brushing through her hair.

She laughed softly, the sound like music to my ears. “Well...I love when you make the move first.” Her eyes sparkled with mischief as she leaned in closer, her lips brushing against my ear.

I felt a warmth spread through me, and I wrapped my arms around her, holding her close. “Well, I’m glad you’re here now,” I murmured, tilting my head down to meet her gaze. “We should make the most of this before I have to leave.”

She smiled, her cheeks flushing slightly. “Let’s not think about that just yet. How about we just enjoy this moment?”

I nodded, and we settled into a comfortable silence, the gentle hum of the jacuzzi enveloping us.

“Tell me something,” I said suddenly, breaking the tranquillity. “What’s the first thing you want to do when I get back?”

Sophie bit her lip, contemplating. “Hmm...go on vacation?” she replied with a smile.

“Sounds perfect,” I said, my heart swelling at the thought.

She leaned in to kiss me softly. The kiss deepened, and for a moment, I wanted to have her right there. My hand slid down her back, pulling her closer...but I stopped myself, remembering that I had to leave soon. I didn't want our last moments together before my flight to be rushed or distracted. I wanted to savour every second, every touch, every kiss.

I pulled back, my eyes locking onto hers. "I have to get going soon," I said, my voice low and husky.

Sophie nodded, her eyes clouding over slightly. "I know," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

I wrapped my arms around her, holding her close. "I'll be back before you know it," I promised. "And when I am, we'll plan that vacation, just like you said."

She smiled, a hint of sadness still in her eyes. "I'll hold you to that," she said.

I kissed her again, this time softly, tenderly. I felt her relax into me, her body moulding to mine.

Finally, I reluctantly pulled away, my heart heavy with the knowledge that I had to leave. "I have to get dressed," I said, my voice firm.

Sophie nodded, her eyes never leaving mine. "I'll get out," she said.

I helped her out of the tub, as i got out after her.

We wrapped ourselves in soft towels and made our way back into the room to get dressed. As we rummaged through my clothes, she playfully assisted me in organizing my belongings, folding shirts, and sorting through my scattered shoes.

"I think you need to bring your clothes here when i get back, because we can't be going into your room, every time." I said, and she nodded as I went to her room to pick up her clothes and underwear.

Once we were dressed, we headed downstairs for breakfast. Just as I took a hearty bite of toast, my phone rang. The caller ID displayed Marcus’s name.

"Where are you? Your flight will take off in fifteen minutes," he said, as soon i picked up, his voice tight with impatience.

I muffled my response with a mouthful of bread, "I will be there soon." I stood up quickly, the chair scraping against the floor, and Sophie stood up as well.

We hurried outside, the brisk morning air hitting us as we climbed into the backseat of the car. The driver, sensing our urgency, pulled away swiftly, weaving through the early morning traffic toward the airport.

When we arrived, I spotted Marcus at the checkpoint as he collected my luggage and quickly headed to the checkpoint, and came back immediately.

"Let's go. The plane will take off in four minutes," he urged, glancing at his watch as if time was slipping away.

I nodded, my heart racing as I turned to Sophie. She stood there, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "Are you always this babyish? This was how you were crying when Evelyn was leaving the other day," I teased, trying to lighten the mood. A chuckle escaped her lips despite the tears threatening to spill.

"I should get going now," I said softly, the weight of departure heavy in the air.

“Make sure you call me immediately you land,” she insisted, as she moved closer to me, adjusting my tie.

"I will, baby," I promised, pulling her into a warm embrace. Her body felt small and fragile against mine, and I wished I could linger in that moment a little longer. I released her slowly and pressed my lips to hers in a gentle kiss, feeling the warmth of her breath. "Bye, baby," I said, with a smile.

As I turned to leave with Marcus, I glanced back one last time, waving at her, trying to capture her image in my mind as I stepped into the plane.

Settling into my seat next to Marcus, I tightened my seatbelt, the familiar click grounding me in reality. I switched off my phone, the screen darkening as the roar of the engines filled the cabin.

The plane began to taxi down the runway and then took off into the sky. The clouds enveloped us, and I stared out the window, watching the world shrink beneath us.
