Stephanie woke up and it was already light outside.
The morning sunlight slanted in through the window, bright with a pale–yellow glow.
“Steph, you were awake!”
McKayla’s voice came through.
Stephanie, who had just woken up, was still a bit confused. Seeing the worried McKayla and Jeremiah by her side, the pain in her body hit her, and she remembered everything.
“I…”
Stephanie just said one word, then stopped.
The pain in her body and the bright red blood before she fainted all gave her a bad feeling.
“Steph…” McKayla carefully helped Stephanie sit up and told her sadly, “The baby is gone.”
Stephanie opened her mouth to say something, but in the end she just closed it, looking dazed/
She was silent for about half a minute, then lowered her head and said, “Mm.”
It looked like there wasn’t any reaction.

No happiness, no sadness at all.
Very calm response.
McKayla and Jeremiah looked at each other. In the end, Jeremiah walked over and said to her, “Stephanie, just get some rest and take care of yourself for now.”
“You were lucky you didn’t break any bones when you fell down the stairs, but you still had soft tissue injuries, the mild concussion from the hit wasn’t better yet, and there was also the miscarriage…”
As he spoke, Jeremiah’s tone got softer, like if he spoke any louder, Stephanie would suddenly disappear from this world.
He said, “That music show, I already recommended it to you first, and then…”
“I want to join.” Before Jeremiah could finish, Stephanie had already spoken.
The hands hidden under the quilt were clenched tight.
Fingertips pierced into the palm, blood oozed out.
It hurt.
But it made her feel more real.
Stephanie sat by the head of the bed, her face showing no joy or sadness.
She looked up and looked at Jeremiah.
She said, “I could.”
“But the first livestream was in just three days.” Jeremiah said

worriedly, “Your body…”
“I can,” Stephanie repeated calmly. There was no joy or sadness in her
voice.
The fists under the blanket were already clenched and shaking.
Jeremiah and McKayla looked at each other.
Finally, Jeremiah gave in and said, “Alright.”
Hearing this, Stephanie lowered her eyes a little and unclenched her fists.
“Thank you,” she said softly.
Jeremiah shook his head.
“Mutually beneficial things didn’t need thanks.”
Jeremiah understood that as long as Stephanie performed normally, there would definitely be no problem with her ability.
And the first livestream was also just a debut performance, the elimination system didn’t officially start until the second round, so Stephanie wouldn’t have any problem joining.
He just felt sorry for her.
Stephanie looked up and gave a little smile.
She was telling them she was fine.
But everyone there knew she had something going on.
Couldn’t hold on for long, Stephanie said, “Jeri, I might not be able to get my stage outfit ready or find a makeup artist myself like this. Can you help me?”

Jeremiah nodded. “This was part of the company’s job.”
“Could you go help me find it now?” she asked again.
Jeremiah didn’t know how to answer.
Stephanie looked at McKayla again.
“Kayla, I was a bit hungry, could you help me go buy something to eat?”
McKayla opened her mouth but didn’t know what to say, just looked at Stephanie sadly.
Stephanie smiled, looked at the two of them, and said, “Is that okay?”
There was already a bit of pleading in the voice.
The two looked at each other, then they both understood, so they agreed to Stephanie.
They walked out of the ward and closed the door.
After they left, it was quiet in the hospital room.
The smile on Stephanie’s face slowly faded, and the fake smile she put on slowly dropped.
The April weather felt a bit cold to her, so she pulled the covers back over herself.
It was really cold, so cold that Stephanie pulled the blanket over her head.
She couldn’t hold back her feelings anymore. She bit her fist until it bled and cried silently.
The tears just kept falling, like they would never stop.

Chapter39
Why was it that what she wanted to keep always slipped away?
Family, lover, the Shelton family, and… her child.
She couldn’t keep her.
She tried everything to hold on to all of it, but it was like sand slipping through her fingers–no matter how tightly she held on, it all disappeared in the end.
So powerless.
Stephanie put her hand on her stomach, and in the end, her hand formed a fist.
Still wasn’t strong enough.
She couldn’t stay by anyone’s side for long, couldn’t count on anyone to be her safe haven.
She had to work hard.
Career, she wanted to hold it in her hands.
