Chapter 118

Chapter 118
"The final Chapter"

The full moon shone down on us as we stood outside the cottage. The ground became whiter as the flower of white-perfumed blooms, the name of which I don't know, bloomed. And I felt as if I were dreaming as I watched Rafael come to life in front of me.
"Oh my God, I thought you were dead." Tears streamed down my cheeks. "Who was the man who was torched at the crime scene while wearing your watch?"
He held me in his arms and we were silent for a while, interrupted by Rafael Junior's whimpering in my arms.
"Hello, my son," he said, cuddling Rafael Junior. My tears will never stop falling. And as he was reassuring his son, he began to recall what had occurred on the day of the fire in the old house.
"On that particular day, Mea was agitated. I noticed she went to the back of the garage and drew gasoline from the car tank, transferring it into many bottles of fuel and carefully placing it inside the black bag. And that gave me a bad impression because of her wrath when she found out we were living on an island, "he explained.
He claimed that Mea became enraged at us and left him on the island after threatening to make our lives terrible. And he followed her discreetly, going to the old house. He spotted her in the woods, building an improvised bomb from a bottle of gasoline with ignited cloth that would explode when it hit the house's wall, and Carlo was helping her.
I couldn't believe it when I heard Carlo was assisting Mea in setting fire to the house while I was inside. It revealed that he was willing to kill me in retaliation for falling in love with Rafael.
"And whose burned corpse was discovered in the house? In addition to Carlo, there is another man in the house, "I asked. “And who exactly was that man?" I inquired. "What did he do in there to end up on fire?"
"He was a hired assassin hired by Mea. He was supposed to be the first to enter the house, potentially using a duplicated key Carlo had. And he was there to kill you. "
"What?"
"When Carlo and Mea left, Dave and I managed to enter." And we witnessed the man going upstairs with a gun, clearly intending to kill you. I grabbed him and dragged him down to the living room, where I successfully removed his gun. And Dave went upstairs to the connecting room between the brown room and the playroom. And he successfully helped you out of the building while I was trying to walk upstairs. We battled until I was lucky enough to get hold of the Gulf Club and bang it twice on the hired killer's head, and he collapsed on the floor motionless. I tried to drag him out of the house, but the fire was raging and the chandelier shattered into the man's body.
And I couldn't save him, and as I was about to leave, something occurred to me, and before exiting the raging fire; I removed my wristwatch and placed it on his wrist.
And I was correct in my assessment; the dead corpse was initially thought to be me, but DNA tests confirmed that the burnt corpse wasn't me and that I was missing. And Mea made a deal with the underworld and put a million dollars on your head. "
"And that's why Dave brought me away from the house?" I inquired.
"Yes, I told him to look after you. And I apologize for not doing it myself." He sighed.
"Where is Dave now?" I was concerned.
"Don't be concerned about him. He was performing a vital task for us. He is an advocate for me."
"What are we going to do now?"
"We'll have to stay here and wait for Dave's report," he said, looking at me.
"However, I witnessed your men killing the man who was chasing me." Who exactly are they? ”
"They are my military pals, and they will assist us in our fight against Mea and Carlo."
"But Carlo and Mea were imprisoned, weren't they?" How did they get a reward placed on my head? ”
"Carlo was well-connected in the underground." And he was now completely under Mea's command. It's only a phone call, and evil people will kill for money, "he sighed.
Rafael's presence made me feel relieved for the first time. My world changed quickly in my life, and I was disappointed in Carlos due to a shift in loyalty, but I do understand what drove him to commit such a heinous crime against me.
We were both exhausted from the long night. Rafael set up the bed room for the three of us after we finished eating. Rafael was given a crib, despite the fact that at his age, he didn't require one. And he was fast sleeping, as if he realized he needed to allow us time with his parents.
I took a bath and felt the pain all over my body. There were some bruises on my feet, and I then realized I had cut my elbow. It was the result of unending running and body slamming on the ground. The difficulties I had experienced many hours ago kept on replaying in my mind. It wasn't a joke being chased by killers with the life of your son in your hands.
When I came out of the restroom, Rafael was sitting on the couch. He gazed at me with longing in his eyes. He stood up and went to lift me and place me on the bed. He held me and kissed me on the forehead and on the lips, dominating everything about me, from my physicality to my emotions and soul. I adore this man, the man of my fantasies and my idol.
His lips soothed every ache in my body, pains, which were replaced by the ecstasy of fulfillment and the anguish of longing to be captured by his manhood.
"I love you," I muttered as we reached the pinnacle of making love. That was the first time I ever felt a longing for him.
And he responded to every movement of desire I showed him.
"I love you too," he whispered in my ears. "I've known you'd be a part of my life since the night I carried you out of the middle of the road. But fate sometimes makes people's lives turn around like a whirlwind before landing in the real happenings of life." He kissed me and said, "But as the saying goes, it's better late than never."
For the first time, we slept together in serenity and affection. We were just like any other couple living together with a son, a complete picture of a family.
The morning arrived with a bright future. When I awoke, Rafael Junior was no longer in his cot. Rafael Junior's cooing could be heard outside the house. He was having a good time with his chuckle, and I was having a good time as well. When I peeked out the open window, I noticed they were playing in the garden.
The scenario of a father and son playing together was heartwarming in its paternal connectivity.
This was not anything I expected to see, not even in my dreams, but what I witnessed was true. Rafael Senior and Rafael Junior were in the same garden.
Days went by, and we stayed on the island happily. We roamed around, making our own happy memories as a couple. But one afternoon, Rafael told me to cross the mainland to buy our needs and promised to come back in the afternoon, but he didn't come back.
I waited for him on the shore with Rafael Junior until sundown, but still no Rafael. I felt worried and sick for him.
The night came and went, but Rafael was still missing. After dinner, I planned to go to the mainland the next morning to look for him. I haven't had a good night's sleep. I dozed off at two a.m. and was awoken by Rafael Junior's chuckling. He was not hanging next to me. I dashed out the door and spotted Rafael and Dave.
"How are you, Cathy?" Dave asked with a smile.
I dashed over to Dave and gave him a friendly hug. "Thank you, Dave, for your help."
When I turned around, my heart leapt for joy at what I saw. My father and grandfather were among those present, all of whom were smiling at me.
"What's going on?"
Rafael knelt before me and opened an ancient ring box, revealing a lovely ring. And he asked me, "Will you marry me after all the difficulties are solved?"
The ring glittered in my eyes, and tears were streaming down my cheek. I was so happy and said, "Yes, yes, I do marry you."
Rafael kissed the ring on my finger before standing up and hugging me tightly. He then whispered, "I will never allow problems to separate us, never."
They all clapped their hands, and I was over the rainbow with the happiness I had in my heart.
I knew that was a fulfilled dream and I was blessed to experience that kind of happiness after so many storms I went through.
And I do believe that "behind the storm where the sunshine waiting for you."
I am Catherine Regner Morrow, and this is how my story ends.
