Chapter 49
“What’s the location where they have been hiding the jewels?”
Octavius’ words made Rhiannon stare at him for a long time before speaking.
“Why are you staring at me? You have been so anxious and doing everything to get the jewels. It's not that I am going to take and seek them,” Octavius added when he saw her frowning as she stared at her.
“She did tell me the location but am not sure whether it’s the right place or she is playing with me,” Rhiannon answered him as she shook her head.
“Then do you want to check it out?” Octavius asked as he wanted his wife to be happy and not always sad because of her family.
“Yeah,” Rhiannon said without glancing at him.
Seeing this, Octavius' smile froze as he knew that she was still mad at him. He had thought that since it had been a week, her anger had at least calmed down but now, he knew that he was wrong. This made him panic as he wondered what he should do to make her forgive him.
“Although the mother-daughter duo stole your jewels and some of mom’s stuff,” Octavius said as he stared at him.
Rhiannon was so shocked when she heard his words and glanced at him.
“Mom?” she asked in disbelief as she was shocked at how Octavius was addressing her mother.
“Yes, mom. Your mother is also my mother. My mother is your mother. Your family is my family and my family is your family. Have you forgotten that we are now married?” Octavius said softly with a smile on his face.
Rhiannon who was already stunned by his words was now stunned by his smile and found it beautiful.
She stared at him as she studied his face. She felt hot when she saw how handsome he was and how he was staring at him. She coughed before staring at the latter deep in his eyes.
“I know that you still don’t believe in our marriage or even think that it will work but I believe it will. I am sorry for what I did last time. I will never repeat it again,” he apologized sincerely but Rhiannon glanced at his words and found his words insincere.
“You don’t seem sincere enough. How can I forgive you?” she asked with a scoff before turning around and ignoring him.
Hearing her words, Octavius was confused as he didn’t know where she had said that. The chauffeur and his personal assistant who were in the front seat heard their madam’s words and saw their boss’s confused look through the front view mirror.
They wanted to laugh at him but at the same time, they were afraid of him since the latter was always cold to everyone and soft to his family, Rhiannon wasn’t exceptional. They chuckled when they saw his confused look and remembered how their boss thought he wouldn’t start liking and falling in love with their madam.
Both Rhiannon and Octavius heard their chuckle but Rhiannon didn’t pay attention to them as she had a lot of things in her head.
Octavius on the other hand was so angry as he knew that they were laughing at him.
When they met with his cold and angry eyes in the front view mirror, they shuddered and opened their eyes asking Octavius to scoff at their cowardliness as he wondered why they dared to laugh at him if they couldn’t even meet his eyes.
‘You know you did something wrong. Yet you pretend to be innocent?” Octavius asked himself as he stared at back of the back of their heads coldly.
Nonetheless, he stopped paying attention and threw them back of his mind as he claimed he would teach them a lesson when they arrived home.
Even though he didn’t say anything, his cold gaze had said everything, and the two men a the front understood him more than the others whom he worked with. They were now even afraid of taking their young master at home as they knew they would definitely be punished.
“As I was saying before you interrupted me, you intended to take the mother and daughter to the police so as they can reveal the whereabouts of jewels. Now that you know where they are, would you drop their charges?” Octavius asked as he knew that Rhiannon must have used that as a bargaining chip since the two wanted to get out of prison.
Rhiannon shook her head and said, “Why should I drop the charges? Although I might eventually drop them, it won’t be so fast as I want to see them suffer.”
Her words didn’t seem cold but they all felt that their atmosphere had turned cold as she spoke those words.
Octavius stared at his wife as he didn’t understand what was going on in her head. Even without being told, he knew that she still cared for her father thus he had thought that she would at least drop them for the man’s sake but now, he started doubting what he knew and at the same time wondered whether something new had happened.
Nonetheless, he didn’t ask her that as he didn’t want her to feel that he was invading her privacy.
“Stop staring at me as if I have a hole in my head. If you have a question ask stop staring at me. I am not an artifact that you can admire while looking at me,” Rhiannon said causing Octavius to be speechless while the two at the front laughed before they realized what they had done and shut their mouths.
She heard before he had the chance to speak to his men or reply to his wife.
“We had a deal with Kaylee. I didn’t expect her to be so afraid. Hahaha. Just thinking of her terrified look makes me happy. I am sure that I will even have a good sleep tonight. Hahaha,” Rhiannon said as she laughed.
The men in the car were shocked and at the same time in awe at her laughter. They had never heard her laugh thus they thought that she was a cold person but now.
Just as they had convinced themselves that she wasn’t cold, they recalled what Rhiannon’s exact words were and felt a chill on their spine.
“I never knew that she would be so afraid. More afraid than she is of staying in prison. I am starting to think that I made a mistake in making sure that she is arrested. But it doesn’t matter, at least I know what she is really afraid of. Also, I am sure that from today, she will be so fearful of me,” Rhiannon said before laughing coldly causing the men to remain silent.
Octavius' eyes were on her throughout. He knew that she hated Kaylee and her mother but never expected it to be so much as he thought she hated them because they ruined her family but now he didn’t need to be told by anyone that the latter hated them more because of something else. He was very curious about what it was but he didn’t dare ask as everyone had their own secret.
“Are we going home or going to get the jewels?” Octavius asked after some time as he remembered that they had not told the driver the directions.
“Let’s get the jewels first as I am afraid that Kaylee would change her mind and send someone to take and hide them once more. She is just afraid for the time being but it is unknown whether she will always be afraid and stop causing trouble for me,” Rhiannon said after giving it a thought.
Octavius nodded his head. “The directions.”
Rhiannon turned and glanced at him before she remembered that she had not yet told them the directions. She faceslapped herself causing Octavius to panic.
“You! Why are you slapping yourself? What if you hurt yourself?” he asked in panic making Rhiannon speechless.
“Who said that I have slapped myself? Indeed I have faceslapped myself but not slapped myself on the cheek. How can one be slapped on her forehead?” she asked as she found Octavius a little stupid and at the same time cute while looking at his worried and panicking face.
She wanted to tease him but was afraid that the latter would take advantage of that and think that she had forgiven him for what he did and think she was too easy to please and would make the same mistake over and over again.
She gave the directions as she stared out of the window.
‘You have to keep jewels well.”
“But why Mom? Can’t you give them to Dad to keep them safe for you?” a little girl asked her mother who was lying on the bed.
The fragile woman shook her head before she started coughing.
Seeing this, the little girl started to panic as she thought she was the one who made her mother sick with her question and tears started falling.
“I am sorry Mom, I am the reason as to why you are so sick. Let me get you a glass of water so that you can feel well,” the little girl said before running to the other side and pouring some water for her mother.
The woman glanced at her daughter and tears started flowing as she felt that the world wasn’t fair.
“I am fine my dear child. It wasn’t your fault. I would have died anyway. I always knew that I would die but someone sped up the process. Don’t cry and blame yourself. Wipe your tears and stop crying. Mother hates seeing you cry.”
The woman said after drinking the water.
“Mother, don’t worry. I will never cry again. That’s a promise. Also, I will keep the jewels safe. But what's the big deal about them?” the little girl asked as her big eyes stared at her mother curiously.
The woman lifted her other hand that wasn’t holding the box and patted her daughter’s head.
“A pair of jewels are gifts from my parents. While the other,” the woman fell silent as she didn’t know how to tell her daughter.
“Mother, why are you quiet suddenly? You were telling me about the other necklace and ring origin,” the little girl asked after waiting for her mother’s explanation but the woman was quiet.
Hearing her daughter’s words, the woman fell out of the daze and gave her daughter a weak smile.
“These. As I said, these are mine, while the others... okay, they are also mine but make sure that no one ever sees this ring. Keep it very safe with you but when you are in danger, you can tap on it and something will happen. You can only do this three times. The fourth time, you will be in danger.”
“Mother, you are confusing me. Why won’t I be in danger if I use the ring the first three times but will be in the fourth? Also, didn’t you say that it would keep me safe? Why would it bring danger to me also?” the little girl was confused as she stared at her mother for her explanation.
“Dear. When you use it the first time, it will alarm the enemy but they won’t know where you are if you use it three times, they will find your location. When you use it the fourth time, you will be rescued from what you wanted it to rescue you but after that, your life would change. For that, you will need to call the strings of numbers behind it. And I will repeat don’t call the number if you aren’t in danger,”
The woman emphasized.
Although the little girl didn’t understand why her mother was saying that, she nodded her head and promised her mother.
“What about the necklace mother?” the little girl asked as she stared at the necklace.
“This one is kind of special. It was made by someone special to both of us. This is your family’s heirloom,” the woman said before starting to cough again.
“But I heard that heirlooms are given to the heiress and heirs. And it is the father’s side that gives them their bloodline,” the little girl said as she had heard it from the older girls during a banquet.
“Child, don’t ask a lot of questions. Keep it safe and make sure that your father doesn’t know about it! And if he does, make sure to tell him that all the jewels here are my family’s heirloom.”
Tears started flowing down Rhiannon as she remembered what happened on the even her mother died.
To her, those jewels were very special to her. With them, she felt close to her mother and didn’t care about their origin ever again. As long they were given to her by her mother, the origin was her mother.
She stared at the ring that was made as a pendant on the necklace.
She had only used the ring once and because of it, she was still alive.
